I was a bit stuck, trying to decide which one of the five tracks to cover first. I wound up picking this one since certain parts of the MIDI sort of reminded me of some old song ideas that I had a very, very long time ago.
The song's structure remains largely the same, aside from the new extended solo section in the 2nd half. I also really enjoyed making up new leads for this track too!
I decided to throw in some fast and simple trem-picked leads, since it just felt right. The original lead/riff melody afterwards is mostly faithful. I think I may've played certain parts slightly different from the MIDI, but I couldn't help it, I was vibing and rockin'! Then after that, just some simple jamming out, since I really loved this section of the original MIDI. Nice chugga-chugga action going on with the rhythm guitar, and the organ laying down those sustained chords.
Speaking of the organ, it's always fun whenever I get to goof around with organ sounds. I actually wound up layering together three of my favorite organ sounds. It mainly consists of two synthy church-sounding organs. Then the 3rd was a good 'ol hammond-style organ panned all the way over to the right. This particular organ is rather subtle by itself, but I think it helped complete the sound I was wanting for the organs here.
I had another hammond organ part that played along with the bass guitar's parts, but an octave higher. I distorted it a little, and had it panning from left to right. It's subtle and a bit percussive, but it first kicks in when the drums come back in in the middle of the track.
Also, for the first time in probably years, I've got some claps going on in this cover! The original MIDI had used claps, so I figured I'd see how some clap samples would sound here. I also decided to have them alternate from side to side, just to spice things up a little.
I also threw in some choir parts for dramatic effect during the first half. You can't have a pipe organ without also having some choirs in the mix too!
For funsies, we've also got a quiet DAR scream in the beginning. The Vincent Price clip that I sampled a couple years back also makes its return! Layered together two of them, one pitched an octave down, and the other an octave up. Threw some effects on to it and quietly mixed it in at the end before the song restarts.
Something that I had changed was swapping out the harp at the end for a rhodes electric piano. I tried some harp sounds, but I wound up really liking how the rhodes sounded with some reverb thrown in.
This also may just be me, but for some reason, I feel like I could totally imagine this cover being an epic boss theme for some JRPG. I can just imagine a party knockin' the crud outta some big bad dungeon-boss with this playing in the background.

Honestly, it doesn't feel like it was all that long ago...
So just as the TNT Marathon back then had started with "Sadistic", so too does this one! Of course, I think it'll go without saying what's in store for us at the end of this marathon!
It's great getting to come back to a different interpretation of Sadistic, quite nostalgic really! I've played and covered this one pretty straight, since there wasn't much room for me to "go off script" so to speak. I had a few small moments, but aside from those, I faithfully stuck to the original MIDI.
Anyhow, I hope you all enjoy the debut of the TNT MIDI Pack Marathon, and hope you all are ready for the rest of the ride! ~DAR

Ah, another old release remade and brought forward into modern times! As much as I really loved SoM and RISEN, New Genesis will always be my favorite of the three early "Stratocaster" era of my releases.
This was also the first of my works that was built around a story from the start. I've also always been very proud of the album art that I made for this one too. Not only is having the big 'ol cosmic and ethereal snake pretty kickass, but it's also very fitting for the story of the album. Obviously said snake is the "Ouroboros", representing infinity, and the cycle of life and death. However rather than have it eating its own tail, it's left open-ended. Just as the ending of the album's story is left open-ended as to what the fate of humanity is by the conclusion.
The symbol residing within the serpent may also probably look familiar as well. It is the "World Triad" symbol. I wound up combining some of the interpreted meanings of this ancient symbol from both its use as a Chinese symbol, its use in Gnosticism, as well as the Shinto version of it, "Mitsu tomoe". Long story short is that this is supposed to represent the spirit of humanity itself, swirling and going about with its own cycle.
So in relation to the album, we have the spirit of humanity itself trapped within a vicious cycle. With the small hope and opening of potentially escaping this "infinity". New Genesis follows the story of an ancient human civilization on the brink of destruction. They take to the stars, and after much time and hardship, humanity manages to begin anew. But, as the civilization reaches its peak once more, it once again faces the threat of complete annihilation.
But yeah, that's the deeper meaning and backstory behind the album art!

A bittersweet ending to the story of New Genesis, as human civilization continues its cycle of destruction and rebirth. Whether they "End This Cycle" and escape it or not is left ambiguous!
So, right away the new addition to this song is the extended intro. After the energy from Nations Collide, I really wanted to have a little more downtime and buildup here for this track. Also, I've always been very fond of the clean guitars during the intro. This is because this part was another one of my riffs that I would often play when warming up. I don't know how old the part is, but I'd almost bet that its as old as the "Sky" riff, or older!
I was very tempted to throw in the acoustic for this section, but I decided not to. Mainly because I really liked how mellow everything sounded. I also left out the "moving static" sound since I felt like it made things more dramatic when the drums start thumping away.
However, to spice things up a bit, I created a new piano part that accompanies the chorused guitar part. I really loved how both of these parts worked together, along with feeding into my spacey reverb/delay channel too!
Aside from this extended intro, the song remain structurally the same as its original counterpart. Once again I've kept the original lead melody over on the right, and the new harmonized leads on the left. The original lead melody is mostly the same, but I did change it a little in a few places just to keep things interesting.
Also, a bit of a funny story, but I can still remember when I was making the drum parts back in 2015. I had just finished making Nations Collide back then, and I had really liked the beat that I had going with the toms. So when it came to this song, I was like "Toms are fun, I want more of that!" and thus we wound up having the cool pounding beat that we have now!
Another little addition I made was adding some synth-strings to spice things up a little. I really feel like they add this kind of majestic quality to the track.
Something that I did keep from the original was the fade-out. While I have been usually making an effort not to rely on fade-outs, I think it works nicely here for this closing track.

In some ways, this track is pretty much the big climax of this album, while "End This Cycle" makes for a nice little encore before closing things out.
I've kept the song structure exactly the same as the original 2015 version. However, just like the rest of these remake tracks, Nations Collide gets a lot of added little goodies thrown into the mix (pun intended).
The 7-string gets to work harmony duty for the leads playing on the left side (Ibanez working the right-side leads). Even some of my old lead recordings on the Strat were able to be reused and blended nicely into the mix as well.
I also quietly threw in some synth-strings just to add a little extra "flavor" to the track.
Now, something that is quite different from the original would be the clean section towards the middle of the song. I was going to go with clean electric guitar, but I just couldn't get the right tone. I was a bit stumped for a bit, then I started playing with the idea of doing it on the acoustic. I quickly fell in love with this rendition of this section of the track!
I also threw in a new harmony part during this section too, which I think really gives this part a little something extra. However, the acoustic by itself still felt like it was missing something... So I went and layered in some old and new clean Strat recordings. I also went and revisited the project file for my cover of "Painful Dreams" from D64D2. Reason for this was to figure out what I did for the clean/chorused guitars there in that track.
After getting the right chorus slapped on to that sucker, I was getting closer to what I wanted after blending it with the acoustic guitars. From there, I went and took the lead and harmony melodies and had the MIDIs for those render out some electric piano tracks. Then I decided to get crazy (on accident) with reverb on these two electric piano clips. So in the signal-chain, I had the good 'ol Vallhalla Supermassive doing its thing. However, I didn't realize until later that it sounded extra dreamy/spacey because that mixer track was ALSO feeding into my aux/Reverb-send track, which had ANOTHER Supermassive in its chain.
Now with the main bulk of that section done, I threw in a couple of bass synths to thicken things up further during this section.
On the topic of reverbs, I decided to go with something different for my "Drum Reverb SEND" aux-channel. My usual reverb that I've been using so far on this remake album just didn't sound quite right for this track. It took me a little bit, but I finally found something that sat just right for the mix! I also tweaked some other mix-related things for the drums too. Fiddled with the send-levels for certain elements, and also messed with the toms a bit.
Overall, I'm really happy with how this turned out! Hope you all also enjoy this remake as well. Up next, we wrap up NEW GENESIS as the curtain falls with "End This Cycle". Hope you guys look forward to it! ~DAR

Absolutely jazzed about how this one turned out! I was honestly a little worried about this one, since for a long time now, I've felt like this one was probably the weakest track from the original album.
I was still quite fond of it though because to this day, this is STILL the only track I've ever done that makes use of a turntable (a VST plugin of course, not a real one!). Its been so long ago, I don't actually remember which synth I had used for the original sample. I almost wonder if it was a patch from my Casio keyboard! In any case, fortunately I still had the original turntable sample that I had recorded back then.
Every time I hear that turntable sample that I recorded, I always have a chuckle. I remember feeling so goofy back then, pretending to be one of those cool, hip DJ's doing their thing. However in reality, I was there holding my mouse a certain way and clicking and moving it back and forth to get the sound that I needed.
I also fixed the sample a bit. The original had popping every once in a while. Back then, I was still too green and naive, and didn't know to have quick fades at the start and end of the sample. So back 10 years ago, when I was being DJ superstar over there with the mouse, every time the sample hit the loop point, it popped! I kept the pops in back then since I thought it'd be quirky and "lo-fi".
Aside from that, I also threw some saturation on to the sample to give it a little added sheen. Also to try and somewhat restore some of the really high frequencies that were lost, since the original sample was saved as an OGG (yes, yes, BAD! I know...).
Thinking about it now, I really ought to try experimenting with that turntable plugin again in the future (its nothin' fancy, just FL Studio's "Fruity Scratcher"). Its just so niche that I've never had a good opportunity to goof around with it except for this one song!
Anyways, back then, I just wanted this to be a piano and synth song. However, as I listened to it, especially now, I just really felt like something was missing.
So, on a whim, I recorded a simple (but nice) little rhythm guitar part and extended the 2nd third of the song. From there, it was time for noodling on leads! Speaking of which, the Strat gets its chance to sing on leads finally on this remake album! The Ibanez didn't quite have the right tone, and my 7-String was close, but not quite there. Plugged in the Strat and flipped to the bridge and middle pickup position and I was happy!
I wound up adding some synth strings as well as some plucky synths and pizzicato strings too. Added quite a few small little things to really liven up the song. After all, this track is supposed to be this grand and beautiful new beginning!
Also, something that I did for "Upon The Wishing Star", and once again for this song, is the use of automating the stereo-separation dial. I used to do this little trick a lot more back then, but I wound up stopping this since I was worried about potential phasing issues. Now that I know what I'm doing (at least certainly way more than I did a decade ago), I think this little trick may finally come back into my arsenal of regular mixing-techniques.
What's basically going on is that I decrease the stereo-separation at points to kind of pull the stereo image in towards the center. Not complete mono, but enough to lose a decent amount of width. Then when I bring the separation back to normal, it can really accent the impact for when a part hits.

I absolutely loved the original and didn't want to change or stray too far from it. I only changed a few notes and added some flair for the lead guitar part, just to spice things up a little. I also threw in and blended some synth-strings as well.
My bass guitar got to sit this one out, since I decided to use a combination of three synth-basses. One of these synth-basses being the original I had used back then! I did throw a distortion effect on to it, just for a little more added grit.
The Strat got to reprise its role for the clean parts. The original's clean part was brighter-sounding, whereas for this, I wanted a more mellow tone. So I opted to record on the neck pickup, as opposed to the bridge+mid pickup position.
Speaking of the clean parts, they're very similar to the clean parts that I did for "Change Destiny". I can't remember for certain, but I'm fairly sure that back then I had wanted to capture that hopeful and wishful mood. So that had led to me wanting to revisit that guitar part and changing it up a little for this song.
Originally, this song had started out on the piano. That first iteration would later become what is now the new opener for the album, "Exodus to the Stars". So that one and this one are pretty much sister songs.
I also decided to try something a little different for the pianos. Nothing too fancy, but I took two pianos and blended them together, and then I split the left and right hand parts. Left hand parts panned over to the left, and the right over to the right. I normally don't have to manually pan the piano, but I think it worked out nicely here!
Also, once again the 7-string's tone gets to shine on the leads! I'm especially happy with how the leads in the middle part of the song turned out. Always really loved the little "call and answer" thing I did there, with one part playing on the left, followed by a part on the right, and back and forth. Its like the guitars are talking to each other! I really love how the 7-string reacts to the little pinch-harmonics that I do to accent my playing at times.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy the song! Only three more to go until this iteration of "NEW GENESIS" is complete! ~DAR

Once again, I've come up with some new harmony leads noodling around over on the left side, while the original melody occupies the right side. The right-side leads are mostly the same, but I did wind up changing them in a few parts.
Also, with the exception of the outro riff being done with my Ibanez, the rest of the leads were all done on the 7-string! I really quite like the neck-pickup on this thing. It just had the right sound and tone for this track. My Ibanez tends to get rather harsh and bright when playing the sort of leads that I have here in this song. The Strat was out of the question as well, since its brighter. Wasn't an issue back then with the original recording, since I had a rather different signal-chain for my tone.
Anyhow, after having my fill of noodling around with these lead parts, I couldn't help but feel like something was missing. Naturally, I started reaching for string sections and stuff to do the trick. After writing and hearing the part in MIDI, I later found out that my usual strings just didn't have the right texture that I was looking for.
Got a bit stuck at this point, trying to find something that sat well in the mix. Eventually, I came upon this sort of synth organ sound. I wasn't sure about it at first, since it sounded a little cheesy. However, I decided to goof around with it, and ran it through some distortion and some phaser. To my surprise, that was all it needed to sit nicely with everything. Really like this new part, since I feel like it gives this added energy to the track.
Teaming up with this synth is a humble (and subtle) little electric piano part that quietly plays slightly off to the right side. Blended pretty nicely with the synth.
The switch/clicking sound in the beginning (and in the outro) is none other than my trusty little Pod 2.0. I remember feeling really cheeky back then when I decided to stick my microphone up next to the on/off switch. Unfortunately the original sample seems to have been lost to time! For whatever reason, I never saved the sample in the same folder as the guitar stuff. However, since its just a simple little bit, I wound up sampling the part directly from the original. I could have just recorded a new click, but I just really wanted it to be the same sound from the previous iteration of this song... that and I really didn't feel like hooking up the mic and getting the right placement to get the right kind of click sound from the power switch.
On the topic of old samples, I wound up throwing in one of the original recordings with my Stratocaster. It plays alongside my Ibanez during the little bridge part that happens before the 2nd chorus.
Really happy with how this remake turned out! I'm excited for the remake of "Upon The Wishing Star" up next. Hope you all look forward to it as well! ~DAR

I've maintained the original structure, though I did extend the outro solo by another 20 seconds. Much fun noodling was had with all the new bits that I've added to this song!
Main leads are slightly different in a few brief parts, but its mostly the same as it was originally. The leads on the left-side are some brand-new harmony parts that I noodled into existence.
The good 'ol phaser that I used recently in "Distant Transmission" returns once more! Nothing too crazy, just had enough of it to give the leads this sort of "wah" sound at times.
I also tossed in some strings/synths to further fill-out the mix, and to give the song a little something extra.

I just couldn't resist the urge to revisit this track. I figured this would serve as a decent example of what a redux of pre-2018 DAR-covers could sound like if done nowadays.
As always, I tried sticking as close as I could to the original. However, as per request from Nuru, I also threw in some of my original motifs that I had in my cover from the TNT marathon. Though, even if he had not asked, I think I would've totally still done it anyways!
I also decided to add in the conga drums, triangle, and tambourine into the 2nd half, since I felt it was fitting. I wanted to save the actual drum kit and ride cymbals for when the overdriven guitars come in.
I slightly tweaked a few of the drum parts, mainly having a few more double-kick bits and more toms at times.
Lastly, I extended the final chorus a little bit.
Overall, I'm really happy with how this cover turned out. The original by Leo Sieben was already a classic, but KevinHEZ's take on the composition turned it into a near 8-minute epic. Nice slow-burn leading into explosive energy when the choruses strike!

So the structure of this one has remained pretty much in tact. Just has a slightly longer fade-out at the end.
However, I've decided to add quite a bit to what I had originally written all those years ago. Aside from changing a note or two, the leads stay true to the original. Those leads hang out over on the right side, and then over on the left, I created some all-new harmonized leads.
Also, I've rediscovered an old thing that I used to do for clean guitar parts. Back then, I would basically run my Strat cleanly through a signal-chain without the amp-sim. I think I still used a cab-IR back then for that though. This time around, I kept my power-amp sim enabled in the chain. Its been so long since I've recorded and processed cleans like this, that I had kind of forgotten about it. I had eventually gotten so used to thinking that I absolutely needed an amp-head somewhere in the signal-chain.
Really jazzed about having the Strat reprising a role here in this track. I also got to use a phaser effect that I've been itching to use in something for a while now. Now that I think of it, I don't think I've gotten a chance to use this specific plugin until this very track. Pairing the phaser with a touch of chorus sounds absolutely wonderful!
On the topic of clean things, oh man, the acoustic bit! So, I was feeling like the middle of the song was lacking something. I wanted to add something, but I felt like adding another clean electric guitar wouldn't have been interesting enough. Then I started thinking about how I used my acoustic in the new opener, "Exodus to the Stars", and I figured the acoustic would probably fit in nicely here for Transmission.
Now, I know I usually say this every time I record my acoustic, but I think this is probably the best I've gotten it to sound! Tried a slightly different position for the mic and it worked out quite nicely.
A last minute addition that I had made was adding a bass synth to really fill-out the low-end at certain times. Playing my bass guitar was fine, but it needed something a bit extra. I went and looked at the stuff I had done for that JADED Doom cover that I released recently. Grabbed one of the synths I used in there and had it pair up with my bass guitar.
I also tried something different with the drums, specifically the toms. I decided to layer my synthwave toms with my usual toms. The synthwave ones have a bit more snap and "sizzle" to them. I think they get on quite well with one another, especially when they're both going to the same gated reverb and overall drum reverb aux channels. Moving forward, I think this just might become a staple in my drum mixes!
Lastly, a really small thing I did was add a couple of synths during the chorus/refrain bits. One was just a good 'ol rhodes electric piano to help the main synth poke through the wall of guitars. The other synth part was a real simple bit that I subtly blended into the rhythm guitars.
Anyways, once more, I'm really happy with how this remake went! Hope you all enjoy the song and look forward to the next one. "Rocket Racer" is gonna be fun \m/! ~DAR

Also, fun fact about the backstory on how the name of this song came to be. Back when everybody was freaking out about the Mayan calendar and 2012 stuff, the world was supposed to end on the Winter Solstice. So, fast forward to late 2014 when I started writing all the jams for New Genesis. I needed a cool name for some kind of "end of the world" sort of song. I thought back to all that stuff from a few years prior, and thought "huh, 'Final Solstice' sounds like an awesome title for a song!" and so that's how that happened.
Now despite it being an "end of the world" song, its rather hopeful and upbeat. Reason for that being is this song is supposed to represent the undying human spirit and mankind's ability to power through and rise back up from anything.
Anyhow album lore/story stuff aside, time to talk about the mix!
The leads got a massive overhaul. I cooked up some new harmony parts and even some new main leads as well. My noodling game is much stronger now than what it was back then when I had made the original.
Also really love the flanger effect that I got on the intro riff.
Rhythm guitar has stayed the same, as did the bass. Although, maybe I threw in some some octave notes for the bass, since back then before I had my bass, I just had the bass VSTi playing only the root note.
The piano is still doing the same thing too, adding a nice twinkle to the mix.
The strings are completely new though! As I was getting further along in the recording process, I REALLY wanted something to fill this gap in the mix. Of course, strings make everything sound prettier and epic \m/! Really love how the strings accompany the jam.
Structure is the same, though I DID extend the outro to throw in one last guitar solo. I also thought about having this one fade out, like I did with the original. However, I actually like how I have it end suddenly here, with the reverb-tail fading out. I think it'll make for a great set up into the much slower "Distant Transmission" up next in the album.
Once more, another remade track that sounds the way that I've always wanted it to be!

I was actually a bit worried when I sat down to work on this one. With how much I love "Exodus to the Stars" being the new opener, I feel like "Collision Course" would now be overshadowed by it.
I wound up changing up the leads a little bit from the original, mainly altering the "main riff" bit that plays during the chorus. Wanted to have more variation compared to the original, so the main riff gets to live in the intro/verse. Then I just absolutely had to throw in the harmonized leads that I was hearing in my head.
Really love how the two leads sing together!
I'm also really happy with the drums. I wound up taking some of the things that I tried out on Alt's song from the other day, and applied some of them to the drum mix here. Such as layering and blending a few more snares together, and a healthy dose of reverb on the drum reverb send/aux channel.
I also decided to sidechain my snare to the overhead drum mics. Got like a couple of decibels of gain reduction. Hardly noticeable, but I think it certainly helps with freeing up small bits of headroom in the mix.
On the topic of drums and percussion, I decided to throw in some like metallic percussion/hits during the verses, since I thought they sounded cool.
Also for funsies, I went and threw in a piano and turned it down and blended it into the mix during the chorus/refrain bits.
Once again, I'm just so jazzed about how great this sounds, compared to where I was with the original nearly a decade ago!
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy the song! I can't wait to see how the next track, "Final Solstice" is going to turn out. With how things are shaping up so far, that one's going to be wild! ~DAR

I wound up tweaking and changing some things from the original MIDI. I threw in a lot of toms here and there to sound more epic, and also tweaked the crash cymbals a bit in some places.
The original had the guitars only playing the root notes and the octave together. On a whim, I decided to record another rhythm part to stick down the center of the mix. This new part is basically playing the fifths, to complete the power-chord.
Also got some new DAR-scream samples from a test/personal cover that I did here like a month or so ago. Think it made for a good brutal fit for this track!
I also had fun goofing around a little with my synths here. My bass got to sit this one out as I opted for using a bass synth to handle the low-end.
I changed up the last bit of the song and had decided to noodle around a bit instead. After noodling, I also recorded a harmony part to go along with these new leads.
As for interesting stuff mix-wise, I messed around with my Drum reverb send/aux track. Quite like the way I got the drums to sound in here!
Had a good feeling that this one would be an absolute banger when Alt had sent it my way. It reminded me a lot of Evilution's "Smells Like Burning Corpse". That and this also scratches the RED PLANET itch that I've been having for a long time now. Red Planet is gonna be great whenever I can finally get around to producing new songs for it again!
Also, fun fact, all the guitar parts were recorded with the new 7-string! Judging from this cover, I'd say this wonderful new addition to my toolset can certainly hold its own in a mix!

Shoutout to Nuru for bringing this track and WAD to my attention! I have a soft spot for really pretty tracks and if I hear them at the right time, I'll impulsively decide to try my hand at covering it!
I wish I hadn't forgotten to write up my thoughts shortly after I finished recording and mixing this a couple months back.
I wound up staying very close to the original though, and had a lot of fun playing around with my synths and layering them. This song just has such a beautiful texture to it, even in its MIDI form! Which made it an absolute joy to produce for here.
I diiiid wind up adding some guitars though. Nothing crazy though, I didn't want the guitars to take away from anything. Just some simple power chords to dogpile on to the synth layer stack going on! Really satisfying to me when they first hit.
Also, as soon as I heard the square-lead part, I KNEW I had to do it on lead guitar! I didn't want to do all of it on the guitar though, as I really liked the feel and vibe that the synth had. When that lead synth hits for the first time, its just simply magical! Then for the final section of that part, that's what I decided to do on guitar. I also threw in some whammy bar action for some tasty detuning on some of those sustained notes!
Also if I remember right, I think I wound up using some of my mixer track setup for how I was planning on doing things for the "DREAM" album. Hell, if anything, covering this song is going to be a MASSIVE influence on how I'm going to approach that album whenever I have the time to get back to it!

Back then I had cut this song from the album because it was just a more energetic and rockin' variant of "Upon the Wishing Star". At the time, I thought that it'd be redundant to have a track that used the same motif as another... 'twas a silly thought!.. Actually, now that I think of it, THIS song was what would eventually evolve into Wishing Star.
For so long now, this poor track has been idling away in the depths of the "eternal demos" folder. I planned to eventually use it as an opener for some future album, but never found the right opportunity to place it. Now that I'm revisiting this album, I figured that maybe it should've been the opening track all along (sorry Collision Course)!
This one really is a mix of old-DAR meeting new-DAR. The original didn't have the acoustic part, it also only had one lead part.
After recording the piano part to MIDI, I was quite happy with my recreation of the piano and strings. However, it was as if my acoustic in the corner of the room was saying "hey, hey play me!". Decided to follow through on this whim and started noodling around. Almost right away, I just pulled the acoustic part from out of nowhere and was like "okay, yeah, the acoustic is going to be in the song!". Also, I swear, I feel like I've been able to get some very nice acoustic recordings as of late! I used to always worry about how things would translate, due to mic placement and stuff. I decided to try placing the microphone more in front of my, and a little further back than what I normally do. Very happy with how these double-tracked acoustic parts came out!
On the topic of rhythm stuff, I actually did something that I haven't tried doing since back in the early days of experimenting with recording and mixing: QUAD-TRACKED guitars. Normally I've always double-tracked my guitars, one panned hard left, and the other hard right. This time, we've got two on each side! I pretty much layered together my new 7-string and blended it with my Ibanez. Quite happy with how well these two get along with one another when both pulling rhythm duty at the same time!
Leads were fun too. I actually forgot how to play this since its been nearly a decade ago since I did the original demo. So, wanting instant gratification, I began noodling alongside the old-DAR leads. Eventually I went and relearned what I had originally played back then, but I also decided to record the new noodling. So we've got the lead guitars having a duet together.
I also decided to throw in a reversed and slowed bit from the piano recording, since the original had just started with the opening chord back then. Other than that, I did a lot of small little "music producer" things. Throwing in various little "impact" hits and other little sounds for dramatic effect. I also blended some harps with the piano in the beginning. Made for just the right texture for me!
This one's a real pretty one, like a "wave your lighters" kind of pretty... but then we get in halfway, and the slow waves turn into rockin' fist pumping!
Just as I've said with the previous remake tracks I've done so far, I am SO jazzed about how things are sounding! Going from listening to the original, and seeing the absolute glow-up that it has now with this current version... things are looking great for the rest of the remake tracks!

I had originally thought about trying to record some guitars for this one, but as I set up my layers, I decided to let the guitars sit this one out. Really like the texture and feel I was able to get here.
I particularly loved how the Moog-like synth sound I used for the bass turned out!
Also in keeping with the tradition of previous marathons, the times in the intermission screen are based on all the overall video runtime of this marathon. Then the level clear time is of course based on the length of this cover! PAR time is the length of the original MIDI.

Thank you all so much for your patience, and for all the kind comments and support over these years! As per tradition, let's fondly look back at all the videos and their respective comments! Also apologies if I missed anyone, I tried my best to try and get everybody in here.
There's quite a lot going on in this one. I did wind up changing the acoustic part a bit, but maintained the original bit via some pizzicato strings. Also threw in some choir on top of the string section, which kinda gave me some E1M8 vibes. Thus, I couldn't resist the urge to throw in E1M8's bends, since it just felt so right here.
I also got to record my actual violin for the first time in a couple of years (or however long ago its been since I did MAP03 from JPCP). I was eyeballing the MIDI and thought, "Huh, I think I could probably try and play that..."
Things were sounding really rough though, since I haven't had the time to pick up and practice the violin since the last time it made an appearance here on the channel. However, after being stubborn as hell about wanting an actual violin recorded, I eventually got a take recorded.
I was prepared to scrap it since I wasn't too sure of the tone, microphone placement, as well as my performance. That and it was during the evening of July 4th, so fireworks and firecrackers were all popping off. To my surprise though, everything turned out alright! I was very happy that all the time I had spent trying to play that bit was worth it in the end.
Really liked this part since it felt like an old west, cowboy DoomGuy riding off into the sunset. Rather fitting for where we're at in the marathon! Wanting to lean in on this vibe, I threw in some trumpets and even an accordion to accompany the violin.
Doing all this didn't come without a price to pay though, I wound up injuring my elbow and wrist a bit. Totally poor posture and improper technique on my part! Should've been more careful about that... So I was pretty much out of commission the next day (recording-wise), took a couple of aspirins and went about my usual business.
After a day of rest, I had to very carefully record the leads, since my wrist was still a bit sore. Was worried that my noodling and lead work would suffer from feelin handicapped with my wrist. Thankfully, I was able to noodle to my heart's content, without aggravating any of the prior day's soreness!
That aside, the new shiny toy of darkness (man, this 7-string is SO black), got to shine not only in the expected chugga-chugga duties, but I quite enjoyed the clean tone I got out of it! I just sort of started playing something, and then came up with a harmonized part to throw over on to the opposite side of the stereo field.
Also, I was a bit worried about how my acoustic would sound, since I wasn't too confident in my mic placement. But just like the violin, I was pleasantly surprised when I started mixing the double-tracked takes I did for the acoustic!

So first thing's first, I finally pulled the trigger and got a very nice and affordable 7-string guitar that I've been eyeballing for at least 3 years now. Got to use it right away for the rhythm, chugga-chugga stuff going on here in this cover!
Now with that said, man, there's a lot packed into this 2-minute track! It felt very nostalgic for me because it's been like forever ago when I covered E2M4 & E2M8 from DOOM 1. Wonderful mashup by Bucket, and oh boy, the leads! I've been looking forward to this one. Its also been a long time since I've gotten to do some really "rock 'n roll" sounding leads. I think the last time was a few years back when I did that Banzai Run medley.
We've got synths, down-tuned chugga-chugga rhythm guitar, choirs and orchestra, rock n' roll leads, and I even decided to throw in an organ during the middle of the track. I just kept hearing that rock organ in my head during that solo. Just felt nice and right to me since it boosts up that rockin' and funky vibe going on there!
I opted for choirs during the E2M4 part, mainly to stick closer to that, and also because I brought back the choir sounds I used in my E2M8 cover.
Also, I changed up the rhythm guitar a bit, made it more chuggy and stuff while the leads are rocking out. Speaking of which, I DID wind up deviating from the original leads a bit, so its not 1-for-1. I think it still turned out quite nicely though!
I had fun with riffin' and noodling around during the outro as well.
Also, I don't know if Bucket had intended for it, but the bit before it goes into the E2M4 part sounds very reminiscent of the title/menu theme for TNT Evilution. Due to that, I went and chucked in some saw synths to pay homage to TNT's title track.

Really love how this one turned out, also had fun jamming out to this one too. I think one of my favorite things in this was the "spacey" and "cool" sounding piano that plays when everything is in full swing. Bass was also simple, but very fun to play (as seen by the energetic bouncing around).
Aside from extending things for a DAR-style outro, I tried to keep as faithful as I could to the original. One change I did do was adding some volume swelling automation on the strings/orchestra in the beginning. Just felt right, and dramatic! Also added a piano chord at the end too.

Taking on such atmospheric tracks like this always proves to be a bit tricky (but fun!). Very much all about getting textures you're happy with.
Case in point, I had to go hunting for a specific electric piano sound. I needed something with just the right vibe.
I also needed to figure out what to do about the music-box sound from the original. I didn't want to just use the music-box from the gzdoom or SC-55 soundfonts, but at the same time, my alternatives were all way too bright, or didn't mesh right with the rest of the tracks. After trying out a bunch of different sounds, I wound up settling on using some celestas. Rolled off some high-end on them, and even sent the track to an aux-channel that used heavy-distortion and other little effects. Its suuuuper subtle, but its layered very, very quietly underneath the main celestas.
Also happy to bust out my "SineSpookyDeep" synth patch for the first time in such a long while. Used it for the deep drone-notes here. I also layered a string bit with it to add some grit and further impact to it.
Another thing that's challenging with tracks like this is trying to figure out how much to add without taking away from the vibe and atmosphere. I think the added choirs and those glissando strings worked out fairly nicely! Very suspenseful and full of tension.
For fun, I went and sampled the crying baby sound from the PSXDoom soundfont. Ran it through some effects, pitch-shifted some duplicates and stuff for added spooky ambience during the middle section of the song.
Another little thing I added was a synth playing the same stuff as the electric pianos. Had a nice "airy" sort of quality to it that felt nice for the atmosphere.

Had fun adding new leads on top of the intro/outro bits. Also, the good 'ol "DAR Scream" samples make a return. Ironically enough, I think the last time I used them was towards the end of the previous Doom marathon!
Originally, I was just going to use my usual reversed and time-stretched scream. However, I decided to sample more pieces from the cover demo where those clips were originally from. Also got to experiment with coming up with a signal-chain for screamy stuff like that.
On the topic of things I haven't used in a while: I also decided to throw in some Doom sound effects during the bridge bit. I don't think I've done that since MAP30 from the DOOM 2 marathon.
A small little change I made was swapping out one of the choir parts with a string-section bit. Also during the sustained notes for the string section, I decided to have them doing some half-trills.

Also, I think I'm starting to get the whole "retrowave" sort of sound nailed down! I had fun dialing in a sound to layer with the drawbar-organ part.
The Juno-styled chorus and my whammy bar also return once more for this track as well! I did decide to swap out my usual amp sim for another. I really wanted something warmer, and mellower, compared to my usual brighter tone.
I wound up changing up the cello melody that plays midway through the song. Mainly since that's the part that got replaced with the lead guitar bit. Had to mess with it for noodlin' and whammy-bar goofin' shenanigans.
Something of note that I managed to properly achieve was the use of gated reverb! Now, I know, this is a REALLY old and easy trick that just about every audio guy knows how to set up... but it took me forever to get it right, mainly because for whatever reason, the gate that I was using wasn't side-chaining properly. Thus, I never bothered messing with it any further. That is, until I finally decided to use a different gate plugin like I did here!
Once I got the aux/send-channel set up running parallel with the snare, I excitedly did the same for the kick and the toms as well. That gated reverb just really adds a special something to the drums on tracks like this especially!

To pay homage to the original Genesis tune, I tried imitating the synths a little bit. I also decided to dip the guitars in a nice amount of chorus.
Speaking of which, I finally decided to try out a new chorus effect. An emulation of the chorus effect from the Roland Juno synths (if I remember right). I also decided to try out another free retro synth. I was looking for a particular-sounding retro synth-string, and I certainly found it!
This track was absolutely ripe for noodling around and making up lead parts! I had a blast recording the leads. Especially because I also got to screw in the whammy bar for this and smacked that thing around!

That said, man it was great getting to riff around and stuff on the guitar after doing the past couple of synth-heavy covers!
This one was nice, short, and fun. Didn't want to extend it any since, I think it works great when looping.
I did manage to add in some new things though. Just my usual riffing around, and even a pick-scrape bit just for funsies. Also decided to add a harmony part towards the end, since I thought it'd sound cool!
I also quite like how the sparkly bell parts turned out!

Since I did "Jade Empire" earlier in the marathon (and really enjoyed doing the whole retro/synthwave thing), I've been really looking forward to covering another stewboy track!
I kept the song structure the same, but I did wind up adding another synth part and a new string-section bit all in the 2nd half (when everything finally hits, and gets all pretty-sounding).

Things were pretty straightforward here on this one, I just layered up my synths to get the textures that I wanted.
I will say though, its never not going to be hilarious how my "DAR Beerstorming" audio-clip works so well for creepy background ambiance. Basically, back during the D64D2 marathon, I decided to record a two-minute clip of me cracking open a cold one and proceeding to ramble, laugh, and belch into the microphone. Then, through the magic that is sound-design, I reversed, slowed, and distorted it (among other things) as heard here.

I decided to cover this one pretty straight, without any additions or deviations. The only thing I really changed up was to chop off a bit in order to make things more seamless for looping.
I originally thought about recording my guitar for the square-synth melody, but decided against doing that since it just didn't fit the vibe. Rather than going with a square-synth, I put together this spooky synth layer stack. Almost has this like sinister music box sound to it.
Also, I think this is the first time in years since I've used a marimba (last time I think was for my song "Breach Code" off of RED Planet II). It was fun layering together the various synths and samples for this one.

Surprisingly, I actually had a little bit of a hard time recording this one. I wound up having to rely on the MIDI/VSTi bass running through my usual signal-chain (with some tweaks), since I just could not get a good take on my bass. The takes were just too sloppy-sounding, and more importantly, the tone just did not gel well with the mix either. Gave it a shot though at least!
Fortunately things fared better on the rhythm and lead guitars! Though, I feel that my fast leads are a bit sloppy at times. However, in the context of the full mix, with the right amount of blend from the reverb & delay sends/aux channels, it sounds nice. That said though, the leads may not be 1-to-1 with the original MIDI. But I still jammed out to it just fine while recording the gameplay footage, so it ought to be alright!
Despite having a tricky time with this one, I actually got it done fairly quickly. I would've had this out like a few days sooner, but I had some particularly stormy weather blowing over. After one too many interruptions from brown-outs over the years, I always just wait things out. Such is the way of things while trying to record during stormy season... that and apparently the power transformer either blew up or got damaged, so that was another day of waiting while the electric company got that replaced.

When I had heard the MIDI rock organ in the original, I couldn't wait to hear what my favorite organ VSTi would sound like. I was worried at first that the typical kind of rock organ sound would sound too "groovy" and not mesh well with the hard rock. Fortunately, it worked out quite nicely. I think it gives a nice contrast, and also adds a nice texture at times.
Before getting off the topic of the rock organ, I was surprised to hear how the good 'ol ValhallaSuperMassive managed to turn the organ into a cool kind of synth pad. Its done during the bit starting around 2:28. Never really had an opportunity to run an organ through the SuperMassive, until now. Definitely going to keep this new combo in mind for future projects!
So, rock organ stuff aside, this song's originally a "Flying Colors" tune called, "Shoulda Coulda Woulda". I wanted to stay true to both the original track, as well as to Jimmy's lovely MIDI rendition of it!
I wound up extending the intro a bit, and also threw in some power-chords and stuff there in order to follow the original Flying Colors version. I did tweak the drums a bit here and there. I also decided to throw in some quiet/ghost-notes for the snares at times. Just felt in the mood to sprinkle a little spice in some sections. Also, I threw in some extra toms here and there, for rockin' dramatic impact \m/!
I had listened to the leads from the original song, and tried to mimic it sort of... though mostly, I just kinda did my own thing, and noodled to my heart's content, while trying to stay true to the spirit of the original.
I always love whenever I'm able to throw in those guitar "wails". Those bits that are most prominent during the 2nd verse (1:23).
Something neat that I got to do on this one was an old trick that I haven't used since the Doom 1 Marathon (at least, I think... its been a VERY long time either way)! Back on the E2M4 cover, I had taken my pick and did a sawing motion and scraped it on the three thinnest strings. For this current cover, at around 2:52, I started at the bridge and went up towards somewhere around the 7th fret, and then worked my way back down, scraping/sawing towards the bridge.
I wound up modifying the bass a little. Its mostly the same, I just dropped the notes down an octave during the heavy parts, to really drive home the heaviness during those parts. Also, I was surprised at how nicely the General MIDI sawtooth sound meshed with the bass at 2:24. Pleasantly gritty!
Lastly, the only other thing I did was throw in some choir parts. Which at this point, I almost feel like something important would be missing if I didn't include them when necessary. Just adds the right texture and vibe to the tracks.

So, as per usual, I tried to stick close to the original. Song structure is the same, I just tweaked and added a couple of small things here and there.
To really go further with that gothic kind of vibe with the organ, I threw in some choir parts to accompany it.
I wound up changing the rhythm guitar part around 0:50. I decided to riff around a little, and also made up some simple leads to play alongside it.
Also, I kept imagining some slow, sinister laughter, so I threw one in starting at 1:50. Which then leads into some good 'ol fun noodling on the leads.
I also decided to beef up the rhythm guitars after the sinister laugh bit. Going from single/root notes, to power-chords, for more oomph!
I don't know what it is about this final section, but it really makes me feel kind of nostalgic. Like, it makes me think of the covers I've done from the previous Doom marathons. Just has a wonderfully Doomy-vibe to me.

I was in a more noodly mood this time around and decided to make a few changes and additions to the song.
Structure is mostly the same, aside from shortening the beginning by 2 measures, and the "DAR-style" extended outro/final-chorus.
I also slightly changed up the power-chord arpeggio part when the guitars first come in. I also decided to keep the guitars going, this time without palm muting. Initially, I hadn't planned on making up a lead part during this section. I wound up adding it after I had made the leads for the outro.
Speaking of which, I absolutely loved noodling around for the outro! Those last two measures from the original MIDI were awesome and I was vibing along with it!... but then it was only just 2 measures, and thus the MIDI restarts! So for this rendition, I knew I definitely had to find a way to extend that part.
Also, I'm glad that I decided to throw in a little white-noise riser effect to lead into the solo. I usually reach for one of my cymbal samples and reverse them, but I was feeling a bit "adventurous" and ran some filtered white-noise through one of my flangers. I don't typically use risers like this since I usually associate them with EDM-type stuff, or [insert any movie-trailer from the past like 10 years]. But it worked out quite nicely here, if I do say so myself!
On the topic of feeling a little adventurous and experimental, I decided to roll back the gain on my amp quite a bit. Now, while I will do this for my rhythms at times, I usually always keep my leads nice and saturated/distorted. However, doing my leads with lower gain/drive just wound up really having the right kind of "texture" for the track. I definitely need to not shy away from rolling back the gain dial in the future.
However, I did bring the gain back up to my usual amount for one of the rhythm guitar recordings during the outro. I still had the lower-gain tracks playing, panned hard-left and hard-right. However, the 3rd rhythm recording was panned over about 25% to the left and really added a little extra oomph to the outro's rhythm section!
Of course, even more oomph was added through the use of a synth and a simple choir part. The synth wound up playing the same thing as the string section. Then the choir part is just simply sustaining an F, and then quickly going up to a G every couple of measures. Subtle, simple, but definitely effective!
In the section leading up to the solo, I decided to throw in some french horns to add to the dramatic and hopeful tone of the song.
Lastly, I just added some tom drums during the outro for a little more impact. That, and I added a few more subtle ride cymbal parts in the sections preceding the solo.
At first, when I sat down to work on this one, I was pretty nervous that I'd have a creative block. Most of the time when I'm in "work-mode" I can hear the cover in my head when just listening to the original. Though, every once in a while, I'm unable to "hear" the idea for the rendition in my head. Thankfully, everything just kinda fell into place through the course of recording and messing around!

Also, cheers to Cammy, Mr. Freeze, and Jimmy for giving this track an official name a couple of years back (as this used to be just "untitled").
I stuck closely with the original, for the most part.
I mainly changed up the drums ever so slightly, and also added a couple of harmonic bits here and there.
In my usual style, I also added some new leads for the last chorus. Nothing too fancy or flashy, as I didn't want these new leads to mess with the vibe of the original track.
I actually got this one all recorded and done pretty fast. It only took this long since I was making a special Doom cover that'll be coming out here later on July 31st! Long time fans of the channel and of TNT Evilution are sure to get a kick out of that one when it releases. But yeah, that's why this cover took a little bit to get to.

Hoo boy, this was a tough one for sure. Its been forever since I had such an energetic and noodly song!
Before I get into my usual overview and commentary, I've got a bit of a hilarious story that happened while recording... Or rather something that happened at the end of my bass recording-session. So, where I'd been keeping my bass, it had managed to build up a little bit of dust and some junk on the strings. I didn't really pay it any mind, and just got to recording and laying down the bass tracks.
Well, by the end of the session, I finally looked down at the pickguard and pickups, which were now occupied by many a dust bunny. All that playing and picking managed to knock all that dust and crud loose from the strings! First time, I think I've EVER had that happened. Had myself a good laugh about it while cleaning up the pickguard.
Also, on the topic of bass, I decided to try something a bit different. Every once in a while, I get bitten by the "tone bug", and this time, I got the urge to mess around with my signal-chains for processing the bass DI's.
I originally set off to try and get a clanky kind of modern metal bass tone, but instead I got a more (for a lack of better terms) honky and farty, "punky" sort of bass.
I also decided to sidechain my rhythm guitar bus to control an EQ curve that would boost the honk of the bass tone. So, whenever the rhy guitars were putting out signal, the bass would get a boost of honk and nastiness, to party it up with the rest of the rhythm section. Then, when the rhy guitars are tapering off, or are quiet, the EQ curve will automatically reel things back in to be less nasty.
I think I'm definitely going to be making use of this new technique moving forward. I think it really helps the bass be a bit more present, and adds a certain spice to the mix.
Tone bug adventures aside, as always, I tried to keep close and true to the original. When things are this fast and energetic, there's usually not too much wiggle room left for me to put my own spin on things (at least, without drastically altering the spirit of the track). That said though, I did manage to make some small little additions in some of the lead parts.
I did however have to slow down one of the fast bits towards the later half (though, I think it worked out nicely). I also wound up having to lower some parts in the second-half down by an octave, as things got a bit too high up to play on the guitar. I did consider goofing with a pitch-shifter effect, but decided to just roll with doing it an octave lower. I also got a little sloppy and winged it for the final sweep/shred run, but it all goes by so fast that it hopefully isn't too apparent that I didn't quite get it note for note.
One other noticeable change that I did was during the "bass solo" bit before the final chorus. Rather than fade in the rhtyhm guitars, I decided to detune a chord running through the "Metal Pad" straight from the gzdoom soundfont. I forget which song or songs in the DOOM 2 soundtrack also used this sound, but I kept hearing it in my head whenever I got to listening to this part. Then I also slapped on some delay/reverb on it just for good measure and ambience!

For the longest time, I had thought I never played Final Doom until I started doing work for the Doom Marathons here on the channel. So to my surprise, the very first time I loaded into this level and entered the maze, I was like "Oh hey, I remember this!". I don't know why I remembered this one level in particular, but I totally had a "core memory unlocked" kinda moment because of it.
I definitely remember getting all turned around in this level back then, and now, some 20-odd years later, things haven't changed a bit!
Also, I've been sitting on this cover for quite a bit now (it was just about finished back in September, I think). So my commentary on noodling and the music-side of things might be briefer than usual.
With that said, I really wished I could've used my violin for the violin bits. I instead opted for my favorite set of violin samples. The reason for this coming down to a combination of tone and skill (or lack thereof in this case.). I think I miiiight have been able to get a tone that worked, but the bigger issue was that there was no way I was going to be able to pull off those double-stops (I think that's what they were called) on the violin. I think that's also one of the reasons I set this one on the backburner. I got stubborn about wanting to record a real violin for this, that I wound up setting it aside for way too long. The problem was that I never did get time to goof around and practice on the violin!
Violin part aside, I think the rest of the cover turned out quite nicely! I really had a lot of fun riffing around on the rhythm guitar parts, as well as noodling around for the usual "DAR solo" towards the end!

Many thanks to all the fans whom left kind words and support for my previous STALKER cover, "Live to Forget"! I also want to thank you all for your patience in waiting for this cover. It may take me a while to get to songs, but I always try my best to deliver on them when I'm finally able to record.
Man, this is such a hauntingly somber track. A beautifully melancholic track that wonderfully fits the wasteland that is "The Zone". I remember falling in love with this track as soon as I heard it on Sidorovich's radio in the basement/shop.
I tried my best to stay true to the original, while also trying to combine the acoustic and piano versions of the song. As much as I love the acoustic version from the soundtrack release, its a shame that the piano version that we heard in game never got a proper release. Also to my surprise, I don't think anyone has attempted to combine the two together. With that in mind, I knew exactly how I was going to tackle this cover.
At first, I was very doubtful that I'd be able to do vocals for the cover, and was prepared to just have this be an instrumental-only cover. Curiosity and stubbornness got the better of me and I wound up transposing the song down by 3 semi-tones (tuned to C# Standard). Thus resulting in a warmer tone, further reinforcing the melancholy of the track.
Despite the mournful theme of the song, doing the vocals on this was hilarious fun. I had me going falsetto, Mickey Mouse voice, which actually worked really well in the mix. It really made for this very choir-like sound in the song. Then, an octave below the "I want my MTV" voice, the warm, softly sung, main vocals. The fun goofing around aside, this was also a rather interesting experiment and experience with vocals. Its always fun dipping my toes into styles sounds that I haven't tried before. Or at the very least, styles that I don't often get to explore.
As for the instrumental, the one regret that I have was that I wasn't able to do the 2nd guitar part from the acoustic version. It had a left and right acoustic part, but in order to make space for the piano, I had to cut the harmony guitar part. That in combination with how I had the guitar set up in the mix didn't really allow for extra guitars without sounding weird.
Recording and working with my acoustic (or well, any acoustic element/instrument for that matter), is always really tricky. However, I feel like this time around, I managed to get my mic and chair all set up in the right position. Along with the right amount of compression, EQ, reverb, and other things, I think it turned out very nice!
I actually had some ideas for some noodling around with some lead guitar parts, but I decided to exercise some restraint. Along with what I previously said about having extra guitars, I felt like anything extra thrown in would've altered the overall mood and vibe of the song.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed my rendition of this beautiful track! This will eventually make its way on to streaming services, it just depends on how long it takes my distributor to set things up. I'll make another post for when it goes live on other platforms. ~DAR

At last, the RISEN remake is complete! I remember back in 2014, I had written and recorded the whole thing in only two weeks. This time around however, I've given it a lot more tender love and care. Took a little bit to get this all re-recorded and up to my modern standards here. Well worth it I say!
Also, as a headsup, the tracks in here are slightly different from the individual ones that I've previously released here on the channel (aside from Retrospect). I mainly tweaked the bass guitar mix and made small adjustments to the lead guitar mix. There's always that last-minute/final-FINAL mix check before stuff gets sent out for distribution!
Its really wild going and listening to where I was back in November of 2014, when I first released the original, and comparing it to this release here in November of 2023!
I remember being so excited back then, after recently creating the "Solitude Of Mind" EP. As soon as that was done, I immediately went straight to cranking out what would become the RISEN album. I've always kinda considered the two of them to be one whole part, since they were completed so close to one another.
Of course, they're different thematically, but SoM and RISEN both really captured my old "classic" style/era of songwriting. New Genesis also being part of that "classic" era as well, then HORIZONS and the RED PLANET saga leading into what I consider my newer/modern style. I also consider SoM, RISEN, and NG to be the classic era because I did those three before I even launched the covers channel! I wound up learning and picking up a lot of things once I started doing allll those covers.
On the topic of themes and story, SoM and New Genesis had an apocalyptic and dystopian sort of story going on, whereas RISEN's is sweet and simple.
If I remember correctly, I never really intended for there to be this loose story going on for RISEN. I just kind of did all the songs and put them in the order that I liked. It was only afterward that I realized it told a little story. A nice little story of a journey through life.
Anyhow, I hope you all enjoyed this remake of a "classic" DAR album! I also hope you all look forward to the "New Genesis" album remake up next! ~DAR
