Redress 2024-11-04 | We are proud to announce the launch of our Redress Patrons Programme! This exciting initiative welcomes a selection of industry and community leaders who will collaborate with us to deepen their engagement in our work and champion sustainable fashion as friends and ambassadors of Redress. Our inaugural group of Patrons—long-standing friends from the sustainable fashion industry—will work closely with us to develop a robust and strategic programme. They are:

Packaging with Purpose: The Delta Global x Redress Challenge - In partnership with Tommy Hilfiger

Redress 2024-10-09 | Sustainability goes beyond clothing products. In the world of fashion design, packaging is often overlooked, yet its role in enhancing the consumer experience, aesthetics and functionality is crucial. In this year’s Delta Global Challenge, our Redress Design Award 2024 finalists were challenged to design a sustainable ecommerce packaging for upcycled polo shirts from the Tommy Remixed Collection.

Our goal is to maximise the value of each item, keeping quality clothing in use for as long as possible, and reducing the amount that ends up in landfills. Redress Design Award 2024 Highlights

Redress 2024-09-20 | That’s a wrap for the Redress Design Award 2024 Grand Final Show! 🧶

This year, we received applications from 55 countries and regions around the world. 🌎 From hundreds, 10 Finalists were chosen for their stunning sustainable designs, competing for the first prize — an opportunity to join the Tommy Hilfiger team and work on a sustainable design project for retail. 🧵

We brought the Finalists to Vietnam and Hong Kong to participate in a whirlwind educational bootcamp filled with sustainable design challenges, building their skills in circular fashion design. While in the city, they stayed at Dash Living Hong Kong. The trip concluded with a spectacular Grand Final Fashion Show at CENTRESTAGE with their outfits on the runway — followed by an exciting after-party at Soho House Hong Kong, with support from Mercedes Benz Hong Kong! 🕶️

Special thanks to our dedicated hairstylists from Davines, makeup artists from MakeUpBees, and all our guests, partners, and friends at Redress who joined us right after the typhoon. Your support at the show was incredible! We couldn't have achieved this success without you.

Redress Design Award 2024 - Meet the Finalist: Xue Wang, Italy

Redress 2024-09-03 | Xue's Redress Design Award collection, Xiapu · Abundant Wind and Blooming Flowers, honours the cultural heritage of fisherwomen from Xiapu Village in Fujian, China, wearing flower crowns.

The collection is made using zero-waste patterns and three-dimensional cutting. The garments are designed to be worn in multiple ways, for different occasions, to enhance their longevity. Snow incorporates seashells collected from the village by laser-cutting and sewing them onto twisted end-of-roll factory fabrics, and infuses the designs with reactive dye digital printing, which reduces water and air pollution.

Redress Design Award 2024 - Meet the Finalist: Louise Boase, Australia

Redress 2024-09-03 | Louise's Redress Design Award collection, DISSECT, explores pulling things apart, examining with playful curiosity, and reconfiguring whilst honouring origin.

The collection features modular garments that offer versatility with multiple ways of wearing, and uses textile waste made from 100% natural fibres, avoiding synthetics and thereby avoiding microplastic pollution. Damaged mining pants are de-branded and reconstructed into new styles whilst maintaining their existing strong features. All prints are etched digitally with laser, minimising dye and energy waste.

Redress Design Award 2024 - Meet the Finalist: Su Anli, Taiwan

Redress 2024-09-03 | Anli's Redress Design Award collection, Disappearing Space, is inspired by the disappearance of spaces worldwide due to pollution, extreme weather, and rising sea levels.

Her collection repurposes discarded materials into origami-inspired and modular designs, using zero-waste patterns to avoid offcuts. Creating three-dimensional geometric spaces on the human body inspired by architecture, she uses sample yardage fabric and incorporates longevity by allowing transformation, replacement, and various configurations through Lego-like separation and connection with loops and ropes.

Redress Design Award 2024 - Meet the Finalist: Zari Qanei, Iran

Redress 2024-09-03 | Zari's Redress Design Award collection, The Mystery of Wilderness, is inspired by nature's dominance over humanity and explores clothing as a response to the brightness of the sun and stars.

The collection upcycles textile waste such as a traditional southern Iranian scarf with Khos embroidery, velvet tablecloth, and old lace curtain. For trims, sequins are cut from compact discs, and a collar is decorated with coins sewn by velvet waste straps. The looks are designed for longevity with a basic and practical style for everyday wear, and button loops make for easy repair when needed.

Redress Design Award 2024 - Meet the Finalist: Nguyen Thi Dung, Vietnam

Redress 2024-09-03 | Dung's Redress Design Award collection, BEYOND ILLUSION, is inspired by the painting 'Wanderer above the Sea of Fog' by Casper David Friedrich.

The collection is created from a range of natural and local waste materials including pineapple silk made from agricultural waste, damaged yarn from a home textile factory, and cut-and-sew linen waste from a tailor shop. Hand-stitched details from the Japanese sakiori technique, traditional natural indigo dye, and modern cuts are combined to create practical, timeless, and adjustable designs, including a vest that can be transformed into a handbag.

Redress Design Award 2024 - Meet the Finalist: Silvia Acien Parrilla, UK

Redress 2024-09-03 | Silvia's Redress Design Award collection, REGENERATIVE FOLKLORE, is inspired by her organic farmer parents and cultural heritage with organic fibres and traditional Spanish materials like dry branches.

The collection focuses on regeneration through its use of biodegradable plant-based, organically certified fibres such as pineapple, nettle, organic cotton, Tencel, banana, and esparto dry branches. Silvia also uses GOTS-certified and plant-based dyes from invasive species to simultaneously address biodiversity concerns. To mitigate waste, she also uses zero-waste patterning and adopts a made-to-order approach.

Redress Design Award 2024 - Meet the Finalist: Tian Ruyin, Mainland China

Redress 2024-09-03 | Ruyin's Redress Design Award collection, STRIP STRAP STRIPE, is inspired by her grandmother and the chaos of memory loss through Alzheimer's disease.

The collection explores aiding memory through cutting patterns and folding strips of fabric, forming zero-waste garments. Ruyin designs for low impact by selecting materials such as organic cotton and recycled fibres from end-of-rolls and cut-and-sew waste. The garments are durable and versatile, with multiple ways of being worn via removable parts. Secondhand cotton ribbons are spliced into the garments to elevate their style, including a zero-waste vest made from a single piece of ribbon.

Redress Design Award 2024 - Meet the Finalist: Hugo Dumas, France

Redress 2024-09-03 | Hugo's Redress Design Award collection, 'Make Sort & Mend', is inspired by the British consumer campaign 'Made Do and Mend'.

The collection creates modern menswear silhouettes out of old textiles, including a shredded military parachute upcycled into a zero-waste dress with a train, zero-waste siren suit and trousers made from pure denim end-of-rolls, and a Canadian-smocked patchwork bomber jacket.

Redress 2024-09-03 | Tiger's Redress Design Award collection, The Wanderer/無依者, is inspired by the unique clothing and lifestyles of 'street wanderers'.

The collection uses upcycled materials including commonly discarded items such as towels and curtains from hotels, felt from airports, car seat covers, and discarded sofas and mattresses, which ensures a stable supply of materials while creating solutions for waste. For patterns, they consider not only aesthetics, which they believe is one of the most important factors for consumers, but also versatility and practicality.

Redress Design Award 2024 - Meet the Finalist: Miranda Mallinson-Pocock, UK

Redress 2024-09-03 | Miranda's Redress Design Award collection, Nostos, is inspired by the theme of homecoming and how we seek comfort in our homes during chaos and change.

The collection repurposes home textiles such as bed linens and soft furnishings, and reknits moth-eaten or neglected jumpers, to create elevated everyday pieces that carry nostalgic memories. Felting adds patterns and textures to knitwear, along with improving the strength and durability from natural fibres such as wool and ramie.

Redress Alumni Collaboration: Exploring Clothing Waste

Redress 2023-11-11 | As part of our ongoing work to reduce fashion's waste, we gathered a group of our talented Redress Alumni in Hong Kong to explore one of our very own waste streams: garments unfit for wear and destined to be downcycled, collected through our Takeback Programme.

Follow Pat Guzik, Eric Wong, and Lola Clavel as they work to rescue frequently found types of clothing into replicable items for resale. This pilot is only the beginning — more coming soon!

Redress Design Award Alumni Network – 2023 Highlights

Redress 2023-11-07 | 2023 has been another big year for the Redress Design Award Alumni Network - with multiple events and activities to support this new breed of fashion designers prioritising sustainability and circularity as much as desirability.

Our activities have included brand showcases at Centrestage in Hong Kong and at Shenzhen Fashion Week. We've also sent a finalist to the Circular Design Challenge through our new role as APAC Nominating Partner. Plus, we've led a design project exploring solutions to end-of-life post-consumer clothing.

The Circular Redesign Challenge with TAL Apparel

Redress 2023-11-02 | As designers, there is a real opportunity to partner with manufacturers and other industry partners to design out waste within the supply chain and through to consumer use. In the Circular Redesign Challenge with @TALApparel, we challenged our Redress Design Award Finalists to create an outfit using defective shirts, inspired by an exclusive circular design collection from @thercollective2606 The R Collective x Garcia Bello.

The Customer Experience Challenge with Delta Global

Redress 2023-10-24 | Designing for circularity goes beyond the design of the garment itself. Through packaging and messaging, there is an opportunity to communicate and share your brand story to build your customers’ emotional attachment with your product and thereby encourage longevity of use. In partnership with leading sustainable packaging expert Delta Global, we challenged our Redress Design Award Finalists, joining forces with marketing and product design students, to inspire customers through fashion’s packaging.

Redress Design Award Alumni Prize winner Eric Wong showcases upcycled designs at BAM Festival 2023

Redress 2023-10-05 | Congratulations are in order for Eric Wong on winning this year's Alumni Prize! In collaboration with our partner Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong, he took on the challenge of reimagining their used airbag waste fabric into two upcycled showpieces.

The public will have the opportunity to interact with the upcycled designs, which will be exhibited at the Innovation Hub of @Mercedes-BenzHongKong’s BAM Festival. Visitors will be able to step inside these sculptural pieces, become enveloped in the airbag material, and have the chance to be photographed as if they are wearing the garments.

On 15 October from 1:30–1:50pm, Eric and Redress’ Alumni Network Manager, Lois Wong, will be doing a live sharing about the upcycling exhibition at the Innovation Hub. In addition to this showcase from Redress, the BAM Festival will feature a range of activities including a first-hand preview of the latest Mercedes-Benz models.

Christina Dean reinvents discarded clothing waste back into her wardrobe

Redress 2023-07-12 | The world is awash with unwanted clothes; over 100 billion new garments* are produced every year; and around 70% of clothes will meet their (unnecessary!) fate in landfill or incineration. To transform this, we need to keep clothes in use for as long as possible by upping our knowledge of sustainable consumer care techniques like washing, repairing, altering and redesigning.

Watch Redress’ Founder Christina Dean as she challenges what people think nobody else wants! Plucked from the jaws of a textile recycler in China, Christina rescues dumped and dirty clothes and, alongside fashion stylist Janet Ma, injects sustainable consumer care techniques to bring waste back into wardrobes.

Managing a Low-Carbon Supply Chain – Crystal Denim

Redress 2023-03-24 | Leading garment manufacturer, Crystal International Group Limited joined Redress for a candid conversation about their initiatives to reduce carbon emissions on the path to net zero by 2050, and what it takes for a large scale manufacturer to get there.

Crystal Denim has been manufacturing garments for 40 years, producing around 60 millions pairs of jeans per year. Product Development Manager, Kim Ho, sat down with our Redress’ Education Director, Marianne Mclean-Atkins, to understand the environmental impact created at the manufacturing stage, supply chain transparency, and why it is important to engage with brands and designers.
