BONUS MEME A funny detail we didn't bring up in the video is how so many of those backlogs people keep seem to contain more or less the same games. You know, story focused massive romps from the last 10 years or so. The Witcher 3, Portal, God of War, Spider-Man, Last of Us, you get the gist. Like, yeah, maybe you have to make some time to get through Persona 5, but god, I don't know dude... Maybe you just don't like Persona? Maybe you don't have to give it the time of day? I am still waiting for them to make the superior Shin Megami Tensei Fursona, but that's just a distant dream. I cry about it at night. If you see this, write a comment that includes the word "fursona" somewhere within it.That Time Capcom Made an (Anti-)Landlord GameTransparency Boo2023-12-18 | Did you know Capcom made a landlord game? Yes, it's true! In fact, if you scrutinize this Playstation gem you may find some compelling anti-landlord themes simmering beneath the surface. As our good friend Karl Marx would say "yummy yummy!"
BONUS MEME It is incredible that this game has avoided basically all thorough inspection simply by being called One Piece Mansion. It seems literally everyone in the entire world feels real cheeky about bringing up the acclaimed manga One Piece by renowned artist Eiichiro Oda, starring Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat pirates. I mean, we did it too, so we're not judging. We might as well just hone in on that non-existent connection a bit more. Why don't you write in the comments about your favourite One Piece character, and imagine how they would be as an apartment neighbour. My favourite is of course Carrot, I think she would overload the electrical sockets and stick weird shoji fanart in your mailbox. The Dark Side of Pikmin 😈Transparency Boo2023-11-14 | Beyond its whimsical exterior, the Pikmin series packs a lot of thematic punches. Once you start digging, there's seemingly no end to the many dark implications one might draw. And I'm not talking of the post-apocalypse variety here! Hugs and kisses, love you. Enjoy, babe!
BONUS MEME: Pikmin, Pikmin, Pikmin, eat up, my children. While we may have mentioned most Pikmin games in this video, we didn't bring up Pikmin Finder because we didn't find it relevant, but most crucially we never mentioned Hotel Transylvania 3: Monsters Overboard, a game that is practically Pikmin in all but name. We certainly could've discussed it in relationship to vampire's and cruise ships, but the video was starting to get a bit long so we neglected it. Our friend Nichtschwert also brought up Overlord, where you have goblins instead of Pikmin. It seems the Piklike genre is overflowing! We're Pikmin'd out now, though. I don't wanna talk about Pikmin anymore, sorry. Have fun, friends. If you see this, write a comment that includes the word "breadbug". 00:00 Introduction to Outrun 04:38 Chapter 1: Leave Them All Behind 22:51 Chapter 2: The Giant Day 38:53 Chapter 3: Long Life 55:00 Sunset Patreon Ride
BONUS MEME! Racing games, huh? Have you ever noticed that people don't often make video essays about them? Despite being a pretty popular genre too. Like usual we wanted to make something unique, and just making something about a racing game clearly wasn't enough. So instead we made this strange art piece that combines several things about cars. What a wild ride. Kiki wrote it, however I still think Outrun 2 is a bit better than the original, it is at the very least the one I go back to over and over again. I tried to download it on our PS3 recently, but it was gone from my download list. Can you believe it? They deleted it from my downloads as if they owned the place. Rude. I paid good money for that game in 2009 or whenever it was released. And now it's just gone. This is why you can't trust digital games, people. We also showed off Cosmic Race in this video because it's a neat little game that no one really remembers except for weirdos who read about it in a video game magazine once. I played it once on an emulator and knew I had to own it so I instantly tracked a copy down. Ridge Racer, Gran Turismo and all these other PS1 racing games are also cool. Do you remember freaking Lego Racers? That title screen music though. Stuck in my head since I was but a wee barne. Also, did you know Sonic the Hedgehog shows up in several Outrun games as some cute cameo? Sometimes with Tails in the Tornado, or as an advertisement. In Outrun 2 he's a statue. I just find it funny, because it's like Outrun is definitely the second biggest Sega game about "gotta go fast", so it's like Sonic is respectfully showing his approval.
If you read all of this share your favourite racing game in the comments!Making Peace with the WORST Pokémon GameTransparency Boo2023-05-09 | The Pokémon Company goes mask off about their intentions in this unassuming Gamecube title, but can't there still be some value and insight to be found beneath its bleak exterior?
BONUS MEME! Yes, we know it was released state-side as Hey You Pikachu, we were simply doing a little jokey joke about it, ignoring its existence out of spite, so to say. Might as well mention Pokémon Dash also having a semblance of Pikachu hang-outiness within it. Do those three games form the Pikachu Lounge trilogy? Absolutely not, what a ridiculous idea. By the way, I wonder how many Pokémon appear in this video. You could totally just sit down and meticulously count them all. Pikachu, Smeargle, Slowpoke, Squirtle, Delibird, etc. You'd have to be really bored, but definitely not as bored as we were having to watch the Pichu Bros episode like 50 times while making this video. I find it funny how when you watch that one repeatedly, it really highlights how uneven the starring roles for the gang are. The Pichu Bros are of course real important, the one with the tuft of hair is a bit older and scolds the younger one when he doesn't wanna give back the ticket to Oddish. Then we have Teddiursa, who sniffs up food with his snoot and say TEDDI URSA all the time. (You should mention Teddiursa somewhere in a comment if you read this.) Then of course we have Smoochum, who's the girl one, so she's vein about her own reflection and emotionally aware of Oddish's torment. After that we have Magby who says MAGBY when he recognizes a clock and then almost drowns in a river. His role is like nothing, but not as nothing as Wooper who literally just stands around in the background vibing. But then we have Azumarill who I guess is the one handing out the tickets to the other Pokémon, and forgot to give tickets to the Pichu gang. Did you notice how they just kinda hang out with them after that? Goes to the party and hands over their ticket at the same time, and then leaves with them. Bro thinks they're part of the squad. This doesn't even get into how Meowth's gang are a bunch of assorted misfits. You'd suppose it's some sort of Team Rocket extension, what with Meowth talking and hanging out with Wobbuffet, but then Cubone is just there because I guess they needed a drummer? And the Squirtle gang, who don't even play in the band during the party. What are they doing? Carrying plates? It's funny thinking about the logistics of Meowth taking them to the rooftop twice to look at the skyline and go "well guys, this is what I've always dreamed of" and I can just imagine Cubone being "why did he take us up to the roof to say this?" while Wobbuffet is just like "he's been dreaming about the rooftops?"Is Peach ACTUALLY Woke Now? | A Helpful Guide to the Mario MovieTransparency Boo2023-01-31 | The Super Mario Bros Movie is coming and as a peachy treat Nintendo is letting damsel extraordinaire Princess Peach out of her cage to show us all what she's got. Not everyone's excited however. Some weirdos have decided that she's a wokeboss mary sue that will ruin the entire movie now. So let's forward aerial this non-issue into submission by ACTUALLY talking about Princess Peach.
BONUS MEME! Seriously though, I can't be upset about this new Mario movie because it just looks like so much goofy fun. I usually don't feel I get pandered to by Hollywood nerd bait, so this is still kinda novel to me. I see Donkey Kong on screen and point like a little monkey. I felt the same with the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, excitement all around. Imagining some post-credits teaser where they show the Koopa kids or Wario or something and everyone in the theater screaming. When they showed like five new seconds of cat Mario footage the other day I went bananas. I just can't stop being hype about anything they show, I love everything about it so far. Yes, everything. Even that ridiculous little "wahoo" Chris Pratt gives off in the go-kart. It's the funniest voice delivery I've heard in years. I walk around my apartment doing "wahoo" impressions and laugh to myself. Help me, I need this movie injected into my veins. It's gonna be one of those where you get it on ultra 4K Blu-ray only to freeze frame through the entire film just to spot every detail. Anyway, if you've read this, write a comment that includes the word "wahoo". Also, Super Princess Peach is a great game, I don't know what is wrong with all of these nerds.Tearing Away the Fourth Wall (of your heart ♥)Transparency Boo2022-12-16 | Among the pantheon of big boy Playstation exclusives you often find the same ones being talked about. BONUS MEME! There is so much stuff we wanted to say about this game that we couldn't without the video turning into a 5 hour mess. With that in mind, I find it so strange that more people don't talk about it. Everything from art design to narrative is filled to the brim with stuff to talk about. If I had the opportunity I would add a segment that is basically just a bunch of vistas with the background sounds for ambience, because the atmosphere in this game is so freaking good! The best even! Makes me feel like I am back home by the country side on a nice, warm summers day. Delightful. The Messenger is clearly cooler than Sackboy. Instead people talk about God of War Ragnarök or Horizon: Way Out West. I saw parts of the Game Awards this year and God of War is everything apparently. So no love for Tearaway. Sad times. Honestly Tearaway Unfolded should've just gotten game of the year 2022, and preferably every year after that and retroactively every year before that. That's only fair. If you read all of this junk you should leave a comment that involves the sentence "I love paper because it makes my hands feel glutinous" or something. Tell us what paper makes your hands feel like. BONUS MEME: As some of you clever viewers might have already noticed this is actually the third video in our very subtle "Fox Trilogy", where we talk about fox-based characters in video games. First there was the outstanding indie game Tunic, then we talked extensively about the Star Fox series and now we're ending it with Sonic Adventure, where we of course explore a lot about our friend Miles Tails Prower. This was of course completely planned out from the beginning and didn't just happen to be this way out of coincidence. This took months to plan, and if you look really closely you might find hints and clues in each video that points to each other. We're very clever you see. If you found these hints and clues in the previous two videos why not share them in the comments? That would be really fun for us. There's one in particular in the Tunic video that might be a bit obscure and hard to spot, but if you look closely you might just find it. BONUS MEME This video took a lot out of us, and we did not even manage to talk about everything we wanted to. We are basically Star Fox'ed out for a long time, so hopefully Nintendo doesn't announce a new one on a Nintendo Direct or something soon. I don't think we would be ready to deal with that now. The point of this video was basically that Miyu and Fay are really cool and they should have come back to Star Fox a long time ago. Like, why scrap such good designs when they're already made and ready to go. By the way the supposed leak about a Star Fox racing game by Retro Studios that was floating around several years ago was rad as heck. Would've loved to see an F-Zero-esque Star Fox racer so much, and it would be hilarious if they actually continued that thread after Command. Like who would've seen that coming? I would laugh and love it. Also, there should honestly be more Star Fox Adventures games, because I think the adventure game formula that games like The Legend of Zelda use just makes a lot of sense for this series. Exploring planets and all that jazz. Make a Star Fox platformer, kind of like Super Mario too, why not. Just make a Star Fox game for every genre, that would be great. Just throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. Star Fox Dark Souls. Fox Souls. Star Fox turn based RPG. Star Fox Panel de Pon. Star Fox Lore game. Just keep em coming Nintendo. If you've read this far write a comment about how you would love to see a Star Fox Minecraft game, and if someone else has written that too then reply to them as well and tell them what a great idea it is. BONUS MEME This video was fun to make because like half of it are just static shots from the manual, which I guess is easy, but you're also limited by not being able to show every page while also needing to vary the selections. A hard balance. Maybe that's the developer's intention? Can you imagine if they had a video essayist easy mode where there are like 100 pages in the manual with fully animated pictures and everything. You could have Tunic as a little poseable v-tuber fursona and everything. Oh, right, we've been calling that little fox Tunic internally, but I guess their real name is Ruin Seeker or something. We ended up just saying "fox boy" in the video because it rolls off the tongue. "Fox boy toy box" is really funny to say, you should write that in the comment section if you see this. By the way, it's funny how Tunic is a fox, while in A Link to the Past you become a rabbit and in Twilight Princess you become a wolf, which means that Tunic fits somewhere in-between on the scale. Maybe the fox is Link's fursona or something? Although I guess everyone loves foxes. Who doesn't love foxes? That was the secret ingredient to the Dark Souls games all along, have a fox protagonist. Brilliant! Elden Ring got snubbed off being game of the year simply because you can't play as a little sneaky forest critter. Harsh but fair lesson to learned! Every game should just feature a fox uncovering an instruction book like some lost media nut. What are you even doing if your video game doesn't have that going for it? Get it together, Miyazaki! Who needs lore if I can have "press A to jump"?Why Chrono Triggers Alternate Endings Were the BestTransparency Boo2022-03-07 | The way we talk about endings in games is perhaps a bit stilted and makes us underestimate the strengths of the medium. To explore this issue, we look at the beginnings of multiple endings, how they function and exemplify their masterful use in Chrono Trigger.
Guest voice: @Chariot_Rider
00:00 Opening 05:19 The Portopia Serial Murder Case 09:27 What even is an alternate ending? 12:35 Chrono Trigger
BONUS MEME: Isn't it kinda funny how in Chrono Trigger there's this cutscene where the characters talk about a mysterious entity beyond the frames of their world reliving its past again and again and it's so obviously referring to how the player is going through the game repeatedly, yet regardless the Chrono Trigger fandom is like confused about who this character is, it's just very hilarious. Anyway, nice to hear about Radical Dreamers dropping for real in that Chrono Cross thing, looking forward to when everyone will play it for like 5 minutes and write it off as boring, but what can you do? Also, we hope no one is super disappointed that we didn't talk at length about Croc: Legend of the Gobbos or its acclaimed sequel Croc 2 in this video despite all the nods towards it. We just found it funny to exemplify your typical game with Croc against the villains in Bomberman 64 and Klonoa, running through a Nights world collecting bobbins and Mediterranean food. Well, spagnoli is actually just a name, we initially wrote spaggoli as a weird expression for spaghetti and then the spell check wanted to change it to spagnoli and we were just like "what the heck". It should also be noted that whipped cream on the mashed potatoes is an actual Swedish saying, although it's a more general "cream on the mash" which doesn't specify that it's mashed potatoes, and to be real it probably isn't meant to be, but most people will automatically drift towards it being potatoes in their head. Additionally, cherries weren't actually in season, so we had to buy strawberries instead. Bonus meme: Kiddy Kong is genuinely rad. Like he is a really fun character to play as and the balance he provides in Donkey Kong Country 3 is honestly amazing. It's kind of sad how a lot of us have just been focusing so hard on the way he looks that all of the good he does has been completely overshadowed by hate. We have probably watched every single Donkey Kong Country based video there is to be found, and the amount of times we have seen people claim that they just kill him first chance they get so they don't have to play as him is honestly ridiculous. One of the reasons cited is because of how much slower than Dixie Kong he is, but that is actually not really quite true at all – in reality Kiddy and Dixie have the exact same running speed. But I can see why someone would miss that when they even go out of their way to avoid playing as him. People are actually so mad about this boy that they make stuff up based on what he looks like – he is chunky so therefore he must be a slow runner. Gosh, I dunno. Dixie Kong's Double Trouble changes the focus a bit, makes the characters move at similar speeds and instead focuses on their specific abilities as differentiating factors, and I actually think it is better for it. Maybe we should just be a bit nicer about Kiddy Kong and not be freaking babies about it. Kiddy Kong is good, and you should all just stop being mean.Balan Wonderworld Is Good Actually and Heres Why!Transparency Boo2022-01-10 | We are taking a journey to the mysterious Wonderworld where we will tackle the discourse of 2021's most unfairly maligned game – Balan Wonderworld. Bonus meme: Have you ever thought about that Nights and Sonic the Hedgehog too are single button games made by Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima? Like, I don't think it was that out of left field that they would once again come back to that idea and explore it further. Once again I am left a bit baffled about what people genuinely expected this game to be when these two have a very distinct catalogue of games that speak for themselves. One of Yuji Naka's more recent games is Ivy the Kiwi? for gods sake. It should have been pretty clear from the start that these guys wouldn't make something conventional for all the gamers out there. Anyway, I think we are probably talking way too much about if games are good or bad instead of talking about their ideas and what is actually interesting about them. It's a bit of a shame that value statements of quality has taken such a huge role in how we communicate about video games because it kind of sucks tbh, lol.

Bonus meme: Labyrinth was actually very important for the adventure game genre, as the Lucas Arts adaptation was a brand new venture for the studio that predates a lot of ideas from Maniac Mansion, practically laying the foundations for the SCUMM engine. Douglas Adams even got on board, suggesting lots of ideas, the most interesting being how the game starts out as a text adventure and then transforms into a visual one when the player enters the labyrinth. Basically, if it wasn't for Labyrinth you wouldn't have Secret of Monkey Island and we think that is worth appreciating. Also, savvy Transparency viewers will recognize that the customizable characters in the Labyrinth video game can also be found in the early online multiplayer game Habitat! Bonus Meme: Some people might claim that we are reading too much into the first four games, and yeah, maybe that is true. But the sad truth is that if that's the case then we probably thought about this more than Nintendo did and the series is just going to narratively stagnate. Then again the arc about Samus, the Metroids and the Chozo is supposedly being wrapped up now, and that at least fills me with some hope. The series really deserves to continue off of Fusion and just go its own way now. Also, Master Chief should be in Metroid. Not in Super Smash Bros Ultimate though. That is just silly to me. The fact that anyone believes that Master Chief, or the Doom Guy for that matter, has any sort of chance to get into that game just baffles me.Disneys Oliver & Company HATES the HomelessTransparency Boo2021-08-30 | When speaking about the history of Disney films, Oliver & Company usually falls in between the cracks as a forgettable zeitgeist mess vastly overshadowed by its siblings, without any real thought put towards actually scrutinizing the movie. With serious thought and consideration however, this little animated flick about New York cats and dogs exposes some pretty nasty insight on how the writers at Disney handle issues like poverty and homelessness. As such, it's due time we take an actual deeper look at Oliver & Company and what it has to say.
Bonusmeme: We actually made an Oliver & Company Iceberg in preparation for this video. It's full of really good information about the movie, things that you'll probably want to know and research. Also, if you're wondering, the Oliver & Company merch is really cheap. Buying all this crap really did not hurt our wallets one bit. The Georgette plush is pretty much as new, looks spotless, and we got that sucker for just 3 bucks in a second hand store. BONUSMEME: One day Minecraft will be lost to time, and no one will remember the old relic Fortnite. Can you imagine that? Me neither, but it is true. Anyway, what I wanted to say is basically that people should remember that we need to preserve all video games, not just the ones that are widely seen as worthwhile and good. That includes mobile games for example, which commonly have been seen as just random bullshit games by a lot of gamers. That doesn't matter, we need to save AFK Arena wether you like it or not. About that – did you know that Markiplier was in that freaking game? Yeah, and he was basically a character giving you what can basically be called lootboxes. He even had his dog with him! Like, fine if he wants to do that himself, but the dog can't even decide for itself. Feels kind of mean if you ask me.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chocobo tower, because we sure did.Finding Your True Self in CyberspaceTransparency Boo2021-06-28 | In celebration of summer and Pride month we take a very personal journey into cyberspace and explore how games like Final Fantasy XIV can help queer people by providing safe spaces, community and opportunities for self-expression. It's a pretty universal experience, and as such it is far from surprising that the act of working would be portrayed in video games. Join us as we explore both early and contemporary examples of labour based gaming as we pick them apart to find out what they are truly saying about the struggles of the working class.

Bonus meme; We asked people for some examples of labour based games before making this video, and we got a heck of a lot of responses to it. We quickly realized that we should have been a bit more specific as it turned out we got everything from Zelda Breath of the Wild to fun revolution kids game Pikuniku. While we could not fit all that stuff into the video we still appreciate everyone who came up with ideas, it was very interesting to say the least. Here are some of the games that were suggested, and you should probably check them out;

All memes aside, the phenomenon presents an interesting new way of engaging with media that is frankly so unique and unprecedented that it will probably never be replicated.
Bonus meme; Super Mario 64 is honestly kind of creepy, isn't it? Like it's so lonely and Mario is all alone in the world. Yeah, there are enemies and stuff, but Mario doesn't have any friends here. Very creepy. Almost like Sonic.exe. Sometimes I think about Super Mario and how he is actually kind of like my dad - he is a plumber, he is a doctor and he likes pasta. Like man, could it be more blatant that Nintendo stole the concept of my dad? Does this make me Luigi? Doug Walker thinks so.A Heartfelt Defense of Final Fantasy XTransparency Boo2021-03-22 | Few video game cutscenes are as infamous as the Final Fantasy X laughing scene, where main character Tidus embarrassingly forces a strange goose noise in public. But instead of waving it off as just some awkward misstep in an otherwise divisive franchise installment, we're going deep to examine how we got here and why it's secretly great.
Some juicy nuggets for the algorithm: The laughing scene is infamous and has, just like Sonic the Hedgehog, been wrongly treated. Everyone knows that the lore and story of these two franchises are deep and have been analysed and explained to great success, and yet some would claim that they are just a bunch of poo poo. No more I say. We will decide who is right in a battle, a tournament of three rounds to be precise. We will play the best games ever made and the winner will take everything. The games will of course be Fortnite, Minecraft and Nintendoland. Everything will of course be played on the Wii U - the superior Nintendo system. Can you believe the slander that system has had to deal with over the years? I don't know about you but I for one think that it did everything right. Let me explain to you why this is the case. You know Star Fox Zero? Best one. Super Mario 3D World? Best one. All with intuitive controls and rich experiences, finally in HD even. Isn't that just amazing?

A video game gets what is perceived to be a too high or too low review score and suddenly all hell breaks loose. You could say it is a regrettable part of gamer identity at this point. Some take it a bit further though, and proclaim games media to be too biased and incompetent, maybe even suggesting we need so-called objective reviews to take over the scene. Join us as we explore why this is indeed quite silly, and why the idea might even be a detriment to our entire understanding of video games as a medium.

Because of the way the books were initially written and what people enacted those stories, the Moomins quickly established a strong Finno-swedish identity in their mother-tongue, but never really anywhere else.

The rapid movement of trans rights around the world has seen the rise of certain individuals with unsubstantiated "concerns", ready to make their voices heard on the topic. A quite polarizing game that managed to elicit both wonder and apathy in its players. Luckily Death Stranding does strive away from the more overtly questionable portrayal of women we have gotten used to from Kojima Productions, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. If we are being perfectly honest it is kind of weird about women.

When two new characters to the series, Flick and C.J, showed signs of being romantically involved a lot of people ran with it, while others pushed back with arguments of canon and lore. What the latter group seem to have missed is that Animal Crossing is quite the queer environment, where queer readings are living freely.
