The Mystery Sound in Brooklyn Purple Shiso 2016-11-01 | feels like I'm in an episode of the twilight zone where an inexplicable sound infiltrates a neighborhood. Some people hear it, others don't because they are constantly drowning out any ambient noise with various forms of auditory entertainment. The people who don't hear it start to argue more over seemingly inconsequential things. The ones who can hear it walk around with bags under their eyes and a desperate look on their faces. Their hair starts falling out in clumps. Their posture goes all pear shaped. Their olfactory glands start secreting an odd smell which they can't smell bc their olfactory is clogged. Hair starts growing out of their ear holes at an alarming rate until they are tripping over their own ear beards. The hearing ones start humming at the same frequency as they tie ribbons in their ear hairs. Their epidermal layers start emitting a slight florescent glow. One day they all wake up to see an enormous disc hovering over head. It has a row of about a thousand old school florescent bulbs which are producing the frequency the hearers have been hearing. down on the crowd of hairy eared and bald people. Slowly something is lowered from the hatch on the underbelly. It's a rope made from human hair. The people are drawn to it as they slowly, methodically climb the ladder numbly and with great seriousness and disappear into the bowels of the disc. Meanwhile, their neighbors are having a silent disco mosh pit in the street where they are bashing each other over the heads with computer monitors. The felines and canines look on in dismay. No one has filled their food dishes in days. Suddenly the melodic sounds from a distant church bell chimes a classic ding dong ding dong as the yuge hovering disc disappears into the sunset over by the Chrysler building. Abruptly, all the street mosher's earbuds cease functioning simultaneously & they peer at each other's lack of clothing and realize that they too are naked and shivering in the late October dusk. Not only that, but they're hangry. And their four legged family are meowing and barking and chirping and what not. So they all put down their broken computer screens and retreat into their domiciles to make macaroni and cheese. the sound is never heard again by the people who never heard it to begin with.
