This video is an epilogue video to my latest stream where my character leaves to go on a journey! The reason for this is because I’m actually going to be leaving to go back to China to visit my relatives! I needed a good lore explanation for why I will be absent for two weeks and I figured this would be a nice way to end it! The Disappearance of Arctica: A Minecraft Scavenger Hunt | NGSMP Arctica The Fox 2023-12-10 | Last time, on the NGSMP, we found out that Arctica had left to go on a solo mission to find answers behind the true nature of “The Facility” that all of the island visitors and residents were seemingly trapped in. A week after Arctica went missing, Bubbles, the main overseer of “The Facility” decided to gather the server together to investigate a book that Arctica had left behind. Will the visitors of “The Facility” be able to figure out the reason behind the disappearance of their friend? Since he’s the only psychologist on the island, he has decided that the best course of action would be to give himself therapy… It went well? I suppose? I made this animation on a whim in like the span of an afternoon. Nothing fancy, no colors, no lineart. I just thought the clip was funny and I wanted to animate my interpretation of Q!Roier just talking to himself in the mirror while mildly hallucinating his own reflection coming to life XD. I actually did this meme like 4 years ago back in high school and I’ve been wanting to make an updated one ever since. I felt like Valentine’s would be the perfect day to do it! I decided to animate this updated version around the rediscovery of my romantic orientation! For those of you who don’t know, the flag that kinda looks like a watermelon is the abrosexual/abroromantic flag! What it means is that your sexual/romantic orientation is fluid and changes. I personally Identify as abroromantic because after reflecting on my experiences with romantic attraction, I realized that my romantic attraction has changed a couple of times throughout my life (started off heteroromantic, then biromantic, then demiromantic, and most recently aromantic). I’m so incredibly happy with how this turned out! The Humor of Frame-Shifts | A Class Project Arctica The Fox 2022-12-17 | Hello everybody! I know it’s been a hot minute since I’ve uploaded anything, but this past semester at college has absolutely DESTROYED me. This was by far one of the hardest semesters of school I’ve ever had, but I’m glad I survived and that it’s over, here’s to hoping the next semester won’t be as awful. Regardless, this project was super fun to work on! You might recognize a video I did last year about a very similar topic. That’s because I took a different class with the same professor, which also means the final project for the class could be completed in a similar way! Since I like to think I’m pretty good at making videos, I’ve decided to take another shot at this and explore the humor of frame-shifts this time around! I hope y’all enjoy the video! ---------------------------------------------As promised in the video, here is a more in-depth analysis/ breakdown of each frame-shift and why it’s humorous: 1. This first frame shift is set up with the following: “You see a lady pacing around in distress on the phone walking out from a veterinarian’s office. You hear her say “Please tell me you have found a cure for my salmon? Please do hurry, I’ve only got 3 hours to…” This helps set the scene and expectation of a distressed pet owner walking about of a veterinarian’s office asking about a cure for what could be assumed is the person’s pet fish. The addition of “only 3 hours” can help explain the degree of distress in the owner. However, the punchline introduced flips the initial projected meaning on its head with “… marinate it for the barbecue tonight!”. This changes the original frame to now just detail a person asking someone on the phone for a “cure” or seasoning to marinate the salmon she bought for a barbecue. 2. The second frame shift is set up with “I made a few paper cranes to help me and the boys get through work today. Unfortunately, they kept ripping when I…”. This suggests that the speaker had a rough day at work, likely at an office job where paper is readily available, and made origami paper cranes to pass the time, only to possibly have them rip when mishandled. However, with the addition of the punchline, the initial frame is shifted “… tried to use it at the construction site”. The context is now changed to a construction worker making construction cranes out of paper, which of course would rip upon trying to lift steel beams. 3. The third frame shift is set up as “Did you hear that Helen kicked the bucket last week? It’s such a shame since now she won’t be competing in the next game. Praying that her…”. This sets up the context that Helen passed away and won’t be competing in the game she was supposed to be in. The set up seems to be praying for her family or teammates, but the punchline “… broken ankle heals quickly” immediately subverts the meaning of the initial context to mean Helen literally kicked a bucket and broke her ankle. 4. The fourth frame shift is set up with “Carla, mother of two enters the living room where she hears loud dubstep music blasting through the speakers. Her youngest son Sam shouts “this is my jam!”. Carla, confused asks “But I thought you hated dubstep?”. Sam shouts back…”. The context here sets up the fact that Same doesn’t usually listen to dubstep, but seems to be stating otherwise. It isn’t until the punchline where we find out that he wasn’t talking about the music, “… No mom, Steve is trying to steal my jar of strawberry jam!”5. The fifth and final frame shift sets up the joke with “I hate waking up early. My mom keeps telling me the early bird gets the worm, but it’s gonna take a lot more than…” which seems to set up an expectation of the speaker being fed up with a meaningless saying. However the punchline now changes the meaning of the phrase from meaning metaphorical earth worms to meaning candy worms, with “…candy to convince me to wake up early”. Edit: Additional credit towards the original sources of the frame-shift paradigm, especially Seana Coulson, and the idea of "frames" (Charles J. Arcticas Descent Into Madness: Creating An Object Show Arctica The Fox 2022-05-14 | So over a month ago, while being stressed out over my finals, projects, and papers, I stumbled into the Object Show Community. Suddenly a couple weeks later I found myself yet again at the mercy of my own insatiable creative energy and have impulsively decided to create an entire object show that I'm going to "animate" and produce by myself (with the help of some friends for voice acting). The intro is the only think I will probably fully animate from the show because if I actually tried to animate this thing alone, I would probably instantly implode. Hitting On 16 | Dream SMP Animatic (Feat. Wilbur, Quackity, Ranboo, Tubbo) Arctica The Fox 2022-02-07 | Oh look! Another Dream SMP related animatic! Haven't seen those on the channel in a bit, huh? Man, I SPEED RAN this animatic as soon as Wilbur finished his reading of Hitting On 16 a couple weeks ago. I edited the audio together too since the original audio is kinda lacking in some of the details for added effect to the storytelling immersion. I kinda sorta got really burnt out about halfway through and took a few days off, but finally managed to finish up this BEAST of a project. This is probably the LONGEST ANIMATIC I have EVER DONE, OH MY GOD. I'm like hella proud with how it turned out. ISTG Wilbur writes some of the best stuff on this SMP besides Quackity (just my opinion though, I like my angst :P). The Humor Of Miscommunication | A Class Project Arctica The Fox 2021-12-15 | Hello everybody! I know this video is VERY different from what I usually put up on this channel, but I really wanted to post it here regardless since I worked REALLY hard on this project and I’m also really proud of how it turned out! This is more like a one off thing, so don’t expect me to be churning out content like this regularly XD. It was more like a challenge for myself to see what other types of videos I could make and how effectively/efficiently I could plan the whole thing out and execute it! This project was super fun to work on! I encourage everyone to experiment a bit out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves every once in a while :D. ----------------------------------------IMPORTANT UPDATE!!! My professor gave me feedback on my assignment (I did get an A :D) and I was informed that the "jokes" themselves could be considered flouting, but the characters themselves technically aren't actually flouting the maxims. Because the whole sketch is based on the premise that the people have FORGOTTEN how to observe proper maxims, they are VIOLATING the maxims, not really flouting them! Sorry for the confusion! But anyways, onto the analysis! ----------------------------------------Comedy Sketch Analysis: As promised in the video, here is a more in-depth analysis/ breakdown of each maxim flouted in the comedy sketch and why it’s humorous: In the first scenario of the comedy sketch, the maxim of relevance is flouted when person B abruptly switches the topic to talk about the weather, instead of engaging in the uncomfortable conversational topic person A started with (dropping out of college). This subversion of expectation is so dramatic, especially considering the context of the situation (being in the basement of a building in a classroom with no windows) which perfectly fits Kant’s incongruity theory. In the second scenario, person B has been so deprived of conversation over the corse of quarantine that they immediately burst out in a flurry of words (going into way too much detail in an extremely un-orderly and drawn-out monologue), flouting both maxims of quantity and manner. Way too much stuff, and way too confusing. In addition to the contents of the sentence itself, it takes so many twists and turns that subverts expectations of a normal conversation, and we end up with a rather humorous interaction that once again lines up with the incongruity theory. In the third scenario, the exact same maxims of quantity and manner are flouted; only this time, it is exaggerated in the complete opposite direction. In this scenario, person B gives very little substance in a very ambiguous way that a conversation becomes nearly impossible to maintain unless person one takes the reigns and just goes off on a monologue. In combination with the stark contrast of how cooperative person B is in their head, this subversion of expectation creates the dissonance needed to complete the punchline that delivers the humor. And finally, in our last scenario, person B flouts the maxim of quality which states that one must only speak what they know is true and have evidence for. Person B flouts this maxim multiple times in their flurry of panic from an anticipated fist bump from their friend, person A. No, a fist bump transmission isn’t as deadly as walking around without a mask on, no, they wouldn’t be “as good as dead”, and no, the things that poke out of the corona virus are not meant for rolling around, although fun fact those things are a big part of what makes the virus so deadly! Scopophobia | ARTS 201 Project [Flash Warning] Arctica The Fox 2021-12-08 | Hello everybody! It's been a short while but I am finally done with my first semester back at college since quarantine! During this time, I made two video projects that I wanted to share with you all! This first one is my ARTS 201 project where I wrote an original song and filmed a music video about it!The main idea for this video was to see if I could film one of those trippy music videos that you often see on the internet. I had some googly eyes that I originally wanted to make a different video but I never got around to using them. Then when trying to come up with an idea for a school art project, I remembered my googly eyes and I decided to go with this! The project is centered around something called scopophobia which is the fear of being stared at and judged by others. Even though I don't personally struggle with this phobia, I did some research so I could try to portray it in the form of art and music! Spoiled Little Brat Animation Meme | ft. Origins SMP Ranboo [FLASH WARNING!] Arctica The Fox 2021-10-08 | WOOO! I’m so proud of how this one turned out! This took SO LONG to make (close to 15 hours?) but I think the time and effort was worth it! Some movements are a bit too jerky for my liking, but I’m really happy with the end result over all! I decided to animate everything in procreate again and use DaVinci to edit it together! This was super fun to do! :D I have actually been wanting to do more animations and editing recently. I’ve also wanted to draw Origins SMP Ranboo as well since Origins SMP has restarted, so I found the perfect excuse to do all three at once!
