He was very courteous and welcoming to allow me to produce this video for him while his son Jason, was instrumental in helping me to set up the meeting with Barry. It was a pleasure to meet Barry and share a few coffees with him as we discussed his time with Bendigo Tramways. Sadly, Barry passed away on the 28th of August, 2022. Adam was busy preparing his old bus/coach for upcoming travels, while Kelly was practising her barista skills while producing by far the best coffee in Tarnagulla! HIStory: My Tramways Memories 50th Anniversary (HD) Shane Butcher 2022-05-05 | At the age of twelve, my dream of becoming a trammie got a kick start when I joined other volunteers laying bluestone blocks at the Nth Bendigo tram terminus in preparation for the commencement of Talking Tram operations on 9th December, 1972. In 1975 I started my first real job, a part time tram conductor on weekends and school holidays. By 1980 I had moved to Melbourne where I commenced work with the Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board as a conductor and by March of 1981, a driver at Kew Depot. I worked at Glenhuntly in 1988/9 before departing the job, only to return again after three months, but this time at East Preston Depot. By very early in 1990, I returned to Kew Depot where I remained until leaving for Perth, Western Australia to drive Transperth buses and still do.My Tramways Memories, the years I spent living my dream were more than I could have ever hoped for and sometimes thinking about those days often leaves me wondering if it was just a dream. 1970 VFL Grand Final with 3AW Commentary Full HD Shane Butcher 2022-01-08 | Arguably the greatest Grand Final in VFL/AFL history, the rousing 1970 VFL Grand Final had it all. Still the greatest half time deficit in a Grand Final that was ultimately overcome, still the largest attendance in Australian sporting history with 121, 692! Among the many highlights were Alex Jesaulenko's outstanding "mark of the century" and Ted Hopkins' brilliant 4 goal haul in the second half to bring Carlton back into the game.This production may be the only one in existence that contains the original HSV Channel 7 Melbourne footage along with the nostalgic 3AW Melbourne football commentary team comprising Norman Banks, Bill Jacobs, Doug Haywood and Doug Mason.Due to difficulties aligning the old footage along with the digitalised audio, it was necessary to create 2 to 3 second gaps at various points in order to sync the video and audio. In addition there were a couple transmission drop-outs from the original 3AW live broadcast which have been edited from the final cut. I've now also reproduced the final cut in 1080p Full HD for better quality picture and sound, though the end result may still appear grainy, due to the age of the footage and the readjustment of the aspect ratio to 16:9.It's my pleasure to offer to you this unique presentation of the Collingwood versus Carlton, 1970 VFL Grand Final.GO BLUES!

Gene Bradley Fisk on 3BO Retro Shane Butcher 2021-08-09 | Gene Bradley Fisk, born 1935 in Colac, Victoria, is an Australian country singer. Gene’s musical interests began when he joined a Banjo club at age 11 playing concerts and radio shows.Fisk formed his first band called 'The Sidewinders' in 1959. He served in the Royal Australian Air Force for 15 years before embarking on a career in radio as an announcer with 3HA, 3CV, 3BO, 3UZ and 3GL.He entered the Royal Australian Air Force as an engineering apprentice in 1951 and served for 15 years, which included overseas posting to Malaysia and Thailand.He began his broadcasting career at Butterworth Malaysia at Radio RAAF in 1960 as one of their first announcers. You're memory will live on in our hearts today and every day...For Mum xLooking back, I guess as a little kid, you were kind of like Uncle Arthur. You lived just around the corner from us in Dandenong in the 60's. I remember spending hours and hours at your place with your daughters. And I remember you sometimes coming to our place at Bairnsdale or Bendigo with your family during school holidays.Then one day, long after the sands of time had passed, you came into Mum's life and into our lives collectively. You wasted no time giving me life instructions and making it clear to me you would always be there to listen. You never let me down, though at times, I must have frustrated you. You were such a good man, I knew you'd always stand by Mum, you never let us down.When Kristy was born, you latched on to her like the 100% Poppy you were always going to be. You loved her fervently and always did. Alicia came along and you shared your abundant love as much as you did with Kristy, there was no room for complacency with you. It was all or nothing. Through the years you gave them so much joy and equally dread was dispensed, often subtly reminding them of the “Persuader”! Of course you never had to use it, but the girls will never forget it regardless.So many times over the years you often surprised me with the compassionate advice you would give. You would sit and help me for hours attempting to teach me the finer art of managing a budget or the time you told me not to love too hard. You said, “Love should be cupped in your hand like sand, so it can choose to blow in the wind, not to be enclosed and crushed.” I know you were sad when I left for Perth, but never judged me on the decision. You continued to love me and those who I chose to love. Above it all, it was Mum and her feelings you were always about protecting. You gave Mum so much love and joy, it made us all happy to see how happy she was. Mum and I often spent hours laughing about your funny ways and I'm sure we'll continue to do just that. After I set up Netflix for you for example, you would be continually calling me asking me how to get Netflix back because you'd accidentally changed the pin in the machine I'd set up for you. I was often frustrated while trying to explain to you how to get back into it, but I'd be telling Mum about it and we'd both be wetting ourselves laughing for ages. Your dry wit, sarcasm and sly grin are things I'll always cherish. While I was relaxing yesterday in the garden after doing some things around the house and thinking about you and how much I'll miss you, a magnificent Monarch Butterfly flew around, checking everything out. Unbelievably, I can't recall seeing one of these beautiful butterflies since I lived in Bendigo, but there it was in all its glory. Mary told me it was you coming to check on me and now I think about it, I believe that's true. Yes Arty, I'm OK, I just want you to be OK...to be free and rest peacefully. You've more than earned that right. If we have forgotten to show our gratitude for all the things you did, we're thanking you now. And we're hoping you knew all along, how much you meant to us and how much we loved you.

Collingwood v Carlton 2016 Shane Butcher 2020-05-01 | It was May, 2016, Carlton had already shaken the Dockers shockers in Perth in Round 5 and now I was heading to Melbourne for Round 6 & 7 to see the Blues take on Essendon and Collingwood.The Blues accounted for the Bombers on the 1st of May in Round 6 and I was there along with my daughter Alicia and grandson Brodie, both Essendon supporters. They weren't happy with the result, but loved being there with me anyway.So on the 7th of May, Round 7, I attended the match against the arch enemy, Collingwood along with my other daughter Kristy and my granddaughter Matilda, Jan and Peter, both lifetime friends.By the end of the match, Carlton had completed a hat-trick of wins in 3 weeks and sent we Blues fans into raptures! This match was also the last time I attended a game with Jan, my dear friend, who passed away on the 26th of April, 2020. I had been hoping to see another match with her against Essendon in Round 3 this year, but the coronavirus put paid to those plans.So Jan, this video is for you, our last game together...GO BLUES!

Though I was prepared for bad news, I wasn't prepared to say goodbye so soon. This has been one of the longest days of my life, producing this video and writing these words through tears. I was still planning to see one more Carlton game with you, though that was going to be hard to do, I still kept that hope alive in my heart. You've been such a huge part of my life going all the way back to 1978. I'll never forget the day of the '79 Grand Final when you came over to my place with a lot of your closest buddies. We screamed at the TV in those last few minutes chanting, "Siren! Siren! Siren!" Was one of the most enduring of the memories we shared. You soon latched onto Garry and I when we were part of the group. We went to all the parties together, footy matches; and when we moved to Melbourne, you were with us more than ever. There pretty much wasn't anything we did without you. You've been a tower of strength to me, especially after losing Shelley so early, you always had time for me and everyone who had the privilege to know you. You listened when no one else would. And even though you had as much loss in your life as anyone, your selflessness was a shining beacon that drew so many to you over the years. My beautiful, sweet Jan, I'm still numb as I write this, the true impact of what this all means evades me. I've listened intently through the tears to the hearts of your closest friends this morning, just as you would have done. So as I go to sleep tonight, I'll say a little prayer for you and hope to meet you in my dreams...just one more time.I love you...sleep now, you've earned your rest.

I wrote and recorded it in 2010 for my album “Up North down South Out West.” Gene Bradley Fisk.Everyone who has had a part to play in the City of Bendigo will appreciate that at some point in their lives they've had to leave Bendigo or worse, leave people you love in Bendigo. This song, performed so expressively by Gene, hits that Bendigo nerve in all of us who've been touched by that beautiful city.Gene Bradley Fisk was my first and last tutor for my 3 years as a 3BO Junior DJ between 1974 and 1976. Several years ago I hatched 3BO Retro which I was going to use as a way to retain the memory of 3BO after its name was changed to MMM Bendigo. I planned to make a few special 1 hour recordings including a number of old 70's tracks which were an important part of my memories of 3BO. However due to copyrights, my plan was thwarted. In the meantime I've tinkered with private collections to keep my dream alive of one day sharing it more publically. Gene was gracious enough after having contacted him to take part in 3BO Retro and sent me several station ID's which you will hear in this video. We have maintained a friendship in which I feel extremely lucky and blessed.This video also includes audio of an interview Gene did with Melbourne radio station 3AW about the release of his new album, "Up North Down South Out West". In loving memory of our dear little Aunty Shane Butcher 2019-04-20 | Yesterday, sadly, our much loved little "Aunty" passed away peacefully at the age of 80.Being Mum's only sister, she was always going to be our favourite Aunt. And she was! We as kids, had wonderful times catching the train from either Bairnsdale or Bendigo to spend time with Aunty and Jim at their place in Rosanna. Lots of shopping and movies in those days in the city, just irreplaceable times.One of my favourite holidays was spent with Aunty and my family on the Gold Coast. Dad had borrowed Jim's beautiful blue Valiant to tow the van. Whenever Aunt was with us, we always had a ball!In the early 70's, she and Jim moved back home to Bendigo and we did too. I also remember staying with her in Flora Hill, opposite the old Teacher's College and playing with her precious Corgi's, especially Cindy. I loved that dog and so did Aunt.In later years, the love of her life, pillar of strength and a man with a golden heart, Bob, was with her everywhere she went.For years and years, we enjoyed family get together's, mainly at Mum and Arthur's place in Maiden Gully, where so many wonderful memories are bound within our hearts.Aunt's laugh, her smile and her always lovingly warm hugs will never be forgotten...certainly missed, but never forgotten.So to Bobby, your family, Mum, Arthur and the rest of my beautiful family, please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of dear little Aunty.Lovingly yours,Shane

The Evolution of Bendigo Gold Football Club (Historic video). Shane Butcher 2013-08-03 | The Bendigo Football Club was an Australian rules football club based in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. The club played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) from 1998 until 2014, under the nicknames Diggers, Bombers and Gold at different times. The club disbanded at the conclusion of the 2014 VFL season.The club entered the VFL in 1998 as the Bendigo Diggers. It struggled for on-field success, winning only seven games in its first three seasons, and enduring successive winless seasons in 2001 and 2002.Starting from 2003 the club formed an affiliation with the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League, under which Essendon could field its reserves players in the Bendigo team. The Diggers mascot was changed to the Bendigo Bombers and the guernsey changed to black with a red sash, to match those of the Essendon AFL club. Over the following ten years of the clubs' affiliation, the club played finals five times, with its best finish and sole finals victory coming in 2005, when the club finished fourth. The club also endured another winless season during the affiliation, in 2009.After the completion of the 2011 season, Essendon announced that the 2012 season would be the last season of affiliation with Bendigo; Essendon fielded a stand-alone reserves team in the VFL from 2013, and Bendigo returned to fielding a stand-alone senior team. To reflect the impending change, the team changed its name to the Bendigo Gold, starting in 2012 (the final season of the clubs' affiliation).Without access to the professional players or financial support offered by its affiliation with Essendon, Bendigo quickly struggled to remain competitive as a stand-alone club. Bendigo was winless in both 2013 and 2014 – which, when added to the 2001 and 2002 seasons, represented four consecutive winless seasons as a stand-alone club.
