The snow covers the ground under a gentle blanket here in the northern hemisphere, enveloping us in a beautiful, serene silence. Here in Finland we got a particularly beautiful couple weeks filled with more snow than I've seen in a decade. In these quiet days, music changes, especially as the holidays near and evenings become an escape from the otherwise hectic citylife.As such, statoose delivers an immaculate, pure, well polished diamond of a remix of Flee by Whirly Tail, featuring Koa's gorgeous voice. The already wonderful Drum and Bass tune from Ponies at Dawn: Aurora gets a treatment that emphasises on each and every part of the original, and then some. As incredible as the original is (which this remix reunited me with), statoose takes it up a level with simple yet effective handling of the atmospheres and orchestration, engineering the sound to a more classic Liquid direction, getting absolutely everything right in its execution. Koa's proficient singing, now a staple in the fandom, is elevated even further, blending perfectly into the mix and caressing your ears, making it impossible not to hum along. Not a single miss is made, no hit pulled back. Magnificent work!It should come as no surprise that I personally enjoy this song a lot. The first time I heard this, I couldn't believe my ears! It's such a simple song, it's not something I've never heard before, but I think that's where it gets its effectiveness. It's a heavily atmospheric, orchestral Liquid DnB piece, and that's it. There's nothing complex about it, and that's perfect.But that's not all. Niłch'i Poni, also known as F109, has completed a wonderful, atmospheric song fit wonderfully for the season of autumn. Niłch'i has honed their production to impressive reaches, the sound design portion certainly seeing much love from this rising star with immersive engineering that rolls smoothly into your ears.Memories of Ambrosia is an excellent showcase of these skills Niłch'i has acquired so far, utilising sampling of the show itself in the composition wonderfully, even going as far as using the Finnish dub of the show, something which surprised myself in an equally wonderful manner. The song starts off slow and calm, with lots of time to let you immerse yourself into the journey, finally coming to a classy drum and bass section toward the end. This song is a part of a forthcoming release by Lavender, and we got her to tell about this in her own words."As she sat backstage, surrounded by the other members of the orchestra, Octavia could only think about the past, while dreading the night’s performance. Intersekt - Conchorde (Drum & Bass) Drumscape Library 2018-09-10 | I feel like there was a non-zero chance for this track to never hit Youtube, and that's not something I enjoy thinking about. When I first heard an unfinished version of it by stumbling an old stream of Intersekt's, I knew I was listening to something special. A dive into the Ponies At Dawn archives and some more snooping later, I had it pinned down: released in March 2018 through Horse Music Central Vol. 005, here's Intersekt - Conchorde. Intersekt is by no means a new face on the pony music scene, and no stranger to DnB. This track is certainly his most impressive creation yet—capturing a pure nostalgic vibe, it combines pony vocal chops with the classic style of 2010 euphoria. The triumphant brass-like lead is definitely a highlight, though if you think you've heard it all by the end of the first drop, rest assured: Conchorde is keeping its trump card up its sleeve until the end. It's been a pleasure watching Intersekt hone his production skills over the past few years, and we're excited to see what he'll come up with next. We learn that quality and quantity need not always be antithetical: every single track on this 7-track-EP is fully unique, distinctive and comes with plentiful relistening value. Pony of Shadows is a stand out track, even among its impressive competition. Taking very apparent inspiration from the latest season finale, this tune combines a menacing composition with grimy basslines to create an experience worthy of the fiend it pays tribute to. Tripon enhances this by adding his own vocals, as previously experimented with in Ponyheadz, thus crafting a pitch-black vision of Equestria under the iron fist of the Shadow. Despite being fairly recent arrivals to the scene, Nevermourn and RoomVR managed to build a reputation for themselves; they are responsible for some of the most memorable releases in pony DnB within the last year, and have of course previously appeared on the channel. With Dawning Light, both producers combined their respective skills to create a truly outstanding product. The track revolves around a smooth trumpet sample, which is supported by cascading, jazzy chords and impressively clean percussion. Little bits of ambience here and there help elevate the lovely, relaxed vibe to a truly immersive experience, and as such a track that is deserving of many re-listens.
