CavalierApplication of thermal plasma to efficient hydrogen and nanomaterials productionInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2024-03-07 | Thermal plasma gasification/pyrolysis is the strong tool for the carbon-free or even carbon-negative hydrogen production applied to organic materials (hydrocarbons) requiring only 16 kWh of energy per 1 kg of hydrogen (1 kg of hydrogen gives back 33 kWh). These can be on one hand gases like methane, natural gas or gas released at oil refineries which is anyway burned at flare stack, etc. On the other hand, even solid waste like plastics or papers, wood, and others may be used with the aim of the hydrogen production. The gasification/pyrolysis is followed by the carbon-based nanoparticles synthesis as well. Depending on the input materials (gas or solid) and their amount the quantity of nanoparticles can reach grams to tens of kilograms. Floor near the COMPASS-U tokamak strengthened by glass-fibre composite reinforcement (PohlCon GmbH)Institute of Plasma Physics IPP2023-08-30 | During the modifications of the Experimental hall for the new COMPASS-U tokamak, a new floor was designed around the future device. The tokamak itself is a device with a strong and variable magnetic field, and its control is susceptible to the unevenness of this magnetic field. Therefore, it was necessary to create a floor made of non-magnetic materials and without electrically conductive loops where a change in the magnetic field cannot induce electric currents. The fiberglass composite reinforcement of the floor was designed and manufactured by the PohlCon company, a subcontractor of the construction company STRABAG. The video, created by the Pohlcon company, summarizes the preparations and pouring of this floor.
Video, vytvořené firmou PohlCon, shrnuje přípravy a montáž této podlahy.

In general, secondary impregnation of deuterium is very interesting because it can cause safe beam breakdown, as recently shown by the JET tokamak.COMPASS Upgrade tokamak designInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2020-11-05 | Say hello to the COMPASS-U tokamak! The preliminary design review is behind us and we are currently working hard on the details of the final design.Close up view of the pellet being desintegrated by interaction with runaway electronsInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2020-02-11 | This high speed video shows explosion of graphite pellet injected into the plasma with presence of runaway electrons. The COMPASS Tokamak - pellet explosionInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2020-02-10 | The runaway electrons (RE) pose a serious threat to large tokamaks, however the experimental teams on the tokamaks all over the wold work hard in order to understand this threat and mitigate it. The Czech tokamak COMPASS turns out to be a great testbed for investigation of runaway electron physics. This video shows generation of RE beam by introducing Argon into the low density plasma and subsequent injection of graphite pellet. Before Argon injection also resonant magnetic perturbations were applied to influence the RE beam dynamics.Experiment with direct extraction of electrical energy from the tokamak plasmaInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2019-02-20 | Experiment with direct extraction of electrical energy from the tokamak plasma by using a special divertor tile. -- Pokus o přímou extrakci elektrické energie z plazmatu tokamaku za použití speciální divertorové desky. The new divertor installation in 2 minutesInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2017-12-01 | The new video shot by the COMPASS tokamak team. Installation of a new divertor segment is a demanding and fiddly job, especially if the ports allow you you only to put your hands inside the machine. This operation took around 40 hours of work and was a crucial step for installation of the divertor IR system.ÚFP video krátká verezInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2017-11-30 | Nová aktualizovaná verze videa ÚFPÚFP videoInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2017-11-30 | Nová aktualizovaná verzeIPP video short versionInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2017-11-30 | Updated version of IPP videoIPP videoInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2017-11-30 | Updated version of IPP videoRF/ICP plasma spraying of pure tungstenInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2017-10-04 | Hot tungsten likes oxygen. How much? A lot! So much, that the intense formation of oxides makes the deposition of pure tungsten by conventional open-air plasma spraying quite challenging. The oxides are undesirable as they may compromise the integrity and properties of the protective coatings prepared e.g. on the plasma-facing components intended for the fusion devices. At IPP, we are experimenting with the deposition of pure tungsten coatings with our new radiofrequency inductively coupled plasma spraying system (RF/ICP) where the coating deposition takes place in inert argon atmosphere. Now, oxygen has no chance to spoil the coating! Stay tuned for more details...The effect of nitrogen impurity seeding in the COMPASS tokamakInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2017-03-31 | This video shows the effect of nitrogen impurity seeding in the COMPASS tokamak. Although one wants to have the plasma as clean as possible to achieve high fusion performance, impurities such as nitrogen or noble gases are required to protect the plasma facing components from extreme heat loads coming from the hot plasma. These impurities allow to transform kinetic energy carried by plasma particles into visible and UV light radiation, which helps to distribute the heat fluxes uniformly on the first wall of the tokamak.Unikátní série experimentů pro projekt ITERInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2016-12-19 | The Unique Series of Experiments for the ITER ProjectSymposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT 2016)Institute of Plasma Physics IPP2016-10-07 | The 29th edition of the Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT 2016) was organized for the first time in Prague, from the 5th to 9th September 2016 in the Prague Congress Centre. The event was organized jointly by the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Research Centre Rez, two principal institutes engaged in the research of thermonuclear fusion and fusion technologies in the Czech Republic. The biennial Symposium on Fusion Technology is the leading conference in this field in Europe and it regularly attracts more than 1000 scientists, engineers, industry representatives and exhibitors from all over the world and focuses on the latest developments on running and planned fusion experiments.Port modification for the edge Thomson scattering optics (on the COMPASS tokamak)Institute of Plasma Physics IPP2016-06-16 | The local electron density and temperature in a plasma on the COMPASS tokamak have been measured using Thomson scattering diagnostic based on measurement of both intensity and spectra of a laser light scattered by plasma electrons.
Two diagnostic ports have been used for the Thomson scattering diagnostic: one oriented towards the plasma core and one towards the plasma edge. However, until recently it was not possible to cover the whole edge plasma region in several important operational scenarios due to geometrical constraints of the existing edge port. In order to optimise the field of view and to enable observation of the whole edge plasma region, the edge port had to be modified.
To this end, a new edge port design was prepared in IPP Prague. After challenging and detailed preparations, which included experimental laser cutting of material samples and test modification made on full size COMPASS vessel mock-up, the tokamak port was modified by a specialised company in June 2016. Within 30 hours the original port was cut out, the new port with larger diameter and favourable orientation was welded in place, and the tokamak vacuum pumping was resumed. After the necessary standard wall conditioning, including the vacuum vessel baking, the tokamak got ready again for the standard operation. Náročnost a problémy spojené s vývojem fúzního reaktoru vyžadují spojit úsilí a prostředky, a to nejen v rámci Evropy, ale i celosvětově. Institute of Plasma Physics - promo videoInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2016-04-06 | PopisPlasma TorchInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2016-02-18 | ...Ústav fyziky plazmatu - propagační videoInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2016-02-09 | PopisTOPTEC CentreInstitute of Plasma Physics IPP2016-02-02 | The Regional Centre for Special Optics and Optoelectronic Systems (Turnov OPToElectronic Centre - TOPTEC) is a direct extension to the optical workplace of the Institute of Plasma Physics of the CAS in Turnov.
