With the growing violence in the community and dwindling population many neighborhoods became obsolete. The city is pushing for a hard reset for many of these neighborhoods, and that means demolishing them completely. Abandoned Auditorium w/ Structural Collapses - ALL NATURAL DECAY!! LordExplores 2020-04-27 | Built in 1923, this abandoned settlement house Americanized many members of the workforce. It was opened by the Catholic church and was in service until 1971, when it closed. The building may have had more uses after it's closure, but I couldn't find any evidence of that. Abandoned Police Training Gym - Championship Boxing History on the Walls!!! LordExplores 2019-12-23 | Built in 1941, this community building served as a golf course clubhouse, dance hall, classroom, and most recently a training center for championship boxers. Starting in the 1980’s, the building housed the local Police Athletic League as well as a boxing training center.Over the years, deferred maintenance and a damaged roof have caused damage to the building. Thankfully the town is working towards nominating the park to the National Register of Historic Places, a designation that could make the Pavilion eligible for rehabilitation tax credits or grants.As of the filming of this video, work is being done on the building and surrounding area to try and restore it to its former glory. Ultimately, park officials hope the building can be reopened, continuing its role as part of the town’s storied history.---Wanna help fund the videos? Abandoned Detroit Car Factory - AMC Headquarters - CLIMBING THE TOWER!! LordExplores 2019-12-16 | Designed by Amadeo Leoni, this behemoth of a plant started as a small appliance factory, owned by the Kelvinator Corporation in 1927. The original building included a three-story factory, an office-complex, and a power plant in the rear. In January of 1937 the company merged with Nash Motors, an American automobile manufacturer based in Kenosha, Wisconsin, which gave the joint company the name Nash-Kelvinator.To keep up with production, the company expanded the plant to 1.46 million square feet in 1940. During WWII, the company aided in the war effort by being brought on as a contractor for The Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. The company carried out final assembly on helicopters for the Army, and during the span of the war, 262 helicopters were assembled at the factory.Nash-Kelvinator merged with Hudson Motors in 1954, creating the American Motors Corporation. Eventually all the appliance manufacturing was moved to other factories, and the entire plant was used exclusively as a research and design center for automobiles. In 1987 the auto company Chrysler bought out the entire facility and called it the Jeep and Truck Engineering Center.Chrysler filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on April 30, 2009, and the plant was sold in 2010. In 2013 the owner ended up scrapping as much as he could inside the building, as well as the metal roofing, leaving it exposed to the elements. In doing so, it released harmful asbestos particles into the surrounding area, and the man responsible was sentenced to two years and three months in prison for violating the Clean Air Act.Today the plant sits abandoned, with possible deals in the works to redevelop the site. Exploring Abandoned Apocolypse Hospital - INCREDIBLE DECAY!! LordExplores 2019-12-09 | Originally a two story osteopathic hospital that housed roughly 100 patients, this hospital was built in 1937 and specialized in the treatment of diseases and ailments by means of surgery. It featured a state of the art x-ray facility, an operating room, and surgical wards.As the building was being completed, plans were already being made for a new expansion that would add offices, as well as another 2-story patient wing in 1943. As the city grew the hospital expanded five times throughout the 1950s, adding new buildings and additional floors onto existing ones in the process.The hospital began losing money in the 1990’s and those working there took notice. Many began looking for work elsewhere, sensing that change was coming. Eventually the hospital shut down at the end of 1992, and stayed vacant through the beginning of the 2000s.In 2004 a small portion of the facility was used as an academy for students in the area, but after negative feedback from parents and students, it shut down as well in 2012. Since then the entire facility has sat abandoned and decaying. This is the most decayed facility I've ever seen. Climbing Inside Attic of Huge Abandoned Church - 100 Feet Up!! LordExplores 2019-12-02 | Standing tall for over 120 years, this historic Gothic Revival church was designed by famed architect Henry Schlacks. It was supposedly modeled after a church in Germany and was built for German immigrants that settled in the area in the 1890s.The church operated for decades, but in 1989 the Archdiocese closed down the church and moved elsewhere. The church sat dormant for some years and many preservation efforts were undertaken throughout the 1990’s.Noting the significance of this church and architect, it is claimed to be one of the great religious buildings in the city, and in 1989, the church was purchased and reestablished. The new owners invested in a new roof, electrical, plumbing and heating system, as the building had been sitting for a decade.The church operated normally for some time after, but eventually ran into funding issues in the 2010’s. The current owner’s ended up shutting down the church, leaving it to sit dormant. Within the span of the last couple years, scrappers and vandals have had free reign on the building, and it now sits tagged and vandalized.At some point after the closure, the metal ridge that once ran the length of the roof has been removed for unknown reasons, leaving the inside of the attic open to the elements. More than likely done in order to make money scrapping the material used. This has caused countless amounts of water damage to the historic building, and it seems there are currently no plans to take action to preserve the church.---Wanna help fund the videos? Exploring Huge Abandoned College Left To Decay LordExplores 2019-11-18 | Opening it’s doors in 1918, this junior college was built for the many people that were quickly moving into the surrounding area. Many jobs were being offered in close proximity to the campus’s location, and enrollment expectations were high. Over the next decade, expansions and additions were added to the building in order to accommodate the quickly increasing attendance rate that the booming economy was creating. Though these numbers didn’t last long. In the aftermath of the great depression of the 1930’s, enrollment dropped significantly, and lack of adequate space almost caused the school to shut down. Despite this, the community voted against the closure, and the school stayed open. By the 1980’s enrollment was at a comfortable number, though the college operated at a deficit that had grown far too high, reaching 1.4 million dollars by the end of the decade. The school administration was forced to cut programs. Faced with backlash, the administration decided to reverse its decision, but the damage was already done. The financial situation continued to deteriorate with accusations of misuse of funds, causing the Mayor to withhold state funding to the school. In February of 1995, all funding was cut due to un-resolvable financial and academic issues. Local representatives fought to keep the campus open, but by December of 1995, the college had run out of money, and closed down. Following the college’s closure, the building continued to be utilized as a Career Academy, but on January 23rd, 2009 the school board shut down the career academy with no official notification to parents, laying off 36 teachers to close the budget gap. Scrappers and vandals have since caused countless amounts of damage, causing the reopening of the school to be cost prohibitive. The Unfinished & Abandoned CEMENTLAND Amusement Park LordExplores 2019-08-19 | The Cementland amusement park was the brainchild of sculptor Bob Cassilly, and was created on the former site of an abandoned 54-acre cement factory. Cassilly used repurposed machinery and materials to create an amusement park-like art exhibit that people could explore and enjoy. Unfortunately Cassilly was killed on the Cementland property during construction and the park was never finished. The Best Historic Main Street in America - Galena, IL - Main Streets of America Ep. 3 LordExplores 2019-07-22 | Galena, Illinois was founded in 1826, and named after the natural form of lead sulfide that was mined by Native Americans before the towns founding. Today the town serves as a popular tourist destination for Chicagoans trying to escape the busy city, and for those just wanting a nice place to spend the day. This is arguably the best historic stretch of small town main street in America in my opinion.The series is getting on its way and still lacks some structure and I would love feedback on your part!
