The Peak to Peak Scenic Byway begins in the heart of a historic mining district, once known as “the richest square mile on Earth.” In the early 20th century, Americans were fascinated by the idea of new discovery, of innovation and prosperity. This was the land of possibility, and the glorious vistas at the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park have inspired generations to dream of a great big, beautiful tomorrow ever since.
Here, towering ponderosa pines forest the slopes, painting the edifice of snow-capped mountaintops with a lush wave of texture. And when the sun crests over the peaks at dawn, a misty glow emanates from the sparkling snow. All day long, the treetops are bathed in golden light, basking beneath crystal clear blue skies.
