Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles (Piano Tutorial Cover) Shan Michael Escasio 2023-09-19 | Finally, a dream come true for me!I have always wanted (and planned) to cover this awesome song by Vanessa Carlton for years now but U held back because my goal was, if I were to cover this, I will use the best piano sound I can get, and now, everything fell into place.This song is challenging for both hands and the foot. What with those fast passages that repeats frequently throughout the song and the fact that you have to control your pedaling because not all notes need to be dampened/sustained and are go be played in some kind of staccato. I have an issue with my feet (hence I cannot play fast beats on drums) so maybe my pedaling here is off in some places.I am also just a grade 1 piano student so this song, along with the techniques required to play it, is way above my level. But I still wanted to try and see. I hope that one fay I can redo this song on an 88 key keyboard. Using a semi weighted key synth for this makes the task even more difficult. To achieve this recording method without using external monitor speakers, i used a cheap soundcard (V8S) which allows me to connect 2 phones into the soundcard and record what i play on my keyboard while also recording the "clean audio" on reaper and later on, syncing everything in post.

I grew up as a singerbut eventually lost the confidence in singing when I grew older. Hale changed that for me because their songs were so goodthat it got me singing again.I have dreamedof doing covers of some of their songs but then only a few had official minus ones. I waited years and finally someone did an edit that removed the vocals for the songs with no official minus one. Credits to @synctunado7856 for that. I then just added a chords play along using a rhodes patch because it matchesthe song. But the most challenging part of this song was recording my vocals. Idon't have a proper audio interface. I just use a V8s Soundcard and tried for several days recording the vocals separately. But whenI record multitrack on Bandlab, ambient noise could be captured. I alsmost stressed out my voice doing and redoing the vocals. Finally, this is the "best" i could do without proper equipment.I hope you'll enjoy the video.

Then when I memorized a set i would then go to our song book and look for love songs or any song I am familiar with and try to use the chords i have learned, albeit using auto accompaniment. Then I came across this beautiful yet sad love song and this was when I really got into advanced chords, modes (back then i didn't know that chords with bars like C/E are actually called "modes") but the Yamaha PSR530 had fingering modes to choose from (multi, fingered 1, 2, Single finger) and when I tried F2, i was amazed that it follows what the root note of a chord I am using (inversions FTW!) and that was how I learned modes without knowing what it's called and i had been using it ever since.I have learned the piano accompaniment of this song years later when I get the chance to play on an actual piano and just improve bit by bit moving forward. This was a piece I learned in 2012 from a girl who was very dear to me. We had the same passion for music, especially piano and classical music. I met her on Facebook on this date in 2012 and soon found out we were neighbors (I never really go out of the house much) and when i found out she is also a musician, I asked her to come over so we could meet. Turns out my parents know her and her family.Long story short, we ended up doing jamming sessions every weekend and visit each other. If she could not come over, I would go to her lace and bond with her. Watching movie, sharing the bible and all that. Our bonding sessions always and up with the both of us doing the "twofie" using my old (and first ever) digital camera (a Samsung PL120). this cycle led me to grow feelings for her ever time. I did eventually confess, and she accepted it without getting mad at me. But then, months later, she grew cold shouldered and just like that, our friendship ended.She gave me this piece because we both know how to read notes and had studied under the same piano studio (though I was ahead of her, obviously being older) and just months after "mastering" this piece, this became my winning piece on a talent contest on my first job. Hence this piece holds a sentimental value for me.I was planning to cover this years ago, but I wanted to make sure that at least I'd use a decent piano sound. Then in 2016 I found Addictive Keys. But later it just didn't satisfy me.Years later, one of my Facebook friends requested me to cover this. I promised her I will but failed to deliver.2022 came and went and I found Garritan CFX Grand. My laptop can run it hit or miss. there are times I'd get hiccups while playing using the Full Samples. In 2018 however, I started doing tech unboxings of the tech I buy for personal use and for this channel, because I realized most of the time I get copyright claims on music i cover because I am doing it in a "play along cover" fashion because I am not yet that good i making my own piano renditions.When I started doing talking head videos for unboxings, I realized that it is not easy to be talking in front of the camera. But since I have decided to pursue this journey, I just told myself to toughen up and that I'll get used to it.So far, since beginning on my journey here in YouTube, I have attempted to vlog 3 travels:One last year, during our office family day (a learning visit, a productive travel with objectives tying in to our field of work). I decided not to continue working on it because as I was filming te travel, some of my mates weren't wearing face masks (we all know wearing masks was heavily imposed tat time), and I might get in trouble If I continued to upload it. LolAnother travel vlog attempt was in 2019 when my younger sister who got deployed to germany, came home for a month-long vacation. WE travelled to CDO and had vacation for 3 days. I was still using my Huawei Nova 2i (the predecessor to my current Poco F2 PRo) which had no EIS. We visited the Seven Seas Waterpark and yes I did film the majority of the adventure.One reason why it took me this long to post this 3-day travel was because I am kinda shy. Lol. I don't talk much in videos and when I do I just randomly talk (unscripted). Well because I am not much of a talker (#IntrovertProblems). I just decided to try out uploading this one just for the sake of experience. Also, I got some kind of motivaion from @BecomingFilipino. So I hope you guys will bear with me. PArt of my objective for these travel series is to showcase the shooting capabilities of my Poco F2 Pro.Also, I know that travel vlogs should contain a lot..like drone footages of the places you go. Unfortunately I don't have that luxury. Also, I had a hard time holding my vlogging kit on my left hand, and my cane on the right. I could only have ease if I am sitting on my wheelchair and just being pushed around. case in point, I kinda have a walking disability (not totally, but I can't stand or walk for long periods without my feet aching. So we always bring my wheelchair with me for travels. So this vlog is kinda like a travel vlog from a PWD's perspective. :)
