The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Middle East is a wonderful country that many people around the world tend to have a negative opinion of. We were told many times that even big cities like Riyadh are not very welcoming to tourists, that they can be dangerous, especially for women and that there is nothing to see apart from a harsh desert.
But after visiting many countries in the Middle East, we had the suspicion that these were simple misconception from people who have never set a foot in Saudi Arabia. So we decided to fly to the country and experience Saudi for ourselves, starting with the capital, Riyadh City.
As soon as we started to walk around on our own, we immediately received the Saudi hospitality. From people welcoming us to their country to others inviting us for Saudi coffee and dates and even some locals trying to pay for different things during our trip. People truly went out of their way to make us feel at home during our entire trip around Saudi Arabia, even in the more conservative cities.
Talking about generosity, if you ever visit Riyadh, you HAVE to go on the free city tour offered by The Scientist's Gift Program. Riyadh is fantastic to visit but Saudi Arabia also has some incredible landscapes just outside of the city, a place called Jebel Fihrayn but known as the End of the World due to it's abrupt cliffs going on for miles. This is a must see while in Saudi.

You might have heard of the Saudi Vision 2030 and if you visit the country, you will see it everywhere. The cities are being expended at an incredible pace. Riyadh just got a brand new train system, entertainment areas like Riyadh Boulevard City and Bujairi Terrace across from Diriyah, they are truly going all in on this incredible expansion and vision for the future making it even more attractive for tourists.
Is Saudi Arabia just a barren desert? Not even close. It is in beautiful country with breathtaking landscapes and futuristic looking cities.
Is Saudi Arabia Safe for foreigners? Yes, it is 100% safe for foreigners including women. In fact, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is by far one of the safest country we have ever visited.
Are Saudis closed up people? Not at all. Everyone we interacted with during our travels there were only welcoming to us.
