This scene contains some of Monty's best acting. His fragile, nuanced body language adroitly communicates the anguish of Perce Howland. The dialogue also contains some eerie parallels to real life...the distance between him and his mom, Sunny, as well as his battered, unrecognizable face. John Huston was one of the greatest filmmakers to ever live, and THE MISFITS is one of his unsung masterpieces. The entire, exceptional cast is marvelous here. The movie, however, never escapes from underneath its cloud of doom...it would be the last movie for both Gable and Monroe, and Monty would only make 3 more. Thank you for watching!
