Starring Ida lupino and Vincent Price. (*This is a fantastic episode, one of my favorites!) Brief summary: Fugue in C Minor" is the kind of radio horror that only Lucille Fletcher could write. As the Suspense announcer tells us at the beginning, this is a story of "brooding anxiety and sharpening suspicion, played against the severe and forbidding background of the late Victorian era." In this episode, two small children believe that their father, an organist, has killed their Mother and hidden her body within the pipes of the organ in their home. The story begins in April of 1900 in an East Coast town called Pilotsville. Amanda Peabody is introduced by her sister to a handsome widower named Mr. Theodore Evans. He and his two children live in a home that was built around a colossal pipe organ. Amanda and Theodore's mutual love of classical music brings them together, but his strange, little children stand in the way of their happiness. "Fugue in C Minor" was written by Lucille Fletcher and was produced/directed by William Spier. The title refers to the musical composition for organ by Johann Sebastian Bach. It is interesting to note that Suspense actor and announcer Joseph Kearns, "The Man in Black," really did have a home that was built around a Wurlitzer pipe organ. He unfortunately doesn't appear in this episode. Vincent Price starred as Theodore Evans and Ida Lupino as Amanda Peabody. Bea Benaderet also appeared. This episode aired on June 1, 1944. 🎙️HELLO! The show went on the air in August of 1930. "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!" The opening lines of the "Detective Story" program captivated listeners and are instantly recognizable even today. Originally the narrator of the series of macabre tales, the eerie voice known as "The Shadow" became so popular to listeners that "Detective Story" was soon renamed "The Shadow," and the narrator became the star of the Old Time Mystery Radio series, which ran until 1954. Agnes Moorehead, the first Margot Lane figure never seen, only heard, "The Shadow" was an invincible crime fighter. He possessed many gifts which enabled him to overcome any enemy. Besides his tremendous strength, he could defy gravity, speak any language, unravel any code, and become invisible with his famous ability to "cloud men's minds." Along with his team of operatives, "The Shadow" battled adversaries with chilling names like The Black Master, Kings of Crime, The Five Chameleons, and of course, The Red Menace. "The Shadow's" exploits were also avidly followed by readers in "The Shadow Magazine," which began in 1931 following the huge success of the Old Time Mystery Radio program. 🎙️HELLO! He then plots to claim the insurance money belonging to a widow. 💀About CBSRMT: CBS Radio Mystery Theater (aka Radio Mystery Theater and Mystery Theater, sometimes abbreviated as CBSRMT) is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. The format was similar to that of classic old time radio shows like "The Mysterious Traveler" and "The Whistler," in that the episodes were introduced by host E. G. Is it an accident? Or is there something more sinister at play? Listen further to find out! 🫣 🎙️About Whitehall 1212: Named after the then famous telephone number of New Scotland Yard, the headquarters of the London Metropolitan Police Force, Whitehall 1212 was a weekly Crime Drama Radio Show. It ran from November 18, 1951 until September 28, 1952. The stories were true and stated to be "the plain unvarnished facts, just as they occurred." In their own words, the series presented some of the "most baffling cases" as hosted by the fictitious Scotland Yard Chief Superintendent John Davison. Davison was said to be the curator of the Yard's "Black Museum" a name given it in 1877. Artifacts described in the show were the basis for the story about the crime. Whitehall 1212 was actually produced in the United States at NBC. The stories were well researched by Percy Hoskins, Chief Crime Reporter of the London Daily Express, and by the Writer/Director, Wyllis Cooper. Also, the show had the official support of the Yard. The cast were all British, which gives the show an authentic air and appeal. The stories are told from the view of the police who did the difficult work in solving the case, and thus it down plays some of the more sensational aspects. In comparison, at the same time, Orson Welles was on a show titled "The Black Museum." It was a production of British commercial radio producer Harry Alan Towers and told the story in a more dramatic fashion. The two shows closely paralleled each other, and ran during the same timeframe. "The Black Museum" ran in the United States on the Mutual Network from January 1st to December 30th, 1952. Wyllis Cooper was noteworthy for his work on "Quiet Please," and "Lights Out," which were both radio shows in the Horror/Thriller genre.
