Talking Tech sits down with Intel Senior Director of Client Products Nish Neelalojanan and VP and GM of China Software and Client Product Group Sam Gao to explore the Wildcat Lake platform behind Intel Core Series 3 processors and the associated Project Firefly initiative that learns from the mobile ecosystem to elevate the overall experience for mainstream laptops.
Nish explains why mainstream laptops have been stuck with aging technology for years, and how Wildcat Lake changes that with a custom monolithic SoC based on our latest IP. It features up to 2 P-cores and 4 LP E-cores, a right-sized NPU, and 2 Xe3 graphics cores with full media support. The goal: snappy everyday performance, long battery life, and broad compatibility — all at accessible price points.
Sam walks through the Firefly program, which leverages the mobile phone ecosystem to bring thinner chassis, cleaner designs, lower-cost components, and faster development cycles to the PC space. We see two Firefly prototypes, including a 12.9mm metal chassis with redesigned thermals, standardized internal cabling for a separate I/O board, and a new core logic module that combine Intel SoCs with phone-class memory to lower costs and accelerate time-to-market.
