In this video, I upgrade my DIY balcony solar setup by mounting my two 425-watt solar panels using a pair of adjustable brackets. In my previous video, I showed how I installed a plug-and-play microinverter that feeds excess energy back into the gridāpotentially turning the power meter backwards and lowering my electricity bill. But the panels were just lying on the ground, collecting dirt and missing out on optimal sunlight.
To fix that, I picked up a set of solar panel mounting brackets for just $50 on Amazon Germany. The same set goes for nearly double the price in the U.S., which might be due to tariffs or just higher demand from all the balcony solar systems in Europe. If you have any insights on that, let me know in the comments.
In this video, I mount the brackets to the side of my shed and show a full timelapse of the install. It was quick, easy, and the result is rock solid. These brackets let me adjust the tilt angle, so I used a solar angle calculator and a tilt-measuring app to set it up for summer. Iāll also explain how to adjust it later in the year for optimal winter productionāor just stick with a good year-round average angle.
I also clear up some confusion from my last video about the power meter running backward. Whether this works for you depends on your energy provider and the type of meter you have. Some meters wonāt run backward at all, and even if they do, your power company might not pay you unless youāre on a specific feed-in tariff. Itās important to check your local setup before expecting to earn from your excess solar power.
