What happens when life-safety and security products are pushed beyond the comfort of a data sheet? 🔥⚡🔨
We’re inside the LPCB test facility to see how products are tested when performance really matters.
In this video, we get behind the scenes of four very different tests:
🔥 Sprinkler fire testing - See how a mechanical sprinkler head reacts to a controlled fire, how temperatures are monitored and why only the sprinkler heads exposed to enough heat should activate.
🔨 Physical security testing - Fence panels, enclosures and roller shutters are professionally attacked using defined tools and methods to find out how long they can resist a real-world attack.
⚡ EMC testing - Inside an anechoic chamber, a fire alarm sounder is exposed to electromagnetic interference to make sure it continues to operate correctly in an electrically noisy environment.
🔥 UV & IR flame detector testing - Flame detectors are challenged with a controlled fire to see how quickly and reliably they can identify the radiation produced by a flame.
These tests may look completely different, but they’re all answering the same question:
Will the product still perform when it really matters?
A data sheet can tell you what a product is designed to do. Independent testing helps prove what happens when that product is exposed to fire, heat, physical attack and electromagnetic interference.
And even an approved product is only part of the story. Correct selection, installation, integration and maintenance are essential if it's going to deliver the same performance on site.
We also take a quick look at why LPCB approval matters and how tested products including MI cable fit into wider electrical, fire and life-safety installations.
