The Office of Inclusion and Engagement and The Africana Studies Program at Washington and Lee are happy to announce the inaugural lecture of the Ted DeLaney Lecture Series to be given by Marc Conner, Provost and Jo M. and James Ballengee Professor of English.
Marc Conner’s presentation is titled, “The Letters of Ralph Ellison: An American Perspective on the 20th Century." The talk comes out of the "The Selected Letters of Ralph Ellison," a book Marc co-edited with John Callahan, a close friend of Ellison’s and the literary executor of his estate.
The lecture series, formerly the John Chavis Lecture Series, is named in honor of Ted DeLaney, native of Lexington, as well as legendary W&L alumnus (class of ’85) and professor of history from 1995 to 2019. Like Conner, DeLaney is a founding member of Washington and Lee’s Africana Studies program.
