As part of his first official visit as High Commissioner, Barham Salih met refugees in eastern Chad and heard stories of suffering but also resilience. Since April 2023, nearly 14 million people have fled war in Sudan. Many are here in Chad. UNHCR and partners are playing a crucial role ensuring people find safety and protection, shelter and other vital assistance. But it is far from enough, given the scale of this calamity.
