In our latest video for our London exhibition For our London exhibition ‘In Air and Fire: War Artists, the Battle of Britain and the Blitz’, artist Michael Broughton, whose focus is drawing and painting, discusses his process of repeatedly depicting everyday environs to become familiar with his subjects, and how copying other artists’ drawings enables him to look more closely at their work and understand their approaches more intimately. He draws from a pen and ink drawing ‘Spanish Refugees Being Fitted with Gas Masks’ (1940) by painter and illustrator Olga Lehmann (1912-2001), featured in the exhibition. Interviewed by Curator Julia Beaumont-Jones.
