Parth G | I'm Taking a Break from Physics (and Studying) | The Importance of Vacations by Parth G @ParthGChannel | Uploaded 3 years ago | Updated 14 hours ago
I need a break.
And so do you.
Every year, I'll take a week or two off from thinking about physics. No learning new concepts, no revising old concepts, no worrying about making videos on this channel.
The reason I do this is because I want to prioritise learning physics over many years, and not burning out. I enjoy the subject very much so I want to make sure I can enjoy it for a while. Taking time off ensures I don't get tired of thinking about the same thing every single day.
It can be very easy to think that we should work through out holidays to either "get ahead" or "catch up" on our education / work. However, this will not be beneficial if we end up burning out through the following year. It's a marathon, not a sprint!
There is evidence to show that long working weeks can have negative effects on our physical and mental health. There is also some evidence to suggest that taking a holiday / vacation every year or two can have positive impacts on our wellbeing.
Here are some research papers and articles that I found interesting to read:
1) https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0160412021002208
2) https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10902-012-9345-3

During this vacation, I did a lot of other things I enjoy. I had a chance to travel in England, and got to see some very nice sights. I also got to play a new sport (tennis) and you get to see me be bad at that in the video. Lastly, I did some general maintenance on a guitar so I could record some music with it. That music is heard in this video, as well as on my second channel, linked below.
I asked all of you to send me questions over on Instagram for a Q&A. We discuss Bell's Theorem, The Schrodinger Equation, Temperature, Heat and more... Thanks for sending your questions!
Many of you have asked about the stuff I use to make my videos, so I'm posting some affiliate links here! I make a small commission if you make a purchase through these links.
