Steven SandersWe all have heard that the Moon is the main cause of tides, and that tides come from gravity. So why doesn't the Sun cause greater tides?!

The ecliptic is the Sun's equator projected into space. Obviously the planet sizes and distances are not to scale.Regression of nodesSteven Sanders2014-07-09 | A video showing the regression of nodes of the Moon's orbit with narration.

In the Fulldome Curriculum Volume 2 this video is used to help show how eclipses take place and why we do not have them every full and new moon.

Music by: Pitch Black by Jens Kiilstofte from machinimasound.com3D Tour of ConstellationsSteven Sanders2014-03-17 | This is a set of videos used in the Spitz Fulldome Curriculum series for SciDome planetariums.
In this video we spin around 5 different constellations. 1. Big Dipper (Asterism) 2. Cygnus (Constellation) 3. Leo (Constellation) 4. Orion (Constellation) 5. Scorpio (Constellation)
As we spin around each constellation you will get an idea of how far away each star is relative to each other. You can see how important perspective is and the stars are NOT all the same distance away.
Song: Dystopia ---- Composer/Producer: Per Kiilstofte Blender : www.blender.org Spitz: www.spitzinc.comMoon PhasesSteven Sanders2014-02-18 | An instructional video talking about the how and why of moon phases. More often than not teachers have to try and teach moon phases to 2nd or 3rd graders and it is not easy! I hope this blog helps explain why the moon exhibits phases and I throw in my favorite demonstration as well.
PLEASE NOTE: I made a mistake! At one point I say that full moon is 24 hours opposite the Sun. This makes no sense whatsoever! I later correct myself and say that it is 12 hours behind, but I still wanted to make sure no one is confused about this. I blame my cat for distracting me.
Music by: Bjørn Arild Lynne Song: SavannahBinary Star with light curveSteven Sanders2014-01-16 | Here is a 3D model created in Blender of the binary star EE Peg with the light curve of the system next to it. The light curve is what astronomers have observed through telescopes. You are seeing brightness change over time and thus creating a fingerprint of the binary star system. Using software called Binary Maker 3.0 the light curve was mathematically fit for a solution. Once a solution was found (once the stars were scientifically modeled) we then exported the data to blender and gave the stars a sexy look.
Made for the Spitz SciDome system and is distributed in the Fulldome Curriculum.CometSteven Sanders2013-12-05 | This is a comet made in Blender using the cycles rendering engine.
Soon I hope to add the coma to it (the glow of dust and crap around the nucleus) as well as tweak the behavior of the movement.
This movie is part of the Spitz FullDome Curriculum on the SciDome planetariums which are sold worldwide.
Precession is the wobble of the Earth which makes the poles shift position over ~26,000 years as well as the position of the Vernal and Autumnal equinoxes in the sky. This movie illustrates the movement.
Hopefully this movie gives a little more meaning to the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius.

Here is a video that shows how fast the other planets rotate compared to the Earth and also shows the respective tilt of each planet.
And yes Venus and Mercury are rotation but just really slow!
