The first stanza is a traditional arabic melody adapted into English, the second stanza is the traditional arabic Antiochian melody, and the third is an adaptation by Oleksa Lozowchuk of the way our dear priest, Abouna Antony Gabriel, chanted it during our St. George Montreal days. I wish I could have recorded many more, but your encouragement has made me aware that this week will only be the starting point, a launching point for a more in-depth project that Oleksa and I have now begun to work on. We look forward to continuing this project for you and for the Church I have been very touched by all of your support and I am very thankful if it brought you some peace in this strange moment we are living in.A very special thank-you to Dn John (Rassem) El Massih and Adam Murphy for all of their help and encouragement.
Blair Lofgren - Cello Oleksa Lozowchuk - sound engineering and compositionGive me this Stranger with celloBlair Lofgren2020-04-17 | This is the most ambitious video to date. In anticipation of this evenings Lamentations service (the funeral service of Christ), "Give me the Stranger" is chanted during the procession with the Epitaphios around the church. The composer, Chadi Karam, has very eloquently set the text to music and I have done my best to remain respectful to the ethos of the marrying of the text to the music that is so central to byzantine chant. Thank you as usual to my brother-in-law, Oleksa Lozowchuk, for his patience in the engineering process.

This is a simple offering in these strange times, where we aren't able to commune together in person. I will, God willing, be uploading more of my favourite chants from Holy Week and Pascha, so if you enjoy this, please subscribe to my channel.April 3, 2020Blair Lofgren2020-04-03 | Chopin cello sonata, third movement.
