H.W.L. Poonja - Papaji
PAPAJI - No Teaching No Teacher No Student - Interview by Rama Crowell
updated
This long satsang from the 13th of May 1993 includes the following interactions:
. MAYA: I have a terrifying experience of emptiness. Is there a state beyond the Self? Which are the qualities to live peacefully? Papaji: This is an intellectual explanation. You have no experience and playing with idea of emptiness.
. DHYAN GYAN: Why moods are continually changing? Papaji: Mood means change.
. GOPAL RAM: There are three types of silences: Intellectual, mental and real. Papaji speaks about Gandhi and how he was uttering Jay Ram when dying.
. ANOMA: speaks about her mother who is taught her how to love nature. Papaji tells her to love the present, not the past. She comes up and hugs Papaji. Papaji calls older German man up, "Even if you overhear you can enjoy." Another girl comes up and hugs Papaji., the German man and then kisses Papaji. Collective laugher
. NARAYAN DAS: Can you show me how to reach home? I have tasted silence, space of my being.
Papaji: Don’t tie rope outside. Papaji tells the story of a princess who wanted to wed anyone faster then her but all the pretenders would stop to pick up necklaces.
. WALTER: Should I forget all practices? What else should I do to find my real face? Papaji makes jokes, shows him a mirror "Looking in the mirror of mind, when the mirror is removed, where is your face? It is not there in sleep. Turn your face towards consciousness."
Papaji speaks about Saint Kabir and how he would get fed up with arrogant people. “All samsara is washed away in river of butchery/death. If this man is so arrogant, it’s better if you kick his arse!" Papaji also tells the story of Kabir's daughter Kamaali and mentions people coming from Poona not seeking true freedom.
. SHARON: For what to become Enlightened? Papaji gives him the name RAJNEESH – king of night/ darkness.

. Aphrodite (BIJLI) asks: What is the relationship between Guru and disciple?
Papaji: All other relationships possess you: parents, priest, relatives, friends and teachers. Even after death nobody leaves you. All these are relations of the flesh. Someone who wants to be free enters into relationship with preacher, following some religion like sheep. Sadguru will give you intimate relationship with your inner Self. He is to be adored, not followed. Satguru is within you. If you don’t recognize him it will manifest in somebody. Pray to yourself "I need the help of Sadguru."
Cont: Do we need healthy mind and body in order to be enlightened?
Papaji: Mind is always sick; Satsang is the only cure of sick mind. Healthy body and healthy mind are needed. If you waist all life in enjoyment of senses you will never be satisfied. Mentions old couple marrying in NY. Desire never gets old."
. Pankaji: sings her poem ‘No song to sing…’

Papaji: Sit and meditate in front of him. It is the best offering at any time to any person.
. Kamala. Papaji directs her into self-enquiry.
. John: I will try to become Buddha myself.
Papaji: Why doubt? Mind is graveyard. Living means presence without time.
. Deva Priti: Leaving and thanks
. Margareth: I am full of thoughts, ideas, and dreams. Experienced child abuse.
Papaji is moved: Whatever has happened, forget about it. They will receive their punishments. I’m your father.
. No Name: Question on karma
Papaji: Karma and rebirth do not belong to seeker of freedom. There is no karma and rebirth. Sadguru removes these stupid concepts.
. Reena sings a song by Saint Kabir.

This satsang from the 19th of December 1992 starts with a discourse titled 'THE MIND AND ITS ORIGIN,' which was used in the compilation 'In this search the question is lost' youtu.be/u51D4giXiu4?si=cuX8Zd2TSDtqyRj7
Other interactions include:
. FRENCH LADY: "Why this mind remained after realization of reality?" Papaji asks everyone to ponder onto this question.
. VASSI: "Is it right that I can have this freedom once and for all?" Papaji gives the analogy of parrots which are kept in captivity and fed regularly and who will not leave their cage even when it is open because of the habit of relying on their captors for food. Papaji: "The bird catcher of Yama will take you away one day. Undue what you are holding. Satsang breaks old patterns of life. This world is Kusang (bad association)."
.KIANA from Germany: " I haven’t found the switch to turn thoughts off." Papaji gives her direct guidance in Self enquiry and quotes Kabir's instant of time. "Keep a torch in hand to burn your house (ego). This is Kabir's prescription to cross the ocean of Samsara."
. KALI from Sweden sings ‘Govinda Narayana, Gopala Narayana’. Papaji explains that Govinda is that which destroys the sense perceptions and Narayana the bestower of freedom and emancipation.
. MARK (BANSI) plays the flute. Papaji talks about Krishna and the Gopis.
. The satsang ends with Rina singing a devotional song by Kabir which Papaji translates: "Please kindle my flame, so that I may see the way how to search you in my own heart. And without this light I cannot reach you. You have to help me to kindle my flame so that I see you."

. "In call off the search you speak about the final teachings. What are they?"
Papaji: "If the search is called off, what do you call this? This is my teaching. Then only the mind will be quiet. If you stop your search for any person, idea, object, this is peace, enlightenment. See the seer than your mind will stop. Question who is the seer?"
. Papaji was supposed to go to the US and another devotee comments how his presence is not affected by not being physically in Lucknow. Papaji recollects a time when he used to live in South India and it was reported to him to have been seen in 4 locations at the same time to celebrate the New Year.
. EYAL (Dayal): "Still unhappy and unsatisfied."
Papaji: "Don’t think of external happiness and you will feel happy. All external happiness disturbs. How difficult it is to get rid of past attachments to see ones own beauty."
. AMIBA (Gomati): "What is the connection between smoking charas and self-enquiry?"
Papaji: "By smoking charas you have no enquiry at all. If you smoke the chillum you lose your mind. At the beginning it was used to forget everything and meditate, now that purpose is lost and people are constantly smoking. Induced trances are kind of unconscious state. I don’t advice to use this drug to westerners, it doesn’t suit them and many have died."
Papaji recollects a guy called John in Rishikesh who used to take LSD and thought he was a monkey. "Smoking stops your search and destroys your health."
. SATYANANDA writes a neurotic letter.
Papaji: "It’s difficult to distinguish Jnanis from neurotics."
Papaji recollects schizophrenics visiting Papaji and becoming well.
. MR RAMSEY (Dutch comedian) sings funny songs in gibberish.
. SATYAM: Song '2 are one or all apart.’

The video includes the following:
. Papaji starts with a discourse about satsang and how no sadhana is needed to recognise one’s own nature. “To return to your own heart, I don't think you need any search, any practice, any method. Be free of all these ideations, notions, intentions, just for one second. And then wait. Then don't make effort. Don't activate your mind. Just spend one instant here, and let it be your last satsang.”
. Renu speaks of unexpected glimpse. Papaji: “The glimpse is there. You don't honour it. You use the word 'I.' Do you ever think where does this 'I' is coming from? Simply question this,
and then there's a glimpse.
. Eugenie gets the name Divya.
. Aldo: "Where from this bliss, peace is?" Papaji: “Bliss,
peace, love, beauty, is instant happening. The mind, who stayed with you for millions of years, will not allow you to go smoothly. In the flood of bliss, it will pull you back. Here you have to decide. At that time, you have to keep quiet. If you have to win the battle, keep quiet, you see. Stay quiet. Then it will recognize itself.”
. Newman: "Would you guide me beyond mind? I have forgotten how.” Papaji: “This thought, I-thought; find out where does the 'I' arise from. And you are beyond mind now. The more you go, the more you will feel happiness. Because it is fathomless peace.”
. Ramira: "I have only one deep desire: I want to be free.” Papaji: “What is the difference between that one desire and the one who is desired for, if there's only one? Go to the source of this desire.”
. Nadhia: “How can I abide in consciousness with all my inner chaos going on?”

Papaji speaks about consciousness and the notion "I am" from where all manifestation arises and gives the simile of a mustard seed to He also uses the simile of a mustard seed split into millionth of parts: "From where emerges this 'I' and then the manifestation? It belongs to a seed. Within the seed there's a whole tree. This is the emergency from nothingness."

Papaji: "Someone must be in light to see the dark. Who is the observer? Being-ness and silence is just awareness. It is choice-less. To return to your own Self you have to do nothing. Turn your back to wisdom and you suffer, but turn your face to the sun, the shadow will fall behind. Self understands Self. Ocean has no trouble but the waves see the differences. All is Self, all is emptiness, all is space, all is happiness, all the rest is your notion. All is one substratum. All is beyond any comprehension, attention, achievement. Rest here and it is peace."

A devotee explains that he found hard not to attend satsang while Papaji was away.
Papaji: "When there is purity all around, you don't want to see a single stain. All the tendencies will come up to leave you. If you don't aspire for freedom, it's not hard. You will not be in difficulty, you will live as six billion people are living. So you have to make a choice for hard life. You have to be at guard all the time. Only face towards the Self, towards the Atman, then you are safe. There is no lion herd for the lions."
Another devotee expresses her sense of unworthiness.
Papaji: "Unworthy people don't come to satsang. Only brave people will come to satsang. Don't think of future, and don't think of past. This is called nothingness."
Barkha writes: "All is blankness, not knowing why, what, where."
Papaji: "All is emptiness in your mind. From here you start this experience now. There are no distances in emptiness."
Let asks,:"How I can live awake and free in the middle of a very busy act of life that I have with a family and children, and the act of work that I do?"
Papaji: "There's no trouble with family life or anything else. You can live among them very happily, they can be helpful to you. This is an excuse, 'I can't do it. Five seconds, you are not to part anything to family, or to the world. This five seconds belong to you. This much time is needed for freedom, liberation. Just five seconds. It has to reveal when you are in love with it, you see. When you think and make use of any effort, you don't see your Self nature. It is always everywhere there. The only way is to: you keep quiet and you are there. If you know, 'It is the Supreme power which is making use of me as an instrument,' you will not be arrogant, you are free, and you will be always happy. You can live better in the household: better husband, better father, better friend."
Another devotee: "My only desire is the permanent no-thought. So, tell me the secret."
Papaji: "Occupy the mind with one desire, then it will not allow any other desire to enter. Which is that desire? 'I want to be free.' Because you did not make this desire before, therefore, many desires have been entering. And they did not give you satisfaction. No desire can give you any satisfaction, except 'I want to be free.' Don't call it a gain when it happens. Don't make it an acquisition. Just identify with it. That's all. The problem will be over. It's very direct darshan."

This compilation put together for Papaji's birthday includes a discourse from December 12, 1992: 'How to remain in perfect equanimity constantly?' Papaji explains that when the fire of knowledge arises everything is burned and this is perfect equanimity. Everything is a notion, a perception and is not permanent. We should have firm conviction "I am not body, mind, senses." Satsang frees us in this moment. One instruction is enough. Papaji tells the story of Kabir’s daughter Kamali.
In the next clip Papaji replies a question about intimate relationships: "Intimate is in the core of your heart, permanent and eternal. The rest is desire and clinging. Love is where there is no lover and no beloved."
In a very special video filmed during his visit in Kathmandu in 1993, Papaji recollects leaving Ramana to save his family in Punjab and explains the true meaning of the last interaction with Ramana when he told him 'I am with you wherever you are.' Papaji: "Awareness is 'I am,' so you have got nothing to do with the body and other thing. Ramana is taking me out of the form, attachment of the form. Even when you sleep, there's no form, no disciple, no guru. 'I am' is there. 'I am' is always there. I am That 'I am.' So he introduced me to That, which I cannot get rid of, nor it can get rid of me. Here I got the meaning, and his full teaching was completed. I bowed down, took the dust of his feet, put it in my pocket, went around thrice, again bowed down, "Bless me, please" That was my question and miracles after miracles happened."
The compilation ends with a beautiful song sang by Music Maestro Ilayraja singing 'Aruna Malai Guru Ramana' in Papaji’s lounge. For the full version of this song: youtube.com/watch?v=ThqeyoMlzQc

"All universe is within you and you are the whole universe. Having known this, you have known everything. This is absolute knowledge. Without beginning, middle, end. No birth and no death. Here ends the matter of all kinds of fears. This is the laugh of understanding."
"The best way of meditation is to concentrate on the awareness itself that has always been there. You keep aware and this awareness will reveal the truth of Itself. Awareness meditating on itself is meditation. Not on some object. Not on some subject. No fear."

*Naima gives Papaji a stuffed Hippo: "I have fear to meet you therefore I have sent my friend first."
Papaji: "When you are very near to someone, as near as your eyes, can you see it? When the mirror is kept aside, where is the reflection gone? Mind is the mirror, when it’s away you are very near to you
*Zaratustra: "Who’s thanking whom and for what? Please play the role of student/Master for one moment."
The video ends with two devotional songs by Zaratustra and Suresha and images of Papaji's son Surendra washing the urn which contained Papaji's ashes after pouring them into the Ganga at Hari Ki Pauri in Haridwar.

This satsang from the 3rd of June 94 was filmed during a power outage with devotees fanning Papaji as Lucknow temperature would be over 40/45 degrees Celcius. It includes the following interactions:
Papaji addresses JOICE and makes jokes about the word “phatichar” which means useless person: "All are tricks of the mind. Keep quiet and don’t make effort. Find where thought arises from, where the senses arise from, where 'I' rises from. Un-smelt flower has to be offered to the beloved. The face of the beloved is so beautiful that even the senses cannot be transcended to describe the word beauty."
RAMNATH: "I do not know what is happening to me, and also I do not know what is not happening to me. But I talk to see the point, but then I don't talk to not to see the no-point. I don't see the point, and I don't see any point anyway. Can I exist like this?" Papaji makes jokes whether he has been instigated by an old disciple called Kevin and tells him that he's also a 'phatichar'.
NIRMALA: "Falling more and more in love with you."

This video from the 31st of May 1994 includes Papaji instructing about meditation and love of God. “Don't believe if the whole world is telling you, you are on the wrong path. It doesn't matter, you go alone. Don't listen to anybody, because love of God does not come to everybody. You can see God, as you see anybody else. God is the Seer within you. Even when you see a dog, it is God who is seeing the dog. That much faith you must have. And you have to do it for yourself. Everybody is going to cheat you. You stick to your path, even if there's nobody. You walk alone."
Papaji reminiscences about meeting the Abbot of Monserrat and being labeled a 'mad man' because of his love of God.
One Austrian man asks about overcoming laziness. Papaji: Who taught you effort is needed? It is for God to make effort, not for you. He will come. Doesn't matter you are walking, or talking, or lying, or sitting, or standing. God is within you. He's looking what you are doing. It is His business, it's not yours. You simply keep quiet and see what is happening. You don't speak. Let Him act.

“Mind means direction. Therefore don't give any direction to the mind, it will take you to 35 million years circle. Any claim is mind. It rises from the mind. What I speak is beyond language. Words are only superficial. Word is the finger pointing to the moon, and people will hold onto the finger and not see the moon. Gate Gate Pāragate Pārasaṃgate. Gone, gone. Beyond.”

The satsang is 55 minutes long and includes the following interactions:
Prabhavati: Being unworthy and losing the diamond in the fish market.
Papaji: "That's the unworthiness of the people whom diamond is handed over. People who misuse it will suffer for million of years. It is their business to look after the diamond.
This clip has been used in the compilation 'Truth Exalts a Holy Person' youtu.be/WNiVvGl1kZ4
Anand Samarpan wants to 'share a moment' with Papaji.
Papaji: "This moment which I speak about is beyond time, and it doesn't touch any person, any thing, any idea. That's what the moment means. Can you enter it? Yes. You can't carry any load with it on your shoulders. Remove all burdens and go alone. Stay here. Keep quiet and see what’s happening.”
Amod would like to enter the moment with Papaji.
Papaji: "If you have been in the moment it’s enough. You respect that moment and it will take care of you. Keep it in mind or speak about it. Wisdom is loving something that doesn’t disappear."
Gitendra: "Is it total receptivity?"
Papaji: "Ask the question to yourself: "Am I completely worthy of you?" Turn your mind to the Self and let it question its source. Purity will enter right away. Your earnest desire to be free is worthiness. This will burn everything."
Anrupa: "It's easy to keep dog outside my bedroom."
Papaji: "I don’t advice not to keep dogs but to keep pet dogs that don’t bite."
Jamie: "How to be with fear and desire?"
Papaji: "Fear is with some person not when you are alone. This relation is past. There are not 2 persons in the world where there is no conflict. Where there are 2 there is conflict and fear. This is the law of nature. Some rare one will look for a teacher and return back to what is known. Strong is the one who rejects everything like King Jagnavarka. Every desire gives trouble to you, this is the difference between foolish man and wise man. Quiet mind is when you are free of desire."

This satsang from the 30th of January 1993 is filled with laughing moments and includes the following interactions:
*Alison: "It seems like a veil separates me from being my true Self." Papaji: "The only veil is the ego. Cut the head and offer it to the supreme power and only give up attachments. Buddha rejected all teachings and became the Buddha. Keep quiet and see where the mind is going."
*Carlos: "My mind is busy in the graveyard." Papaji: "When your ego is dead, you will eternally
live and you will never go to graveyard."
* An Older Californian lady comes up: "I'm trying too hard." Papaji call her to sit up. "Be like a rock. You are the screen untouched by the projections of the mind." Papaji tells the story of a saint who had only one son who got sick and died. "He who knows, "I am the indweller and not the dwelling place," doesn’t die. This extract was used in the compilation 'Truth Exalts a Holy Person' youtube.com/watch?v=WNiVvGl1kZ4
*Samuel: "What is preventing me to go into unknown?" Papaji guides him in enquiry.

Papaji: "There's no difference. What is empty is fullness, and what is full has to be empty.
In the beginning was emptiness, in the end will be emptiness, in between has to be emptiness. The background is emptiness, not affected by your coming in, staying, or leaving. You can't understand. You have to Be It. You are emptiness itself."

Ran comes up, “Mind is there only as memory of sensation. It's dead. And mind is continuation of this memory of sensation in time, which is a concept of mind only. I am dead and I want to die. I want to die to my wanting.”
The satsang includes the following interactions:
*Viona: “The silence runs deeper, and deeper, and deeper, and I am keeping quiet and quiet. In this moment, much more has happened even beyond my expectations and beyond my recognition. My deepest gratitude to you.”
*Ran asks: “Who is there to surrender?”
Papaji: “So long you have ego, it has to be surrendered to the teacher, who has allowed you to discharge your ego unto the ocean. Thereafter, whatever the life is, you will not have impression of your karma, because the mind is dead. You will be working, and you will be doing, but the impressions will not be there. Then you've got nothing to do with the circumstances, with these incarnations, with this life. Nothing ever has existed. No creations and no dissolutions have any time taken place. This is the ultimate truth.”
*Niravi: "It is too much bliss. I cannot stand this bliss. It might kill me.
Papaji: “It's good to die in bliss, than to live in suffering. When the silence sings, that’s the only way you can bare its bliss.”
*Eberheard: “Thank you Papaji for shaking me to wake up. But the shaking is so beautiful, moves me to tears, laughter, that I forget all about waking.”
Papaji: “This is better state than waking up. This is transcendental. Where you are always happy. There is no sun to shine in the day, no moon in the night, nor the stars. That is this shaking up. Bliss. Your permanent abode. Beyond the heavens. And there you are eternally laughing, eternally happy.”
*Barbara: "Please burn all my illusions.”
Papaji: “Tomorrow, you bring your illusions and also matchstick. We can arrange a cart of illusion. We'll have good fire, bonfire.”
*Divyam: “Being near you is joyfulness. "Being far away from you is suffering.”
Papaji: “You cannot be far from your own Self. Once you have tasted it, you can't run away far. Where can you go? Don't have fearer any doubt in your mind.”
*Gobri: "I can't go deeper to explore nothingness.”Papaji: “You do it every night, when you sleep. Because you are doing things, it doesn't happen. Don't think only and it will happen.”
*Dasarath and Kushalya sing to Papaji.
*Sammy: "I must be very dull person because I understand what you are saying intellectually, yet I haven't got it.”
Papaji: "The impediment is “I am dull.” Truth can never be understood. It's not an object of your thought. It is subject or beyond even subject. Who can ever experience the truth? Higher than truth will experience the truth, isn't it? So impediment is that you are not accepting that you are truth. Keep quiet, then it will reveal itself to you.”
*Dasarath sings another beautiful song: I love to tell you, that I love you.

falling totally in love with you. What hinders me?
Papaji: When you fall in love with someone totally, you have lost the ego. You go alone with the one whom you love. Because this is the time of honeymoon. No one knows where you are, except you, yourself. So now this honeymoon is to be performed.

This discourse was used in the compilation 'Who Am I?' ( youtu.be/nNxPg737BbM )
This satsang also includes a strong interaction with a man called John, that was used in the compilation 'Emptiness' ( youtu.be/3f5O8uKcc6M )
"Everything is only the 5 elements. See where they come from. Ether is emptiness and all elements dissolve in that. Emptiness is only mind. Mind is no different than these 5 elements, to refer the mind go back to “I”. Enquire into the 'I' and the 'I' will vanish. From that point Nothing Ever Exists."

Highlights of this satsang are:
* Sarah: “How do I get still and quiet without making any effort?"
Papaji: The mind must not go to the past. And you are happy. Sleep while sleeping, walk while walking, talk while talking, and climb while climbing. This is the teaching of no effort.
* Satyamkish: "I feel so impotent in allowing spaces of no thinking."
Papaji: “In this space there is no thought. When you simply speak the word "Thought," at that time there's no thought. When you are not aware then they will jumble up in your head.
* Jørgen: “”The time has come to realize my desire for freedom."
Papaji: “When you don't have any desire to reach anywhere then this desire is fulfilled. Your goal must be somewhere, where you have not to move even one step. And your behavior must be like a pregnant woman. You have to concentrate inside your own Self, that "This is freedom and I have to be delivered someday or the other."
* Rokus: "Stillness and love are found to be the same. There is something selfish in expressing one's experience. Also, in rejecting such feelings there is selfishness. "Only when I accept you as inner Guru, stillness is there."”
Papaji: “Let this 'I' work. Let this 'I' keep quiet, or let it speak. The guru is within everybody,
as his own heart is the guru. You keep quiet. Let it be inside or let it be outside. Peace outside. Peace inside. This is going to give you happiness.”
* Nishkam: “Am I to renounce everything to get freedom?"
Papaji: “These are not the hindrances. The hindrance is that we worry. This worry has to be avoided.
* Chaitanya (in Hindi): “How to recognize a true Master? What is the sign of a realized person?"
Papaji: “When you go to a person and your mind becomes peaceful, he is a saint.”
* Akash: “It feels like I carry a small part of your love with me.”
Papaji: “I you know "Everything is happening in my empty heart," that is the meaning of your name, then you can enjoy the world.”
* David: “Dream of park, lions and a briefcase.”
Papaji talks of social and economical fears and recollects his time in a nude beach in France and when he was in the army swimming naked in the river.

Papaji speaks about Consciousness:
"You are already free, and this freedom is consciousness. You think that contact with the objects of the senses gives you happiness, therefore everybody is involved with the objects of the senses. Whenever there is pleasure, it is from the Self, of the Self, of the consciousness; not of any objects. Objects are temporary. It is the Self that is bliss. Once you know it and you are one with it, then whosoever you will meet, you will meet from the Self and you will not find any difference between you and other objects. Your love will be forever; not with the name, not with the form, but of the Self, to the Self, of the Self, within the Self."
Highlights of this satsang are:
*Riya: "All doubts have been removed. All that was 'I' has disappeared into stillness. Who is free? It isn't 'I' because 'I' isn't there." Papaji quotes Kabir: "Let the body be still, and let the mind be still, and let the intellect be still. That's all you have got to do, and then this stillness will attract what is called enlightenment, freedom, emancipation, emptiness. They will follow behind." Papaji gives her the name Aruna. He speaks about no need for any sadhana, and asks her to explain her experience. Aruna: "I realized that there was no 'I.' It was like the 'I' was absolutely a thought and had nothing to do with anything else. It was fiction. And when I realized that it was fiction everything else disappeared. And every thought that came, I asked to whom is this thought addressed? And I got nothing. It disappeared."
*Sambuddha: "I get hooked wanting to open my heart more to deepen my understanding."
Papaji: "This 'I' is a hook, and you are being fished. Around that 'I' some meat is there and everybody goes there. So, wiser are the fish who don't touch it. This net is samsara, slowly moving. Get out of it any time."
*Angelica: "Please talk to me about love."
Papaji: "Love can be only of the Self. All the rest is lusting about. If you want to see what is love, direct your mind not to any person but to the source of the mind. Love is so pure, immaculate and there's no demand, no command. Love is to give away without any kind of interest, to give yourself up. Nothing in exchange. Only that person can be happy who loves That."
*Jerry: "I am consciousness."
Papaji: "You are that which has no limitations, and no time, and no space also. Everything is included into this consciousness because there are no limits. We construct a veil between emptiness and ourself, therefore we get into trouble. And emptiness, consciousness can never be touched. Look within yourself and you will find that you are God."
*Sammy: "In a flash I experience that the Self is everyone, everywhere, everything; that the Self manifests in whatever form, or as whatever experience is needed to lead one back to the Self. Sometimes I see a bright white dot in front of my eyes. Is there any, any significance to this?" Papaji: "All lights are still subtle mind. You have become seer to see the lights, then light has become object.Let your mind not abide anywhere, let it be anything, gross or subtle, light or darkness. You go on going, go on going, without abiding anywhere, and then you will continuously go on going."

*NOLA: "How do I turn the mind in?"
Papaji: "Withdraw from events of the body. What is it that knows the function of the mind? Decision = Buddhi = Intellect. Who is aware of ‘I’? What is this awareness? Sleep when others are awake. Awaking is seeing absolute nothing."
*LEON PILE: "Experiencing fleeting moments of peace."
Papaji guides him to enquiry, "Catch hold of the nothing, what is there to hold? Let the nothing between you and me speak. When you become somebody you are always in trouble. When you have desire you are a beggar."
Papaji tells the story of a king and a beggar: "The throne of emptiness is ready, simply sit on it.
~An extract of this clip is included in the compilation 'Beyond Desire': youtu.be/0917Sz9QG4w
*ANONIMOUS: "Who is choosing the throne of emptiness? It is also a desire!"
Papaji gives the analogy of a thorn in the foot, "Take out a thorn with the other thorn and then throw away both. You need the thorn of happiness to remove pain, but then you renounce happiness also."
Papaji gives the meaning of Avadhuta: *One who doesn’t want anything* and tells the story of a King who swapped position with a sage, with the kingdom becoming very happy because the sage had no desires.
Papaji: "Desire is worst than a serpent. It will revive again and again so don’t touch it." Papaji talks about sleeping dose of 'one instant'.
~An extract of this clip is included in the compilation 'Beyond Desire': youtu.be/0917Sz9QG4w
*ESCORIAL sends a letter from Spain. Papaji recollects an architect in Madrid wanting to build him an ashram.
*MAO: "I am bored and looking for excitement but it doesn’t last."
Papaji: "Excitement is a scorpion that stings. Give up desire."
Papaji tells the story of a king who leaves the palace together with his youngest queen to live in the forest and seek freedom. He also tells the story of a man who falls into a well and enjoys honey unaware of the crocodile who is waiting for him underneath: "Mind is hanging 6 million people. Samsara is called hang on. If you want to cut the rope you can do it."
~This clip is part of a compilation titled 'Death and Eternity': youtu.be/2I4sMu_djxc
*LAUREL FRANCIS: "I am a queen! Call off the search. Laughing at myself. The marriage has been consummated."
*EVELYN: "I am lost in the forest."
Papaji: "The fire will break and everyone will die. Better leave this forest. It is not enough to say, "I want to be free." You have to put it into practice immediately. Simply love it and dedicate yourself to it."
*CONNIE: "The ultimate gift of this moment is a diamond."
Papaji speaks of divine marriage and gives a new Name: KAMALA (wife of Vishnu). Papaji explains symbolism of Vishnu.
*SAMANTA: "Please fan the fire."
Papaji: "Now gives full blaze to the fire. Stick to Now."

“If you want freedom you have to drink the wine of love, and to offer your head as an offering to the teacher. This is the qualification for the admission into the school of love, which is a very narrow school. If you can do it, then you can speak of devotion for God, not otherwise. Then you are eligible to talk of love, Divine Love. Only then you will be admitted into this school.”

This beautiful compilation put together for Papaji’s 112th birthday starts with a discourse from the 11th of July 1992, *Truth exalts a holy person*. Papaji speaks about how deluded people believe they can still hold onto desires and at the same time seek freedom. He then tells the story of Saint Janabai who chanted the name of Ram and even her dung cakes would vibrate with Ram. “Any word that we chant, that we speak, that we think, has its own aura; it has to be represented by itself. Any name that you utter has to be in front of you, but you have to be holy. Because truth exalts a holy person.”
Prabhavati tells Papaji that she traded his gift of compassion, grace, and love, with objects of passion and lust. Papaji: “That's the unworthiness of the people whom diamond is handed over. It is their business to take care of the diamond, not mine. When somebody comes, I go on giving. I don't lose anything. I don't care for their worthiness and unworthiness. It is for them to decide if they have to keep it, love it, honour it. They will be benefited, and that benefit cannot be assessed.”
Alexander asks: “Could you provide introduction to you and me? Papaji: “Two people, you and me, have never met with. The lane is very narrow, therefore two abreast cannot walk. On the razor's edge, who will ask anything to himself? He is alone. Nobody's there. No company. No amusements. And this takes you to eternal happiness.”
An older lady tells Papaji that he is the cosmic garbage man. Papaji: “I accept garbage. Put your garbage here, and don't take it back. Everybody likes garbage and puts in the pockets. Without this smell nobody lives, you see. Even before the birth one is in garbage. After the birth, also in garbage. After life, also in garbage. Nobody will touch you. Hurry up. Hurry up.”
Shobha asks Papaji about his statements, Truth Exalts a Holy Person, and that he has yet to pass on the final teaching to anyone. Papaji: "Truth is ever new, ever fresh, and none has ever tasted it.
You become That itself.”
The last powerful extract is taken from some old footage of Papaji's satsang in Haridwar in 1990. Papaji tells the story of a tiger who believed he was a donkey and only realised his true nature when he was shown his reflection. Papaji: “How much time did it take him to become a tiger? Just a roar. You are not different than the tiger. Just roar, "I Am That!” "Aham Brahmasmi.” Tat Tvam Asi. You Are That. You are being taken to the lake, and if you are in the jaws of the tiger, he will not leave you. He will take you to the lake, and you will identify yourself with what you really are.”

Papaji then addressed Charles from San Juan Island: "I say you are free, let it not enter the head. You Are Free. Don't allow your head to interfere in this conversation. And if it doesn't enter the head, then who are you? You must open the heart and not the head. Once slightly open for an instant, and all is over."
