It’s the only time you can go right up to and touch the stones.
At the start of summer, this draws thousands of people to celebrate the sunrise on the longest day of the year.
But before the year 2000, there was a period of 15 years where access was denied to the public. This was part of a violent crackdown of the free-party movement, which throughout the 70's and 80's grew to a size that became a threat to the establishment.
We went to Stonehenge on the night of the solstice to speak to people experiencing the event for the first time, and others who were there in the days of the free-party scene.

A new kebab shop in south London.
Their aim is to run the shop based on some communist principles. We followed their progress over a couple of months, and spent the day of the opening speaking to members of the local community as the shop gave away 1000 kebabs for free.
