So I am using three kinds of diffusion filters all stacked on one another. I have a Cinebloom 10%, a Tiffen Glimmerglass 1, and a Vivitar Soft Focus. All three give it that soft film look, but the glimmer glass especially blows up the highlights and the cinebloom creates the haze of light you see in the beginning. If I had to only go with one, I would go with the Cinebloom, but all three were great.
As I do more and more film emulation, I find that it's really important to do more in camera using hard lights and filters.
As you can see, there are also four kinds of film emulation used along with the filters. The first and third are in-camera simulations from #fujifilm: Classic Chrome and monochrome. The second and fourth are done with flog. The second one is done with Cineprint v2 and the fourth is with FilmConvert. I also apply film convert onto the Classic Chrome and Monochrome, which is one of the reasons I love using FilmConvert Film Emulation so much.
I used a Fujifilm xt3 and Fujifilm 16mm f1.4 lens for all the shots. I just really really love using Fujifilm for film emulation. The 4th one is also specifically emulation a Fujifilm VD film stock for nighttime/indoors. Go Fujifilm.
All the grading was done with Da Vinci Resolve.
