Introducing the all new Lightning Base! Just 5 folds make a bolt of lightning, and from this base I've already discovered dozens of cool action models and surprising polyhedra. In this tutorial I focus mostly on the magic pyramid (cousin to the "Magic Cube") but I end up also showing how to fold at least 9 other models branching out from this, two of which I discovered as I was filming the tutorial!
I discovered the base by free-folding. I might have even been trying to fold some sort of pyramid. 5-folds later I landed on the bolt of lightning, and from there, I folded the extra flap behind so that it would be a clean rectangular lightning bolt. Then, I was able to employ another flap to make the model stand. From there I just started exploring the base and all sorts of cool polyhedra started appearing. I think it's mainly because after making the first full fold you already have a model with four flaps and four pockets. And that lends itself to so many possibilities for lockable models.
