Parts of my pasture were dying — dry, dusty, covered in dandelions — while other spots were thriving with clover. The problem wasn't a lack of water, it was where the water was actually going.
In this video I break out an old single-bottom plow, borrowed from my neighbor, and use it to cut irrigation furrows by hand — a flood irrigation method that's been used on farms for generations, long before center pivots took over. I walk through how I read the land (clover means too much water, dandelions mean too little), how I redirected the ditch water with headgates, and how a full day of cutting furrows changed the flow across the whole property.
This isn't a perfect system, and I'm still learning as I go — but 24 hours after opening the water, you can already see the difference.
