By 1968, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas had a list of hit records to their name. Deke Richards was a new songwriter to the label and was given the task of writing a new A-side single for the group. "I Can't Dance To That Music You're Playin'" was written specifically for Martha Reeves. Unsatisfied with the first version, Motown's Quality Control had the song re-recorded which is the version here. Lost in the Motown vaults until 2013, it was recently released on "Martha Reeves & the Vandellas - 50th Anniversary: The Singles Collection 1962-1972."
