Ever wondered what happens if you make an electric guitar out of a tennis racket? 🎸🎾
In this crazy DIY project, I show you step by step how to turn a simple tennis racket into a playable electric guitar!
I made an electric guitar out of an old vintage tennis racket. And this is a real working guitar. Yes, this guitar is fretless (although I drew them) and it has only two strings, but you can play the most of guitar riffs with power chords. I wonder what proponents of the tonewood theory will say about it. The scale lengths of this homemade guitar turned out almost the same as on a regular guitar, so I tuned the strings to open E tuning (thick string - E note, thin – B note). So two open strings create an E5 (E power chord), both fingers on the first fret create an F5, on the third fret - G5, etc.
My goal was to make this guitar so that it still looked like a tennis racket, so it came out like a headless electric guitar. In this DIY project I used only basic, very simple items, therefore, I think that this recycling project can be called Trash to Treasure.
As a base, I took an old Ukrainian wooden racket called "Юність" (Yunist), which means "Youth" in Ukrainian. I used a 40-centimeter (about 15,75 inches) wooden ruler as a fretboard (fingerboard) and half of a nail as a nut. I made a base for guitar tuning pegs and bridge from a piece of old wooden board. Two self-tapping screws guide two strings (I used two thickest guitar strings) to the bridge that I made from pieces of ruler and the second half of the nail. I also used the cheapest single pickup (about $4) that attaches to a piece of ruler. And my favorite part of this project – jack output. I attached a plastic "capsule" from Kinder Surprise to the pieces of wooden board and ruler, and I placed an output jack in this capsule. And I covered this construction with a cut-up tennis ball.
