Smash TV Arcade Machine: Complete & Restored! Scarlet Sprites 2021-11-22 | On the tail end of my Konami arcade machine restore I began working on the Williams Smash TV cabinet that I picked up at auction. While this didn't require major work on the sides of the machine there was a fair amount of painting, rewiring, cleaning, and control panel work involved. I'm proud to say that this one has been saved and returned to former glory. GI Joe Arcade Machine - Revved Up Restore! Scarlet Sprites 2021-11-05 | Well here it is, the single speaker Konami arcade cabinet that spent it's life as an X-Men, NBA Jam Tournament Edition, and then Fisherman's Bait has finally had its dignity restored. I spent a few weeks working on this over the summer and it's finally completed. A lot has happened here and I'll inevitably forget some details but I'll offer some highlights. The entire cabinet was stripped, sanded and cleaned. Bondo was used to fill holes and the cabinet was sanded and repainted. The CRT was pulled, cleaned, and washed. The monitor chassis was cleaned recapped and given a new flyback. The sides of the cabinet were laminated and given new artwork. The entire control panel was replaced and I added in Wico reproduction sticks and Rollie Leaf switch buttons. Since the game has no freeplay mode I added credit buttons for each of the four players in the coin returns (no drilling or irreversible damage to any parts). The game operates fully off of orginal hardware with GI Joe, Simpsons, TMNT, and Sunsetriders boards installed. No software emulation to be found anywhere, this is the real deal. Smash TV Arcade Machine Comes Home! Scarlet Sprites 2021-08-31 | Is this maybe the last great twin stick arcade game? Smash TV was a success when it hit arcades in 1990. Crafted by legendary talents Eugene Jarvis and Mark Turmell, it serves as a pseudo sequel to Jarvis's earlier Robotron title from 1982. Smash TV dished up a lot of violence and multiplayer mayhem for its day and was eventually ported to Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and somewhat surprisingly the NES. While the ports were fantastic at the time I've often thought it would be amazing to have Midway's twin stick shooter in all its original arcade machine glory in my basement arcade.
