detective pikachu is one of the protagonists of detective pikachu and the movie of the same name. he is capable of speaking human languages. detective pikachu was once an ordinary pikachu belonging to harry goodman, a detective who works at ryme city detective agency. while on a case, harry and pikachu met with a car accident where harry goes missing and pikachu gains amnesia while also mysteriously gaining the ability to act and speak like a human. two months after the accident, he meets tim goodman sometime after tim arrives in ryme city. together with tim and the ryme city detective agency, pikachu solves puzzles and mysteries. in addition to his ability to talk, detective pikachu displays a number of human traits. he likes drinking coffee and tea and is easily infatuated with attractive human women. detective pikachu appears to have sacrificed most of his abilities as a pikachu. as such, he is not very fast. however, as a talking pokémon, he can interpret and translate testimony from other pokémon.

rock paper scissors (also known by several other names and word orders, see § names) is an intransitive hand game, usually played between two people, in which each player simultaneously forms one of three shapes with an outstretched hand. these shapes are "rock" (a closed fist), "paper" (a flat hand), and "scissors" (a fist with the index finger and middle finger extended, forming a v). the earliest form of "rock paper scissors"-style game originated in china and was subsequently imported into japan, where it reached its modern standardized form, before being spread throughout the world in the early 20th century. a simultaneous, zero-sum game, it has three possible outcomes: a draw, a win, or a loss. a player who decides to play rock will beat another player who chooses scissors ("rock crushes scissors" or "breaks scissors" or sometimes "blunts scissors"), but will lose to one who has played paper ("paper covers rock"); a play of paper will lose to a play of scissors ("scissors cuts paper"). if both players choose the same shape, the game is tied and is usually replayed to break the tie. rock paper scissors is often used as a fair choosing method between two people, similar to coin flipping, drawing straws, or throwing dice in order to settle a dispute or make an unbiased group decision. unlike truly random selection methods, however, rock paper scissors can be played with some degree of skill by recognizing and exploiting non-random behavior in opponents.

russian roulette (russian: русская рулетка, romanized: russkaya ruletka) is a potentially lethal game of chance in which a player places a single round in a revolver, spins the cylinder, places the muzzle against the head or body (of the opponent or themselves), and pulls the trigger. if the loaded chamber aligns with the barrel, the weapon will fire, killing or severely injuring the player. according to andrew clarke, the first trace of russian roulette can be found in the short story "the fatalist", which was written in 1840 and was part of the collection a hero of our time by mikhail lermontov, a russian poet and writer in the story, which is set in a cossack village, the protagonist, grigory alexandrovich pechorin, claims that there is no predestination and proposes a bet in order to prove it, laying about twenty gold pieces onto a table. a lieutenant of the dragoons of the tsar, vulič, a man of serbian origins with a passion for gambling, accepts the challenge and randomly takes one of a number of pistols of various calibres from its nail, cocks it and pours gunpowder onto the pan. nobody knows if the pistol is loaded or not. "gentlemen! who will pay 20 gold pieces for me?", vulič asks, putting the muzzle of the pistol to his forehead. he then asks grigory to throw a playing card in the air, and when the card lands, he pulls the trigger. the weapon fails to fire, but when vulič cocks the pistol again and aims it at a service cap hanging over the window, a shot rings out and smoke fills the room.

the beast is the main antagonist of over the garden wall. he is the monster of the unknown and is feared throughout it. his goal is to catch the brothers, wirt and gregory, and turn them into edelwood trees in order to fuel his lantern. he has the power to possess other creatures, such as beatrice's dog shown in the very first episode, and "haunts" the inhabitants of the unknown, like adelaide who claimed to be following "the dark voices of the beast." he is the self-proclaimed owner of the woods through which wirt and greg wander, as he says to wirt that greg is going to be "a part of [his] forest." the beast sings a song in an opera style while the woodsman chops wood, as seen in "songs of the dark lantern". another song sung by the beast can be heard in babes in the woods called "come wayward souls".

j robert oppenheimer was an american theoretical physicist and director of the los alamos laboratory during world war ii. he is often credited as the "father of the atomic bomb" for his role in organizing the manhattan project, the research and development undertaking that created the first nuclear weapons. born in new york city to jewish immigrants from germany, oppenheimer earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from harvard university in 1925 and a phd in physics from the university of göttingen in germany in 1927. after research at other institutions, he joined the physics department at the university of california, berkeley, where he became a full professor in 1936. he made significant contributions to theoretical physics, including achievements in quantum mechanics and nuclear physics such as the born–oppenheimer approximation for molecular wave functions, work on the theory of electrons and positrons, the oppenheimer–phillips process in nuclear fusion, and the first prediction of quantum tunneling. with his students, he also made contributions to the theory of neutron stars and black holes, quantum field theory, and the interactions of cosmic rays.

the weighted companion cube (also simply called the companion cube) is a fictional item featured in the portal series of video games by valve corporation. initially featured in a single level of the original portal, test chamber 17, as one of aperture science's ubiquitous weighted storage cubes with heart symbols printed on the outside, it is given to the game's main character, chell, as part of the antagonist glados's sinister testing initiative. after carrying it through the entire level and ostensibly anthropomorphizing and "bonding" with the cube, the malevolent ai forces her to unceremoniously dispose of it in an incinerator device. companion cubes later re-appear in the game's sequel with a slightly different design. the original companion cube is shown to have survived the events of both portal and portal 2, appearing as part of an ending gag. while glados has suggested the companion cube may be sentient, it is unclear whether this was solely to psychologically torment chell. however, in the comic portal 2: lab rat, doug rattman's companion cube is shown speaking to him, possibly as part of a schizophrenic hallucination. following the game's release, the weighted companion cube quickly increased in popularity among fans, spawning a wide array of official merchandise and fan works. it has since become a mascot for valve's games, and has also been referenced in other, unrelated games as easter eggs.

fall guys (formerly known as fall guys: ultimate knockout) is a free-to-play platform battle royale game developed by mediatonic. the game involves up to 60 players who control jellybean-like creatures and compete against each other in a series of randomly selected mini-games, such as obstacle courses or tag. players are eliminated as the rounds progress until, eventually, the last remaining player is crowned the winner. the game draws inspiration from game shows like takeshi's castle, it's a knockout, wipeout, and playground games like tag and british bulldog. the game was released by devolver digital for microsoft windows and playstation 4 on 4 august 2020. following their acquisition of mediatonic, the publishing rights were transferred to epic games. subsequently, the game was made free-to-play on 21 june 2022 and released on additional platforms including nintendo switch, playstation 5, xbox one and xbox series x/s, with full cross-platform play support among all platforms. as part of the transition, the game adapted a seasonal battle pass system for its monetization, offering avatar customizations to players. fall guys received positive reviews from critics for its chaotic gameplay and visual appearance. the game was a commercial success, selling more than 10 million copies and attracting more than 50 million players after the game went free-to-play. since the game's launch, mediatonic has released numerous updates for the game. the ninth and current season is underwater themed.

gang beasts is a beat 'em up party game developed and published by british indie studio boneloaf. the title would originally be published by double fine presents until may 2020 and self-published afterwards, while it would later be published in physical form by skybound games the game released for microsoft windows, macos, linux, and playstation 4 on 12 december 2017, following an early access period for the pc platforms that began in august 2014. it was also released on the xbox one on 27 march 2019. gang beasts is a multiplayer beat 'em up party game with gelatinous and floppy characters, melee fight sequences, and hazardous environments, set in the fictional metropolis of beef city. at initial release, it contained eight multiplayer stages, and costume customization. the core gameplay involves using various physical abilities such as punching or kicking an opponent until they are knocked out, and then attempting to toss them over one of the stage hazards. opponents that have been knocked down are not completely defenseless however, as they can fight back to be released. already in its freeware alpha state, as well as upon steam early access release, the game was met with positive response from critics and fans. comments include keith stuart of the guardian calling it "probably one of the silliest beat-'em-ups ever made," jessica conditt from engadget calling it "a jolly good time," and steve hansen from destructoid highlighting how its weirdness plays out well. outside of early access, gang beasts received mixed reviews from critics on both the pc and playstation 4 versions of the game. on metacritic, the game holds a score of 67/100 for the playstation 4 version based on 8 reviews, indicating "mixed or average reviews." the game was nominated for "excellence in multiplayer" at the 2018 sxsw gaming awards, and for "multiplayer" at the 14th british academy games awards.
