Biking up Dreaded Hill in Whiting Ranch, Foothill Ranch CA Codys Off-Road Adventures 2025-05-07 | Taking On Dreaded Hill: A Steep Climb & Epic Views đľââď¸đ Dreaded Hill may not be the toughest hike around, but on a bike, it lives up to its name. From the base of the trail, it's a steep 700-ft ascent about a mile and a halfâenough to get the legs burning. Iâve tackled the downhill before, gripping the brakes the whole way, but climbing up has always been another story. Until today, I have not made it to the top without having to walk part way. Today I made the climb twice. My first time up, I realized I left my GoPro in my Jeep. I figured Iâd just come back tomorrowâbut on the way down, I changed my mind and decided to take on the challenge again. Huffing and puffing, I made it to the top a second time. Say what you want about pedal-assist mountain bikes, but at nearly 60 years old and after three heart surgeries, this is my ride now. Even with my 2022 Specialized Levo SLâlightweight with pedal-only assistâthis climb is no joke. Could I have gone all-out for a $12,000+ ultralight bike with advanced gears? Maybe. But as a Jeep owner, we all know what that means⌠Iâm broke. At the summit, the reward is unbeatableâa panoramic view of Whiting Ranch, stretching all the way to the coast and Catalina Island on a clear day.
