Webinar: Introducing New Guidance for the Title 17 Clean Energy Financing Program U.S. Department of Energy 2023-06-12 | *The new Title 17 Clean Energy Financing Program guidance* updates project eligibility, application requirements, and evaluation criteria, consolidating several existing solicitations into one easy-to-read document. Notably, the updated guidance also incorporates new authorities established by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) in 2021 and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in 2022, including new Energy Infrastructure Reinvestment (EIR, Section 1706) authority and a new category of financing under the existing section 1703 program for projects supported by a State Energy Financing Institution (SEFI).Under the Title 17 Clean Energy Financing Program, LPO can finance projects in the United States that support clean energy deployment and energy infrastructure reinvestment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. Title 17 was created by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and has since been amended, most recently by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in 2021 and the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. Meet Vogtle Unit 3 - The Newest Reactor in the United States U.S. Department of Energy 2023-05-26 | Vogtle Unit 3 in Waynesboro, Georgia is the newest reactor in the United States. It’s the first new reactor to connect to the grid since 2016. Unit 3 uses AP1000 technology developed by Westinghouse. It houses advanced safety systems that can automatically shut the reactor down without operator action or an external power source for 72 hours. It also uses less pipes, valves, pumps and has a significantly smaller footprint than current reactors leading to less maintenance. Unit 3 will provide more than 1,100 megawatts of clean power when it enters into service later this summer. Unit 4 is expected to come online later this year. Both reactors received approximately $12 billion in loan guarantees through the U.S. Department of Energy Loan Programs Office to help usher in a new era of nuclear power.
