Bearded Builds Co
Co2 Lens removal and cleaning on your OMTech laser
updated
You’ll see how I safely clean mirror #1, mirror #2, the laser head mirror, and the lens using 99% isopropyl alcohol and lint-free swabs — plus the simple routine I follow to avoid power loss, burn marks, and poor engraving results.
This step-by-step laser maintenance guide will help you:
✅ Clean your laser mirrors and lens safely
✅ Prevent smoke buildup and debris from reducing power
✅ Know which direction to clean (and why you should avoid circular motions)
✅ Reassemble your laser head correctly (flat side of the lens faces down!)
✅ Keep your laser cutting crisp and clean day after day
Whether you run a Hydra 13, OneLaser X-Series, or any other CO₂ gantry laser, this cleaning routine will extend the life of your optics and give you consistent results.

What you’ll learn in this video:
How to spot problem cuts caused by knots or glue streaks
Why you shouldn’t move your project or laser head until the fix is ready
Step-by-step tutorial on using Cut Shapes in LightBurn
How to isolate specific sections of your design for re-cutting
Saving time and material by only cutting what’s needed
👉 If you’ve ever run into issues with plywood, MDF, or other materials not cutting all the way through, this video will help you troubleshoot and save your projects.

We’ll cover everything you need to know — from bypassing the stock solenoid, wiring the relays into the controller, routing airlines, and setting up regulators, to dialing in your PSI levels for low-flow engraving and high-flow cutting. I’ll also show how to integrate air assist controls directly into LightBurn, so toggling air on/off in your layer settings automatically switches between low and high flow.
What you’ll learn in this video:
Why a compressor air assist is better than stock pumps for cutting
Full installation of the Hydra air assist module (airlines, relays, wiring)
How to bypass the stock solenoid and properly connect airlines
Setting up PSI with dual regulators for engraving vs cutting
How LightBurn automatically controls high vs low airflow
Tips for clean cuts, less char, and safer operation
👉 If you’re running a Hydra or any CO₂ laser, upgrading to a compressor air assist is one of the best improvements you can make for performance and cut quality.

Increasing the air flow makes your cuts more efficient leaving you with a cleaner top surface saving you time in your finish work. You also have the ability to control the air flow and reduce down to a trickle of air when engraving so that you are not pushing soot into your fresh engraving.

First off, I purchased this printer, and it was not supplied to me for a review. The purpose of this printer for me is to create jigs for my Laser projects and random things around the house.
From unboxed to print it was probably about 30 minutes and most of that was waiting for the first calibrations to take place. All in all I love the enclosure, the bed size, and of course the speed of the printer. After doing my first handful of prints I would recommend this printer to anybody that is in a similar situation to me.
