Battle Factory's special trick is that you aren't allowed to use your own Pokémon here. Instead, you battle using a set of three rental Pokémon. After each successful battle, you have the option to swap one of your Pokémon with one of those used by your previous opponent. Before each battle, you will be provided clues of your opponent's team, although the clues get more and more vague the further you get.
One series consists of seven battles. You must win seven series, 49 battles in total, to battle Thorton for the second time.
Since Thorton uses rental Pokémon, just like you, his team is completely unpredictable. Just try to assemble a team that has a lot of variety and power, and go for it!
Defeating Thorton for the second time will earn you the Gold Factory Print and 20 Battle Points.

Battle Hall's special trick is that you may only use one of your Pokémon in all of your battles. If you were to choose another Pokémon, you must start a new row. Before each battle, you will choose what type of Pokémon you want to battle. Each type has ten Trainers, each stronger than the one before. All Trainers here use only one Pokémon each. Once all Trainers of a certain type have been beaten, that type can't be chosen anymore.
You must fully clear every type, 170 battles in total, to battle Argenta for the second time
.
Argenta's Pokémon is completely random, and you cannot choose its type, unlike with the other Trainers in this facility. Just pick a Pokémon that has a lot of variety and go for it!
Defeating Argenta for the second time will earn you the Gold Hall Print and 20 Battle Points.

After defeating Steven, I originally intended to stop the game there, but my desire for completing the game drove me to completing the Battle Frontier and Gym Leader rematches in February-March 2015.
Once you've entered the Hall of Fame for the first time, you'll be able to challenge the Gym Leaders into rematches at their respective Gyms. When the rematch symbol appears next to the Gym Leader's name in your PokéNav, you'll be able to rebattle them. Once you've beaten all Gym Leaders in a rematch, another cycle will start over. You will be able to have a total of four rematches against each Gym Leader, their teams growing stronger each time.

After defeating Steven, I originally intended to stop the game there, but my desire for completing the game drove me to completing the Battle Frontier and Gym Leader rematches in February-March 2015.

After defeating Steven, I originally intended to stop the game there, but my desire for completing the game drove me to completing the Battle Frontier and Gym Leader rematches in February-March 2015.
In order to face Brandon, you must clear the Battle Pyramid ten times in a row, with seven floors to go through each time.
Brandon's Pokémon in the Gold Symbol battle are Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.
Articuno is holding the item Scope Lens, has the Ability Pressure, and knows the move Blizzard, Water Pulse, Aerial Ace, and Reflect. With Scope Lens, Articuno has a good chance of landing a critical hit on your Pokémon. Fire, Steel, Electric, and especially Rock are all good types to combat this thing.
Zapdos is holding the item Lum Berry, has the Ability Pressure, and knows the moves Thunder, Drill Peck, Light Screen, and Detect. With its nice Special Attack, Zapdos can prove a tough target to beat, unless your Pokémon happens to be a highly defensive Ground-type. But even without one, defeating this legendary Pokémon should be managed with good Rock or Ice attacks.
Moltres is holding the item BrightPowder, has the Ability Pressure, and knows the moves Fire Blast, Hyper Beam, Aerial Ace, and Safeguard. Even though Moltres has high Special Attack, Fire Blast only has 5 PP, so if you have a Pokémon with high Defense in your team, Hyper Beam and Aerial Ace shouldn't be much of a threat. Moltres's biggest weakness is Rock, but Electric and Water moves work well too. In case you're going for a status ailment move like Toxic or Thunder Wave, mind the Safeguard.
Defeating Brandon for the second time will earn you the Gold Brave Symbol and 19 Battle Points.

PPPS. This marks the end of my Battle Frontier challenge. However, I'm still intending to post my remaining Gym Leader rematch videos, so be waiting for those.
After defeating Steven, I originally intended to stop the game there, but my desire for completing the game drove me to completing the Battle Frontier and Gym Leader rematches in February-March 2015.
In order to face Anabel again, you must win ten series of battles, seven battles each, 70 battles in total (excluding the battle with Anabel), in a row at the Battle Tower.
Anabel's Pokémon in the Gold Symbol battle are Raikou, Latios, and Snorlax.
Raikou is holding the item Lum Berry, has the Ability Pressure, and knows the moves Thunderbolt, Calm Mind, Reflect, and Rest. Possessing notable Special Attack, Raikou can be a dangerous opponent. Reflect can also render its biggest weakness, Ground-type moves, into half their normal power while in effect. Rest also allows Raikou to restore its health whenever it gets weak, and Lum Berry can not only let it have one heal for free but also potentially protect it from other status ailments just once. However, since its only offensive move is Electric-type, a Ground should be able to take it down eventually, especially if it has Brick Break to destroy Reflect. Just remember the PP cost caused by Pressure.
Latios is holding the item BrightPowder, has the Ability Levitate, and knows the moves Psychic, Dragon Claw, Calm Mind, and Recover. Being well-balanced in attack, defense, and recovery, Latios can be a very difficult opponent to take down. Use Dragon, Ice, Dark, Bug, or Ghost moves to deal as much damage as possible.
Snorlax is holding the item Chesto Berry, has the Ability Thick Fat or Immunity, and knows the moves Return, Curse, Shadow Ball, and Rest. With its massive HP and notable defensive stats, it can be a real pain to take down, especially as it has only one weakness and can boost its Defense with Curse. Return, being a high-power STAB move, is also a thing to be careful of. And with Shadow Ball, Ghost-types aren't safe either. Be careful.
Defeating Anabel for the second time will earn you the Gold Ability Symbol and 20 Battle Points.

After defeating Steven, I originally intended to stop the game there, but my desire for completing the game drove me to completing the Battle Frontier and Gym Leader rematches in February-March 2015.
In order to face Tucker again, you must win ten rounds of battles, four battles each, 40 battles in total (excluding the battle with Tucker), in a row at the Battle Dome.
Tucker's Pokémon in the Gold Symbol battle are Swampert, Latias, and Metagross. Of the three, two are used per battle.
Swampert is holding the item Leftovers, has the Ability Torrent, and knows the moves Surf, Ice Beam, Earthquake, and Mirror Coat. Due to its sole weakness being Grass, plus the fact that Tucker almost always leads with this Pokémon, choose a Grass-type attacker as the first Pokémon in your team. Just be careful not to leave it on low HP when attacking, or Mirror Coat may hurt badly.
Latias is holding the item Chesto Berry, has the Ability Levitate, and knows the moves Psychic, Thunderbolt, Calm Mind, and Rest. This legendary Pokémon is highly offensive in Special Attack, a trait that it may make even more dangerous with Calm Mind. Strong physical attacks are the best ways to deal with Latias. Being Psychic and Dragon type, it is weak against Dragon, Ice, Bug, Dark, and Ghost moves. Attacks like Shadow Ball and Megahorn are good options to use, given the fact that Calm Mind may render Special-based attacks pretty much useless.
Metagross is holding the item Quick Claw, has the Ability Clear Body, and knows the moves Psychic, Earthquake, Meteor Mash, and Protect. With its hard Defense, this pseudo-legendary can be very difficult to take down. It also possesses notable attacking power, especially Physical, making Earthquake and Meteor Mash very dangerous moves. Use Fire- or Ground-type moves to dispose of this thing before it can KO your Pokémon.
Defeating Tucker for the second time will earn you the Gold Tactics Symbol and 15 Battle Points.

After defeating Steven, I originally intended to stop the game there, but my desire for completing the game drove me to completing the Battle Frontier and Gym Leader rematches in February-March 2015.
In order to face Spenser, you must win three series of battles, seven battles each, 21 battles in total (excluding the battle with Spenser), in a row at the Battle Palace.
Spenser's Pokémon in the Gold Symbol battle are Arcanine, Slaking, and Suicune.
Arcanine is holding the item White Herb, has the Ability Intimidate or Flash Fire, and knows the moves Overheat, Protect, Roar, and ExtremeSpeed. With White Herb, Arcanine can fire two very powerful Overheats, and ExtremeSpeed can be used as a finishing move. A Water, Rock, or Ground Pokémon would be a best choice to put up against this beast.
Slaking is holding the item Scope Lens, had the Ability Truant, and knows the moves Hyper Beam, Shadow Ball, Earthquake, and Yawn. With its massive attacking power, all of Slaking's attacks can deal devastating damage. Even more so if a Scope Lens-assisted critical hit happens. Truant immobilizes Slaking for every other turn, a weakness it may try to overcome by putting your Pokémon asleep with Yawn. Due to Slaking's Normal-typing, a Fighting Pokémon is the optimal choice to use against it.
Suicune is holding the item King's Rock, has the Ability Pressure, and knows the moves Surf, Bite, Blizzard, and Calm Mind. With the Special Attack and Special Defense boost from Calm Mind, this legendary beast can deal massive damage on your Pokémon. As its held item is King's Rock, your Pokémon are also at a constant danger of flinching and losing a turn to attack. Use Electric and/or Grass moves to defeat this legendary Pokémon as quickly as possible.
A special feature at the Battle Palace is that you cannot choose what moves your Pokémon is going to use, but it all depends on the Pokémon's Nature. Some Natures may even prevent a Pokémon from attacking during certain battle situations.
Defeating Spenser for the second time will earn you the Gold Spirits Symbol and 16 Battle Points.

After defeating Steven, I originally intended to stop the game there, but my desire for completing the game drove me to completing the Battle Frontier and Gym Leader rematches in February-March 2015.
In order to face Greta again, you must win 56 battles in total (not necessarily in a row) at the Battle Arena.
Greta's Pokémon in the Silver Symbol battle are Umbreon, Gengar, and Breloom.
Umbreon is holding the item Chesto Berry, has the Ability Synchronize, and knows the moves Double-Edge, Confuse Ray, Psychic, and Rest. Even though Double-Edge causes recoil damage, Rest can heal all that damage in one turn unless Umbreon is defeated in three turns. Fighting and Bug moves are your best bet against this rather defensive Eeveelution.
Gengar is holding the item Leftovers, has the Ability Levitate, and knows the moves Psychic, Hypnosis, Dream Eater, and Destiny Bond. With its good arsenal of moves, Gengar is easily able to steal your points in the three turns you have to defeat it. Also watch out for Destiny Bond: should Gengar get low on health, it may try to take your Pokémon down with itself.
Breloom is holding the item Lum Berry, has the Ability Effect Spore, and knows the moves Focus Punch, Spore, Giga Drain, and Headbutt. With Spore's 100% accuracy, make sure your Pokémon either counter sleep or defeat Breloom quickly. Headbutt can cause your Pokémon to flinch, Giga Drain restores health, and if your Pokémon is immobilized by Spore, Focus Punch can deal devastating damage if not distrupted. Breloom's attacking power may be formidable, but a good Flying, Psychic, or Fire attack should easily be able to take it down.
At the Battle Arena, after every three turns into a battle between two certain Pokémon, each Pokémon receives points in three categories: Mind (using the most offensive moves), Skill (landing the most successful hits on the foe), and Body (the Pokémon with the most HP left). The Pokémon receiving the least points in these three categories (each category is worth two point) will suffer a Technical Knockout (TKO for short) by the referee.
Defeating Greta for the second time will earn you the Gold Guts Symbol and 13 Battle Points.

In order to face Lucy again, you must clear the Battle Pike ten times in a row, with seven rooms to go through each time.
Lucy's Pokémon in the Gold Symbol battle are Seviper, Steelix, and Gyarados.
Seviper is holding the item Quick Claw, has the Ability Shed Skin, and knows the moves Sludge Bomb, Giga Drain, Crunch, and Swagger. It isn't too defensive, so use strong Psychic- or Ground-type moves to deal with it AQAP.
Steelix is holding the item BrightPowder, has the Ability Rock Head or Sturdy, and knows the moves Earthquake, Rock Slide, Screech, and Explosion. Due to Steelix's Special Defense being weaker than its Defense, Fire and Water attacks are your best options against this Steel Snake. Try knocking it out quickly, before it gets the chance to use Explosion.
Gyarados is holding the item Chesto Berry, has the Ability Intimidate, and knows the moves Return, Dragon Dance, Rest, and Roar. With Dragon Dance-boosted Return, this thing can pretty much destroy any Pokémon without resistance/immunity to Normal-type moves and/or very high Defense, and with Rest, it can heal itself if wounded. As always with a Gyarados, Electric is the best option to use against it, but Rock moves work just fine too.
Defeating Lucy for the second time will earn you the Gold Knowledge Symbol and 18 Battle Points.

PPPS. I admit, I did goof off a bit while dealing with Gyarados. I accidentally sent out the wrong Pokémon, if I recall correctly, and tried to freeze it, but then pulled back and dealt with the thing before it was done powering up. Luckily. But hey, that's the main theme of the place, right?

In order to face Noland again, you must win six series of battles, seven battles each, 42 battles in total in a row at the Battle Factory.
Since Noland, like you, will be using a team of rental Pokémon, it is impossible to tell which Pokémon he will use against you beforehand. Just try to rent as diverse team as possible for yourself.
Defeating Noland for the second time will earn you the Gold Knowledge Symbol and 15 Battle Points.

After you've entered the Hall of Fame for the first time, a new entrance opens at the top of the Meteor Falls (located between Fallarbor Town and Rustboro City), revealing a new chamber, where Steven can be now found. However, his team consists of Pokémon with levels ranging from 75 to 78, so you will have to train a bit before you'll be able to stand a chance against him. When you feel like you're ready to take on the ex-Champion of Hoenn, make sure you have Pokémon with Surf and Waterfall in your team, make your way to the top of the Meteor Falls, and prepare yourself for one of the toughest battles in the entire game!
Steven's first Pokémon is his level 77 Skarmory, a Steel/Flying-type with the Ability Keen Eye and the moves Aerial Ace, Steel Wing, Spikes, and Toxic. Due to its type combination, its only weaknesses are Electric and Fire. Its Special Defense isn't too high, though, so exploiting these weaknesses should serve you an easy victory over this Armor Bird Pokémon.
Up next is a level 76 Cradily, a Rock/Grass-type Pokémon with the Ability Suction Cups and the moves Sludge Bomb, Giga Drain, Ingrain, and Confuse Ray. This Barnacle Pokémon is a major staller, finding numerous ways of regaining its lost health while dealing damage on you. Its typing, however, gives it several major weaknesses, which are Ice, Fighting, Steel, and Bug. A Steel-type would be a perfect counter against it, both offensively and defensively.
Steven's Claydol is a level 75 Ground/Psychic-type Pokémon with the Ability Levitate and the moves Earthquake, AncientPower, Light Screen, and Reflect. This thing is mainly a defensive wall, typically setting up two protective barriers to significantly reduce the power of your attacks. In case you want to avoid these annoyances from lingering on to protect Steven's other Pokémon, the move Brick Break is very good to have: even though it won't do much damage on Claydol, it will get rid of the defensive walls for you. Type-wise, Claydol's typing gives it a whole bunch of weaknesses to exploit: Grass, Water, Ice, Bug, Dark, and Ghost moves are all super effective against it.
The next Pokémon on Steven's roster is a level 76 Armaldo, a yet another fossil Pokémon. It is a Rock/Bug-type, has the Ability Battle Armor, and knows the moves AncientPower, Slash, Water Pulse, and Aerial Ace. Its moveset gives it a lot of type coverage, so mind that. Special-based attacks are your best bets against it, due to its Defense being higher than its Special Defense. It has a few type weaknesses, which include Water, Fighting, and Steel. Since the two first ones are rather common types, they should be rather useful.
Steven's next Pokémon is his level 76 Aggron, a Steel/Rock-type with the Ability Sturdy and the moves Earthquake, Dragon Claw, SolarBeam, and Thunder. This Iron Armor Pokémon has a very high Defense and a reasonable Attack, but its poor Special Attack makes its three last moves not so threatening like they first might seem. Its weaknesses are Fighting, Ground, and Water. As the first two ones are 4x weaknesses, and the last one can exploit Aggron's weak Special Defense, all three types are good options to be used against this Pokémon.
Steven main Pokémon and powerhouse is his level 78 Metagross. It is a Steel/Psychic-type holding a Sitrus Berry, having the Ability Clear Body, and knowing the moves Psychic, Meteor Mash, Earthquake, and Shadow Ball. Its typing covers its weaknesses surprisingly well, leaving it only weak against Fire- and Ground-type attacks. This fact, combined with its thought-out moveset and well-balanced stats, which mainly focus on Attack and Defense, makes Metagross a force to be reckoned with. Due to its Special Defense being notably lower than its Defense, Fire attacks are your best bets against this tank, even though Earthquake might easily prove troublesome against almost any Fire-type Pokémon.
After being defeated, Steven shows his obvious surprise of you having become strong enough to defeat him, and wonders where your journey will take you next.
EDIT: I originally planned this to be the end of my Emerald walkthrough, but I decided to finish up the Gym Leader rematches and do the Frontier Brain Gold Symbol battles, so be expecting those.
