We Need to Talk about YouTubers Being Sponsored by Bad Companies (HelloFresh + Better Help) The Kavernacle 2024-02-01 | Edit: Did a follow up video to respond to people's criticism and comments: youtu.be/Pc6nVVippMYYouTube Sponsorships - we all love them. Us the creators love the money, you the viewer love supporting your fav creator and sitting through an ad for a water bottle flavour thing you'd never buy. Many YouTubers rely on sponsors for their income, especially those who upload more infrequently. There is no ethical consumption under capitalism but does that mean its all fair game? Many YouTubers have long term sponsorships with objectively terrible companies. For someone like me its impossible to dissociate HelloFresh from Kurtis Conner, or BetterHelo from Easy Allies. They essentially become company mascots perhaps unintentionally. When a company is explicitly bad, I don't think its too much to ask that they don't advertise for these companies. Gen Z are SICK of Celebrities Supporting Israel (Social Media BLOCKLIST) The Kavernacle 2024-05-15 | The Met Gala 2024 was at the start of the month, where the most famous Western celebrities all dressed up in outfits that resembled something out of The Hunger Games films. At the same time footage continued to pour out of Palestine about the brutal conditions faced their due to western support for Israel. 99% of Celebrities have either supported Israel or have shown pretty much apathy to the whole situation. The Met Gala was the spark that caused TikTok campaigns to block lists of celebrities they deemed guilty, with the goal of minimising impression to impact their social media revenue and data to help them get brand deals. While people might not take the campaign seriously, I personally like it for just educating people on how domestic wealth and the US foreign policy are part of the same problem. The e-commerce site allows users to bypass Western storefronts and chains and buy Chinese consumer goods directly from the source for extremely cheap prices. Temu's marketing relies on users inviting their friends and promises people free items if enough people sign up using their code. Why YouTube is so TERRIBLE now (Asmongold, xQc and bad content) The Kavernacle 2024-03-20 | YouTube has a near monopoly on long form video content and is home to many wonderful creators who put so much effort into making well though out and carefully edited content. And then you have the parasite streamers who not only use this content to pad out their own low effort stream, but then upload their reactions to YouTube to directly compete with the original video and in some cases surpass it. Elon Musk FINALLY Made me QUIT Twitter (After 13 Years) The Kavernacle 2024-03-13 | I'm pretty sure I have used Twitter nearly every day since late 2011 (yes I know technically 12 and a bit years doesn't look as nice in a title though does it?). Since 2017 when I started my YouTube channel Twitter account I have been far more addicted to it and its by far my most used social media app. After Elon took over the site and immediately made it far worse - I was still committed to go down with the ship. If there was going to be one last twitter user, I would be it... Well until last Sunday where I just decided I had enough. Elon is the final nail in the coffin, but Twitter at its core is a super toxic platform built on trolling and never ending social media battles.
