Undertale - Home (lyric cover by Josiah Everhart)
updated
Earlier this year I started a band called OrcaMind along with fellow VGM alumni, @michelleheafy. I've been putting all of my musical focus into the band which is why I haven't been active here on my own channel. We're writing/recording/producing our own original music and if you haven't seen it yet you can find it on Michelle's channel (youtube.com/user/michelleheafy). We've been putting out singles throughout the year and finally just released everything as an EP on Christmas Eve!
If you enjoyed Yearn in Years, you'll be pleased to know that our EP's opening track is a brand new version of Dead Moons! We enlisted @donutdrums to add some real drums to the track and created new vocal harmonies for it. We just put out a music video for it here: youtu.be/pXk8kafP6Gk
In addition to producing our own music, we stream ourselves performing music (original music and VGM covers) live on twitch 5 days-a-week. You can find us at twitch.tv/michelleheafy/. I'm rediscovering my love for performance via twitch and by playing live shows around town here. I'm playing on real stages again and it's been so gratifying performing for real people haha.
I tend to be pretty active on instagram so consider following me over there for more updates on music and shows. Who knows; we might be playing in your area soon!

hi hey hello. it's nice to see you. hope you're doing well.
This is a little passion project that I've had on the back burner for a while now. I had to shelve it because of other priorities, but dusted it off finally.
Back in March 2019, I bought an ultralight airplane. Getting into aviation was something I wanted to do since I was a kid and the idea of buying an ultralight had been in the back of my mind for years. So I finally went through with it. I was going to put it together and simply take off out of a cow field near my house, but thankfully a friend of a friend introduced me to some pilots based out of the local municipal airport and they showed me the ropes. One of them was trained in Quicksilver ultralights (mine is a Quicksilver MXL) and he took me under his wing (heh) and prevented me from injuring myself via going for it with no training.
Turns out it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and flying is truly one of the greatest joys in my life. I even met a CFI (certified flight instructor) through my pilot friends and am currently about half way through getting my pilot’s license! (you don’t need a license to fly ultralights, but do for larger aircraft).
All the clips in this video are from 2019 shot with my GoPro Hero 7. I was just going to put a supercut together for my own viewing pleasure, but I started fooling around with composing a piece of music to go with the footage. The result was this track that I’m calling ‘pilot’. I tried to capture what it feels like to fly; the nerves, the adrenaline, the strange sense of peace one gets when soaring. It’s a bit more cerebral if you listen with headphones. Everything but the drums was recorded using my Korg DW-8000.
I have a secret 2nd channel that I’ve been quietly uploading stuff on (youtube.com/channel/UCrxxW9LKiwsg6VK5M1o6ifQ). It’s not super active atm, but I do plan on doing future aviation stuff there. There are some older clips of me flying around, if that interests you. I also post flying clips on my instagram from time to time so follow me there too.
I feel it’s my civic duty as a pilot to tell you that if flying is something that interests you, then please look into getting started. I wish someone would have told me to do it ten years ago. I don’t recommend going the route I did and spontaneously buying a plane, but you can go to almost any airport and find pilots that will take you on a free discovery flight so you can see what it’s like to fly. The aviation community is the most supportive and inclusive group of people you’ll ever find and they love to see new people getting involved. I always thought it was impossible for me to do because of the cost, but it’s not as unattainable as you might think. Plus, it doesn’t cost anything to have someone simply take you up in their plane and I guarantee there’s someone at your local airport that would love to. If you have any questions about any of this, ask in the comments and I’ll respond.
Other than that, I’m still working on other music stuff. I’ve been doing some collabs with Michelle Heafy over on her channel. We made a cover of Ballad of the Windfish and wrote original lyrics for it. I’m deep into writing songs for the next album. I have about ten songs laid out, but there’s still a lot to do. Hopefully will have that out next year some time. I also have some ideas for new lyric covers stewing.
Anyhoo, thanks for indulging me on this track that's a bit different that what you expect from me and letting me gush about flying. I’ll see you up there.

It's been entire years since I made a new VGM lyric cover. Four years to be exact. Obama was still president wtf... Sheik's theme was the last one (not counting Corridors of Time redux in 2017). And here I am on your doorstep again, trying to make you feel sad for a fictional, anthropomorphic fox named Fox.
So I guess I haven't really said this publicly before, but Star Fox is one of my favorite video game franchises ever and I've *always* wanted to do a song from the series. SF64 was such a huge game for me and I think the whole world/story of that game and the SNES version is just so cool and has so much potential. The characters have tons of depth and camaraderie and you as a player inevitably develop such strong bond with them. It kills me that Nintendo has let the series lapse. Thankfully we have talented folks like @AFoxinSpace out there that believe in it. When I was a lad, Star Fox got me interested in aviation which led to me becoming a pilot later in life. I could go on about it for ages.
I first conceived of this cover/lyrics way back in 2015, but shelved it. I knew I wanted it to be centered around Fox reconciling the loss of his father. Fox is depicted as a strong leader to his team, but we don't see him awake at night with the radio on hoping his father's voice will once again come through the speaker. I thought it was an interesting (and depressing lmao) theme to explore. The menu music from SF64 is the literal embodiment of bittersweet nostalgia so I thought it fitting to set these words to.
I used my good ol' Yamaha DX7 for the synths on this (not a plugin, the real deal!) and my Fender P-bass. I also have been experimenting with a VST called "chipsynth SFC" lately and used it to get sounds straight out of SF SNES for the background arpeggios. Overall, I'm happy with how this song came out. I tried to be experimental with the video and break loose from my usual style a bit. You may notice that the take I used for the vocals is all one consistent shot with no cuts or shots of instruments. Not sure what prompted me to do this, but I think it works.
No clue what I'm doing next, but if I can continue to come up with new ideas for vgm covers, you may see more from me in this style! Hopefully it won't be another 4 years.
Special thanks to @Amie Waters and @RichaadEB for mix feedback on this.

Lyrics:
I'm on my way home to you
I feel like time is running out
And you're the only thing I'm thinking about
Every heartbeat was for you
I feel my blood is running thin
Pull me close and feel my pulse again
You've been gone for twelve years
Cured me of what I fear
From out here the view's so clear, my dear
Now turn around and pull me near
I refuse to lose the moons of Jupiter
Means nothing after all
If I'm not here to watch them fall
I'd lose my youth to share the view with her
Just let it pull me in
To the clouds, no oxygen
I found the way on my own
For once my trust is moving me
Just reach out and touch if you believe
I'll count on you to bring me home
It's weird to finally feel this way
And my life's a paltry price to pay
Gravity twice my part
Still could not stop my heart
Like a star from afar, you are
The world cannot pull us apart
I refuse to lose the moons of Jupiter
Means nothing after all
If I'm not here to watch them fall
I'd lose my youth to share the view with her
Just let it pull me in
To the clouds, no oxygen
I refuse to lose the moons of Jupiter
Means nothing after all
If I'm not here to watch them fall
I'd lose my youth to share the view with her
Just let it pull me in
To the clouds, no oxygen

Lyrics:
Nowhere to go, but down
I never thought that I would drown
I feel like a stone tossed in
But I'll never think of you again
Wounds that heal with time
Aren't as deep as mine
Just let go when I cut the line
When you sink down so low
That you think you can't swim out
Hold your breath; you may float
Without
Who says you can't go on?
That it feels like this when you're so far gone?
Well it's just a melody
But I'll pull you out, simple as can be
Wounds that would not heal
Cuts can still be sealed
You don't need me to speak for how you feel
When you sink down so low
That you think you can't swim out
Hold your breath; you may float
Without
If your lungs still hold air
Don't let go and don't be scared
You may find that you'll rise
Without

Lyrics:
Do you feel like someone's calling?
A voice that whispers through the pines
It's like a song you've heard, but you forgot the words
Still afraid of what you'll find
Do you feel like you've been standing
On the wrong flight of stairs?
Do you feel like you're the only one who cares?
It's always on your mind, stays with you all the time
The only ever after you'll find
Through the mirror I can see you
Surprised to find that we're the same
After all your claim was etched in every frame
And we share more than just a name
In time you'll find that there's no answer
No guide to help you on your way
But you know there's nothing anyone can say
It's always on your mind, stays with you all the time
The only ever after you'll find
No one asked me to be here
No one threw me a line
No one told me, "someday you'll realize
That there is no ever after"
The truth is no one will believe you
You're grey, still claiming it's your turn
But I know the song you've heard
And just how much it burns
It's always on your mind, stays with you all the time
The only ever after you'll find

You read my thoughts though I don't know who you are
You heed my words when I don't know what they are

Walk with me, take my hand
I want to know how you've been
Watch the light pour through the trees
It won't be long and you'll see me again
The distance brings us closer anyhow
The distance brings us closer anyhow
The distance brings us closer any-
Anyhow
Try to sleep if you can
Rest your head, ease your woes
'Cause I won't be back this way again
It's not what I want, but that's how it goes
The distance brings us closer anyhow
The distance brings us closer anyhow
The distance brings us closer any-
Anyhow
So go to sleep, my love
Go to sleep

Lyrics:
I thought about you the other day
You showed up in a dream
When was the last time we went out to play?
Now we're getting old it would seem
The hourglass took it all from me
And I just want to go home
If I could ask the lord for anything;
I wish time would leave me alone
I can spin with the world, but I don't want to
I can spin with the world, but I'd choose not to
I can spin with the world, but I don't want to
I can spin with the world, I can spin with the world
And here we go again
Some days are gone and it breaks my heart
Some nights I still hear your voice
Somehow the years tore us apart
Though nobody made that choice
The mirror I'm looking in is full of change
As I count the lines on my face
I'm still around, but I feel so strange
A different time in the same old place
I can spin with the world, but I don't want to
I can spin with the world, but I'd choose not to
I can spin with the world, but I don't want to
I can spin with the world, I can spin with the world
And here we go again-
Ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo oo oo ooo
Oo oo oo oo oo oo oo ooo ooo oo-
I can spin with the world, I can spin with the world
And here we go again

Lyrics:
I should write, I should sing
But instead laid in bed 'til my phone's almost dead
Every morning
Every song, I was so wrong
And I've prayed it's a phase that'll fade when these days
Are all gone
I'm not like myself
I feel like someone else
I've tried to hide from the truth
And it's time that you knew
That I just want to die
Leave me out beside the curb
With all the other trash
It's more than I deserve
I just want to die
Leave me out beside the curb
With all the other trash
It's more than I deserve
Now you know, does it show?
Every glance has a chance to betray an expanse
With no soul
When you laugh and when you cry...
It'd be great to relate to the smiles you'll create
With no lies
Is this the new me?
It's not who I was meant to be
Dooooo oooooo oo oooooo ooooo oo ooo
(And these lyrics are not done)
'Cause I just want to die
Leave me out beside the curb
With all the other trash
It's more than I deserve
I just want to die
Leave me out beside the curb
With all the other trash
It's more than I deserve

Lyrics:
Hey, mister, what's your name?
Write your answer 'cause they need it now
Hey, sister, pass your class
Find the answers and make us all proud
I'm not your judge
So just relax
Don't mind me
Hey, pauper, where's your dream?
Have you lost it or did you put it down?
The prince took it for himself
He won't return it, he's infected by this sound
I'm not strong enough
To catch him now
Not yet
I thought that I knew the way
I've lost it, I've lost it
I'd go, but I don't have the strength
I've lost it, I've lost it
Hey, stranger, how've you been?
I didn't think that I would ever see you again
Come with me and I'll show you
Where it all started before it ever begins

Some would say that seasons won't change
When the sun goes down for the last time
I'm the same, when I saw that you called
Well I let it ring for the last time
It's true you left me behind
And it's true that I didn't want to go anyway
It's true that you change my mind
It's true I can't press rewind
I can't hang, God know that I've tried
But if it's any prize, I never lied
Though I can't stay, I'm glad that you called
But if I don't say goodbye there's always next time
It's true you left me behind
And it's true that I didn't want to go anyway
It's true that you change my mind
It's true I can't press rewind
It's true you can't press rewind

Mainly just did this for fun so don't take it as my triumphant return to making covers, it's just a little beep boop bossa nova that I had a lot of fun putting together.
For those curious; the album is getting very close to being done. It's been in production for nearly two years now and 95% of recording is done as well as about 75% of production. Once those are both at 100%, I just have to send it off to be mastered. It's taken many hundreds of hours of sculpting and shaving but it's very nearly done and I believe the end product is going to blow you away. I ************think************ it'll be out by the end of the year.

Hey, guys. Taking a break from working on my album to share this original track with you.
This was just going to be another solo acoustic song, but I couldn't stop adding stuff to it and it turned into this. I grabbed a studio light and a couple of colored light bulbs and went way up into the forest after dark and got the footage for this video. Not gonna lie; it was spooky af out there.
To me, this song sounds like a combination of the map theme from Mass Effect, "Water Ruin" from Jet Force Gemini with a little splash of Aero the Acrobat 2 thrown in. I made use of my Korg DW-8000 synth that I bought last summer (with the aid of my generous Patreon supporters) and I think it fit into the song well. Overall, I'm really happy with this song/vid.
Still working on my album. I added a few more songs to it so I had to push the release back a bit, but I promise that it will be worth the wait. I'm hoping to have it out by mid-August. Also, I'm going to do another one of those talking videos in the woods very soon to let y'all know what's been going on with my music and stuff so keep an eye out for that.
Anyhoo, thanks for listening. I really hope you guys dig this one.
Looking back, there's a lot of stuff I wish I'd have done differently, mainly production-related things. Most of these songs were thrown together in a week, as to please the YouTube gods, and I feel like most of them were rushed. And at the time I think I was going for a more radio-friendly sound and some things sound too over-produced to me now. I wanted to go back and remaster these, but I realized that most of these songs were created back when I was still using Cubase (before I switched to Reaper) so I don't have a lot of the files any more. I'd have to re-record almost everything, which is something I might do later on in life, but not any time soon. The only one I have intact is Drown Song and I'm planning on overhauling that one and putting it on my new album.

Soooooooooooooooo yeah....
This song wasn't entirely in my comfort zone, but I enjoyed DDLC so much that I simply had to. I was actually going to do it back in January when I first played the game, but the song wasn't quite clicking so I shelved it for a couple months. Originally it was just a straight acoustic and vocal thing, but when I came back to it, I started playing around with some synths and I really like where it went from there.
I found this VST a while back called "Dexed" which is an extremely good (and free) plugin that emulates a Yamaha DX-7. I used it for all of the synths in this song. You can find hundreds of premade patches online so the possibilities are many. I sequenced all of the synth stuff in my DAW and opted not to film myself playing along with it on keyboard 'cause I thought it would be weird since I literally just clicked the notes in.
I purposely changed the lyrics to seem like the song is sung by the player *to* Monika. I was sort of poking fun of the "waifu-ism" (is that a term?) that fans of this game (including me) feel toward the characters. I really liked the idea of "editing" the lyrics to suit my means much the way that Monika does with the game files in the game itself.
Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy this one. I had fun with it.

I hope you guys like sleepy guitar music because I made more sleepy guitar music. I keep doing these so that there's at least SOMETHING keeping a faint pulse on my channel while I'm working on my album. I know most of you folks are here for VGM stuff, but I've been on a tangent lately. I think I'm going to do one of those "walking through the woods" videos soon to update you on the direction my channel and my music are going.
I keep saying the the album is almost done, but it really is this time. They put me on a project at my real job back in early Feb which meant a lot less hours to work on music so I've been quite busy. But things are calming down and I'll have a big chunk of time to hopefully get it done around the end of the month. In the coming weeks I'll do an official announcement and I'll hopefully get it to you guys in the first half of April. I'll be sending out bandcamp download codes to my Patreon supporters when it's ready.
As for "Hemlock", this was one of the more difficult original guitar pieces I've done. That section in the middle where I'm plucking two strings simultaneously was a lot harder than it looks. I'm dubbing that method of picking "Mr. Krabs style". It was fun putting this together though and I especially dig the visuals in this one. It was pretty chilly out and my fingers were freezing, but it was worth it. I did notice, upon reviewing the footage, that my tripod had shifted to the right just a bit in the wide shot so it's slightly off-center. Oh well... The tuning I used for this is and open A major with the low-E string tuned down to D.
Anyways I hope y'all enjoy this and I'll see you soon.

Heya. Sorry my channel's been so quiet lately. Been working hard on finishing up my new album which is taking up all my free time. I needed a break from working on it so I made this.
I think this might be the most "me" video I've ever made? The sleepy guitar, the grey sky, the mossy green path, the resting-bitch-face... Very Josiah. It's just a little riff that I came up with recently that I really liked a lot. I might actually take it a step further some day and write some lyrics for this 'cause I like it so much. No time for that now though, haha.
I recorded the video for this before finishing the song so there're a couple inconsistencies if you look closely. There was a brief break in the rain so I had to take the chance to get this footage. This is one of my easier compositions. If you want to take a crack at it, the tuning is EADGBD with a capo on the third fret covering every string except for the low-E.
My album is getting really close to being done. I need to tweak some lyrics on one song, record a bunch of vocals then mix/master the whole thing. I want to say that it will be out in February some time, but I'm not 100% on that just yet. Like I mentioned before, I'm planning on doing a physical release at some point. When it's done I'll make an announcement video and a week or two after it's released, I'll upload the whole thing to my channel so everyone can hear it. Right now, it's about 25-27 minutes long and the track listing looks something like:
1. Dead Moons
2. Left Me Behind
3. ??? ???? ???? ?????
4. ??? ??????
5. Drown Song
6. ??????
7. ???????
Anyways, I hope you guys are excited for it because I am as heck.
Thanks for indulging me in these original guitar piece videos. I know y'all are here for the VGM covers, but I've been really enjoying getting back into writing music again. More covers will happen in the future, I just want to make sure they're of higher quality. I want them to all be on par with my recent Corridors of Time video. I actually had one planned for this month, but it wasnJU't quiSTe reMOady yNIKAet. Soon, hopefully.
Thanks for sticking around.

Oh, hey, it's been a minute. I'm still alive, just been working on non-youtube stuff over the last couple months so my channel's been quiet.
I thought I'd break the silence with a comfy solo guitar piece that I came up with. Like the last one, it's meant to be a little more on the impromptu side. Been listening to a lot of Tim Follin lately and I think maybe his music influenced some of the chord changes and stuff. Probably should've rehearsed this a bit more, but I knew it would end up on the shelf if I didn't get it finished by the end of this week.
While writing this, I was thinking about snow (or lack thereof) here on the Oregon coast. We rarely get any snowfall to speak of so when it does happen it's really a special and fleeting thing. A lot of times you see snow mixed in the raindrops and I remember praying that it would turn to snow as a kid so school would be canceled.
I went up on Mt. Hebo to film this, which is one of the highest peaks in the area. It had just gotten a light dusting of snow (coincidentally while I was working on this song) so I knew I had to go film up there. It was so freaking cold too, haha. It was extremely difficult for me to play my guitar so you can see some frickups here and there. I also shot all the footage before finishing the song so some things are slightly inconsistent with the video if you look closely.
But yeah, wanted to let you all know that I'm still here, just been busy with other stuff. I worked on more music for PBG's Minecraft Hardcore season 6 in November and have been working really hard on getting an album put together of my original stuff from 2017.
The album is like a mini-ep with four songs from earlier this year plus three new ones. Should be around 20-25 minutes long and I'm hoping to have it out next month some time. I'm also looking into doing a limited physical release through Bandcamp. I'll do a more official announcement video when it's a little closer to release time.
Anyhoo, hope y'all are having happy holidays. I recently started playing The Witcher 3 and can't freaking put it down.

Despite picking up Cuphead on launch day, I'm a bit late to the "cover party". Truth is I was planning on getting this one out weeks ago, but I scrapped it three times because I was unhappy with it. I don't know if it's because it's in a style that I'm not used to or what, but it just wasn't clicking. I tossed it out for the last time right before going to the Portland Retro Gaming Expo a couple weeks ago, but when I got back, decided to give it one last go. Over that weekend I told Mr. RichaadEB that I was scrapping it and he was disappointed and implored me to take another crack at it. So you can thank (or blame?) him.
I think taking a break from it then coming back helped because I like how it turned out in the end. It's amazing how much I toiled over a 45 second song, haha.
The other thing that kept me going was simply how much I love Cuphead and really wanted to do this song. I played the heck out of the game. Beat it on the regular difficulty then immediately went back and played it again on expert. (don't play it on expert)
But yeah, I hope you guys like this little ditty. It's quite a bit shorter than most of my other stuff, but I think it's nice.

So I wanted to try something a bit different this time around. My goal with this video/song was to keep it casual and try to film/record myself kinda just jamming on some riffs that I came up with. It's not intended to be a refined piece of music like a lot of my other stuff. It's supposed to be more like what you might hear me play if I was sitting back on the couch, plucking away at my guitar. I wanted to limit myself to a couple of takes instead of doing a million like I normally would, haha.
I realllly wanted to record and film this live, but I don't have any sort of mobile recording rig (yet). So I just goofed around while playing to a click track then tried to recreate it during filming. As a result there are some little discrepancies here and there in the video.
I think that the riffs that I came up with for this are pretty neat so you may hear me revisit this, condense it down and turn it into a more concentrated piece of music some day. I'm tentatively calling it "Bower's Branch" for now.
But in any case, I hope that y'all enjoy this. If it's something you'd like to see more of let me know and I'll do more of these longer, chill guitar vids to fill out the space between other stuff.

It's been three-and-a-half years since I uploaded my first version of this song. Funny how it feels like only yesterday, but also like a lifetime has passed since then. This is and has always been one of my favorite arrangements/lyric covers that I've ever done, but I've never been too happy with the production on the old one. Whenever someone asks, "what's your favorite cover that you've done?" I'd always say something like, "Corridors of Time, but don't watch it because it's old and bad". Now I have a version that I can be proud of. Plus I think it's cool to see how far I've come as a producer/singer/guy when you juxtapose the new version with the old.
I always associate this cover with meeting my friend RichaadEB for the first time. I remember him showing up in the comments on that video back then and checking out his channel thereafter and being like "fuuuuuk, this guy is good". So when I started working on the redux of this song I knew I had to get him on it. And of course, he slayed his part. If you're familiar with his stuff, you know that he sticks to Prog Metal covers pretty stringently so this was a tad out of his comfort zone. Hmmm, maybe he should play acoustic solos a little more often, eh?? Also, go subscribe to him youtube.com/user/RichaadEB
But anyhoo, I hope you all dig this one. I put many, many hours into it and I personally think it may be the best video I've ever done.
Big thanks to my friend Rachel (twitter.com/thunderesque) for filming the majority of this video and my buddy Matt for helping me get a few extra shots.
Also thanks to tha homie Ryan Lafford for contributing some percussion to this track. He plays a mean Udu and you should subscribe to him too. I recommend his cover of Schala's theme: youtube.com/watch?v=4EUIVtY67TA
Fyi, my channel may be a little quiet over the next month or two because I'm about to dive headfirst into production on my new original album. I have most of the songs demo'd out, just need to start tracking all the instruments and vocals which will take a lot of time. I'll most likely still be uploading stuff, it just might be shorter songs and more spaced out uploads. I'll share updates about the album as soon as I have more to share!

LYRICS
Beyond the shroud
Paradise lies high upon the clouds
Can you hear the sound
Of the voices left on the ground?
Not worthy of a place among the enlightened ones
The curse will be condemned to the earth as the chosen reap the heavens
Oooo ooo ooooooooo oooooo ooo ooo oooooooo
And if you, too
Wield the power of the chosen few
They welcome you
To a place where your dreams come true
But at what cost? Is it worth losing everything?
The price of life lived in paradise is a forlorn future dying

Mmm, so a friend of mine, Zech Frost, suggested I do a cover of this song a while back and I thought it would be fun to do something a little lighter/shorter so here we are. It's a fun little thing to play and I simply don't do enough Pokémon stuff, so I thought it was fitting.
Production-wise, I wanted this cover to have a dreamy sort of feel to it so I drenched it in reverb and played and sang as softly as I possibly could. It was actually kind of hard to play and sing like that, haha. It's difficult hitting those higher notes without putting the breath into it that I normally would. If you listen closely to the original song in the show you'll notice that there's this little section in the middle that I left out of my arrangement. I almost put it in, but I felt like it threw off the vibe of the song (my arranged version that is) so I didn't include it. I also went with the long, "sleepy" transitions because I was imagining this video playing in the background on like Nick Jr. or something, haha. You ever notice how those kids' music shows almost seem to go on autopilot and have really long transitions?
But anyhoo, I hope you dig it. I'll see you soon = )
P.S. I won't be replying to comments for a few days because I'm going camping today with Ace Waters and RichaadEB (LOL). I'll read them when I get back!
P.P.S. I think the composer of this song is Shinji Miyazaki, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yo! So we're doing something a little different this time around. Been working on this little original piece in between other projects and finally got a minute to sit down and record/film it. I decided to pack up the gear and film outside for this one and I reallllly like how the footage turned out. Prolly gonna do it more often. The springtime is just so gosh darn pretty around here.
Not planning on tabbing this one out, but if you want to take a crack at it, the tuning is D A D G B C#.
I'm writing lyrics for a new original song at the moment and might possibly have it out next month some time. Actually been really busy lately working on stuff for the original album. I'm going to do another forest-rambling video very soon and I'll update y'all more about the album then. I'm also thinking about redoing Corridors of Time since the 3-year anniversary was about a week ago. Planning on getting some friends in on it.

So this is my first non-VGM cover on my channel! It most likely won't be the last one I ever do, but will definitely be a rare thing.
If your are not familiar with Mr. Stephen Bruner's (Aka Thundercat) work, he is a virtuoso funk/jazz bassist. I've found myself completely enamored with his music since discovering his song "Them Changes" two summers ago (thanks r/listentothis). He released a new album called "Drunk" back in February and I've listened to it dozens of times. So many tracks on it that I absolutely love. 3AM and Lava Lamp are my favorites. I also had the pleasure of seeing him live last June in Portland, OR and it was an amazing show.
This arrangement was a tricky one to figure out. I had to cheat and use an alternate tuning to make some of the chords work. There are a lot of difficult finger-stretches to get the chords to play nicely with each other, but I think I more or less got it. My goal with this piece was to turn it into something that could be played on a single acoustic guitar (as is the case with most of my covers). If you listen to the original, you can tell that there is a lot more going on. I think he's using 2-3 bass tracks to play all the parts so I ended up omitting a couple of bits. In any case it was quite the challenge, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.
I have no plans to do a tab for this beast, but if you want to take a crack at it, the tuning is CGEFAB.
I hope you enjoy this little break from my normal content. My guess is it won't get a ton of views, but I just gosh darn love this song so much that I had to do it! I'm working on a new original song (with lyrics) and a new original instrumental. Also been kinda kicking around the idea of maybe tackling some anime covers in the future. What do you think about "Lilium" from Elfen Lied? Can't say for sure how I would pull that one off, but it's been on my mind.
See you soon = )

Yes it is, indeed, my fourth cover of the Fairy Fountain theme. To be fair, it IS my favorite piece of Zelda music from the whole series. And when the Breath of the Wild version came dancing daintily through my headphones for the first time, I had no choice but to cover it.
The arrangement, in particular, was really tough for me to nail down and went through several iterations. Forget the crazy piano part with ridiculous polyrhythms in the left hand. The original is so delicate, so fragile and ephemeral that interpreting it was not an easy task. All in all everything finally clicked and I think it turned out nicely.
Most of my time was spent learning that silly piano part. I eventually got it down, but I did decide to record the left and right hands separately because I wanted more control over the piano in the mix. So the video was recorded after the fact. I can play it, though, I swear!!
Then I chose to go with some very light violin to accompany the piano. I used VST so it's definitely a little fake-sounding, but I tried to use them modestly so it wouldn't be too grating. The bass guitar seemed like a good fit to fill out the bottom of the track. And to top it off, I went with the lapsteel guitar to play behind the piano.
It's just such a gosh darn lovely piece of music and I'm really glad that I figured out an arrangement for it =' )
Also; for some really weird reason I had this bizarre vision of a thunderstorm/windstorm happening in the background of this track, so on the last cycle I put in some ambient wind/thunder noise. I ripped it straight from the EarthBound .spc file and just threw it in there with some EQ and a splash of reverb. Originally, it can be heard on this track (youtube.com/watch?v=7BCKfwaP_w4). Was that a weird choice? Can't say for sure why I was inspired to do that.
But anyhoo, thanks for watching, everyone. More stuff on the way!

Okay, okay, okay at LEAST let me explain myself. So a few months ago I was watching the AGDQ finale where they ran Undertale to close out the event. The runner made it to the battle with Sans at the end of the genocide route and Megalovania got stuck in my head after the show was over. Then this idea hit me; what would it sound like in a major key? I came up with a variation on the the main theme then I thought it would be funny to basically turn it into a Beatles song.
So the next morning I started arranging it just to see what it would sound like and the whole time I kept saying to myself, "oh, God, am I really doing this?". I put together this little draft of just the musical arrangement and sent it to my buddy Ace Waters and his response was pretty much, "oh, God, are you really doing this?".
Then something bad happened; a couple of lines of lyrics popped into my head. In fact, it was the "everybody has to bear the weight of their sins..." part to be exact. Then everything snowballed out of control and so here we are.
I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Megalovania. I feel like there are so many other tracks from the Ut ost that are so much better. That said, I realllly like this arrangement and had a ton of fun putting it together. It took an obscene amount of time to produce. Dozens of hours.
I asked my buddy Austin to play drums on it and his response was something like, "oh, God are you really making me do this?". Go check him out and say thanks for helping me out with this! (youtube.com/user/bokunoeruption)
One of my favorite things about Undertale is how it kicks down the 4th wall at times. The final battle with Sans is one of a few sections where the game gets meta and that was a big inspiration for the lyrics.
So pretty much the lyrics are from the perspective of Sans after he is spared by the human. Sort of in commendation of the human for "doing the right thing".
This will most likely be that last Undertale thing that I ever do. I'd say it's more than run its course for me in terms of covers, haha. If Toby Fox does more music in the future then we'll see what happens.
I wanted to have this out on April Fool's, the joke being that this song is the biggest meme of the last two years and here I am doing it straight and in a major key. Didn't make it in time so just pretend it's April 1st.

LYRICS
Glad you finally made it, kid
It took you long enough to reach your senses
Better late than never though, I knew that you'd come around
Made a mess of thing, you did
There's no one left to pick the pieces up
You made me sweat, but still I bet that you won't let me down
Everybody has to bear the weight of their sins
But at least where you're goin' you can know that you'll have one less crawling around
Take the easy route, you know that I won't lose
It's better than giving you the blues
There ain't no climbin' out of the grave that you're in
Did you really think you were gonna walk away? Well I'm afraid you're stuck in the ground
There's only one way out no matter what you choose
And it's time that you paid your dues
Friends don't burn their friends
So don't come back again
When composing this theme I wanted it to have a tribal vibe to reflect the primal quality of starting a new Minecraft world. Like Lord of the Flies or somethin', haha. So that's why I went with the chanting and drums.
Thanks to Todd and Austin for bringing me on board to create the new theme! Also thanks to my friend Julia for providing the operatic vocals as well! Check her channel out, she does lovely VGM covers youtube.com/channel/UClz6wvd5vY6XU7WTc4Sly3g

It seems not many people HAVE heard of Alcahest. It's a Japan-only SNES/Super Famicom game by HAL Laboratory that came out in '93. Mr. Satoru Iwata worked on it as a programmer, I believe. It's a top-down action RPG sort of like Zelda. I haven't spent much time playing the game itself, but have listened to the soundtrack many times.
I had no idea it existed until a couple years ago when I was looking up Jun Ishikawa (the main composer for the Kirby games) and saw that Alcahest was one of his lesser known works. I went and checked out the soundtrack and it blew me away. Quite the hidden gem. There are a bunch of really good tracks in it and you can definitely hear the "Kirby" in them, but they're more on the serious side. It's really interesting to hear a different side of Mr. Ishikawa's work. If you're into Kirby music, I bet you'll dig it. Here's a playlist of the OST if you want to check it out for yourself:
youtube.com/watch?v=3c-T0BE98cY&list=PLB82FF25ADEC048E1
It was tough choosing just one to cover so I might return to this OST in the future. I really like "Friends" and the Castle Theme, among many others. I looked around YouTube and couldn't find an instrumental cover of any of the music at all! Just a couple of straight remixes.
I know this video is probably going to tank in views since this game is so obscure, but I like to give unknown VGM like this a chance to be heard by more people. I wish I could do a ton more lesser-known VG tracks, but my channel would grow even more slowly if I did, haha. When/if I have a bigger audience I'll do them more often.

When I was ten or eleven years old my mom took me and my little bro to the beach for the day. It was summer, around 1997, maybe '98. We went to Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City, Oregon.
My mom and brother were at the tide pools at the base of the cape, meanwhile I was wading around in the surf about 100 yards away. I could see them from where I was at. I waded out a little further to where the water was about waist-high.
There were also two other kids out there that were about my age. I went out as far as they were then kept going. I stopped when I was shoulder deep in the sea. The waves were coming along and I was having fun jumping with them as they passed by. I was enjoying myself so much so that I didn't realize that with each jump I was slowly moving away from the shore.
I eventually figured it out when I came down, touched the sand below and my head went under. My stomach flipped over when I noticed that those kids I passed by earlier were a good 40ft away and the shore was even further beyond them.
So I tried to paddle back to where I could touch, but the waves were pulling me out, despite my best efforts. Once I realized that I the shore was indeed getting further away, I panicked. I started screaming for help as I desperately tried to keep my head above the waves.
By now I could hear mom screaming frantically from the beach. She was running along the cape, tripping over rocks, trying to get out to where I was.
As I was thrashing out there in the water, someone grabbed me and the next ting I know, I'm being dragged back toward land. When we made it to shallower water, they picked my up in their arms literally carried me back to the beach. As this was happening, I looked up and saw that it was a girl that was carrying me.
She laid me on dry sand where my mom and little bro were waiting amongst a crowd of maybe, like, ten other people (the beach wasn't particularly busy that day). My mom made sure I was okay, but when she turned around to thank my savior, the girl was gone.
Friends, I'm not a particularly superstitious fellow, but it still weirds me out to this day.
I have a pretty solid memory and am good with remembering faces, yet I can hardly recall anything about her. I think he was teenage, maybe had dark hair? It was a traumatic experience for me, any memory of her was repressed long ago.
Mysterious girl; if this song ever finds you: thanks for pulling me out of the sea that day. For better or worse I might not be here right now had you not been at the beach that day.
SO, with all that said, it's pretty obvious what this song is about. I've been thinking about that incident lately and it ended up becoming the basis for this song. It's sort of a retelling of the event, but it's also an imagining of what might have happened if she wasn't there to save me.
I lay awake sometimes at night thinking about how things might be different if the sea took me that day. Not really in a morbid "holy crap I almost died" kind of way. It's more like imaging a world in the multiverse in which I don't exist any more. I find it wildly fascinating.
(Hey my life is pretty much the plot of Chrono Cross!).
So in the lyrics when I was "somewhere far from here, I drew breath laying on a shoal and "I cried, but no on heard, they left me thrashing in the surf" that's me jesting about another world in which there was no one there to help me that day. Hmm, I guess this is kinda morbid, haha.
I'm submitting this song to NPR's Tiny Desk contest so that's what the "Tiny Desk" in the title means. I'm hoping it will help get my song out to more ears.
I had the absolute pleasure of having my dear friend Mr. Ace Waters join me for this song. I sent over a demo of just the vocals and an acoustic guitar and he completely changed the song with analog necromancy. If you've been watching my stuff for a while, then you know who he is. If not, go subscribe to him! youtube.com/user/acewatersthe3rd
Also thanks to my homie Ian Wallace for creating the thumbnail for this video (youtube.com/user/wallycharbie)
As always, thanks for watching everyone. I'll see you soon = )

LYRICS:
I can feel the waves
Each one drags me out
I try to kick my legs
As my lungs fill with doubt
Somewhere far from here
I drew breath laying on a shoal
The sunlight disappeared
and with it left my soul
I'm feeling funny, but I'm not sure why
Hey, tell me something, was that you in the sky?
I can hear my name
A voice called to me
Through the tide she came
and pulled me from the sea
I cried, but no one heard
They left me thrashing in the surf
Angels hear my words
and take me from this earth

Here's a little guitar arrangement of the Character Select theme from Mario Bros. 2. I've always really liked this little ditty and it recently occurred to me that it could be played as a solo guitar piece so I put together this arrangement. It's really difficult, but at the same time, super fun to play. My performance is a little clumsy, but all in all I really like how it came together.
I had an original song that I've been working on that I wanted to have out two weeks ago, but I got sick last weekend and haven't been able to sing. I'm feeling a lot better though so hopefully my voice gets back to 100% and I can get it out next week. Vocals are all that's left to do on it. So in the meantime I threw this guitar arrangement to hold y'all over until that original song is done.
I'll also be releasing that anthology album of original songs when the new one is done so be on the lookout for that!
Composed by Koji Kondo and arranged by me.
You guys have been asking for this every week of every month since I released my arrangement of this song back in April. So I finally sat down and made it as a Christmas present to all of you who have been so supportive over the months/years.
First off, the TAB was created by Robert Chen. If not for him, I probably wouldn't have done it myself and thus wouldn't have made this video. Go check out his version of ASGORE and say thanks by subscribing to him! youtube.com/watch?v=b7CeN8yBKFM
I didn't do a full-on tutorial this time, in which I explain all the chords, since I didn't have time, but I did try to play it slowly so you guys could follow along. I haven't hardly played it since I made my original cover so I'm a bit rusty, haha. Keep in mind that the purpose of this video is to help you learn it, not to be taken as a performance.
The tabs are like 95% correct, but there are a few discrepancies here and there since I play it a little differently each time. Hopefully it doesn't give you too much trouble.
Two important things to consider; for this video I left my guitar in standard tuning. In my original arrangement I tuned down one half step. So that means that it's in a different key. I wanted to make it easier on you guys to learn.
The other thing is that for the Determination section, I didn't use a capo. I straight up forgot that I put it on the 2nd fret in the original and didn't realize it until I was nearly done editing, haha. SO when you're following along with my original arrangement you will need to put the capo on the 2nd fret for Determination.
Something else I wanted to say is that I get bugged sometimes by listeners about the fact that ASGORE is technically incomplete since I cut out the last couple of sections and replaced them with Determinaton. In Toby Fox's original song, the last couple of sections are a REARRANGEMENT of Determination so I thought it was clever to put Determination in there implying that the player/listener is experiencing a game over screen. It's theming!!
I have to admit that I had fun revisiting this one. Earlier this year I was kicking around the idea of re-recording all of my Undertale stuff, plus a few extras and releasing them as an acoustic-instrumental album. I wanted to have it done for the anniversary of the game, but I got busy with other stuff and wasn't able to get to it. Plus, I dunno, it felt kinda weird at the time since I didn't want it to seem like I was trying to squeeze every last possible view/listen I could get from the UT soundtrack. At the same time my UT guitar arrangements are some of the most fun and challenging stuff I've ever done as a guitarist and I kinda want to put them all together in one remastered, presentable package. In any case, it's on my mind and if things line up I would love to do it!

Feel free to hit me up with questions and I'll try to answer them as best as I can. Also, let me know about any mistakes in the video and I'll try to clear them up with annotations.
And finally, if you end up learning my arrangement, film and/or record it and send it to me! I'd love to see it!

I hope you guys don't mind something a little different this time around. I'm not sure if I've really said it publicly before, but I'm a huge fan of classical music. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's my favorite genre. I took an interest in it when I was a senior in high school and discovered this whole world of music that I'd passed off as being for nerds, haha.
I even remember what it was specifically that got me into it. I was playing Earthworm Jim 2 on the stage "See Jim Run, Run Jim Run" on which the third movement of Beethoven's 14th sonata plays in the background. I thought that it sounded really interesting and I had NO IDEA that it was Beethoven. Just figured it was by the composer for the game. So I looked into it and eventually figured out it was Beethoven and it all snowballed from there.
I eventually found Chopin and he quickly became my favorite composer. His music deeply moved me and I found myself clumsily trying to learn it on piano. I'd goofed around with learning how to play some VGM on the piano, but it was my infatuation with Chopin's music that got me to take it seriously. Been playing ever since and it's become my favorite instrument.
So I've been wanting to do a Chopin piece on my channel for a while now. This is one that I learned a long time ago and just sort of retained over the years. I'm no virtuoso so my articulation is a bit robotic, but just the same, it's a beautiful piece and I wanted to share it with you.
I'd love to do more classical music, but it tends to be difficult and takes a ton of time for me to learn which isn't conducive to a consistent upload schedule. There are a handful of pieces that I already know, however, which I could possibly perform with a bit of practice.
I want to try to get one more song out by the end of the year. It's an original and I still need to finish the lyrics for it, but I might be able to get them done in time.
Also; I will be at MAGFest Jan. 5-8 so if you see me there say hi!

So Sheik’s theme has been on my to-do list for a looong time. It’s my favorite piece of music from Ocarina of Time. There are a lot of reasons why, but one of the main ones is just how perfectly it fits the character. There’s a sort of mystic, yet reassuring quality to it. Kind of hard to explain, but you know exactly what I mean if you’ve played the game.
Arranging this was a challenge and it went through a bunch of iterations before I settled on this one. I was going to follow the original much more closely, but I eventually came up with the guitar riff you hear in the video and decided to go with that. The original is a really bizarre piece of music if you listen closely. It doesn’t really follow any sort of tempo and it’s in the key of A, but I don’t think an A chord is played in the whole thing. I tried to tame it without dulling it down too much.
Writing the lyrics was also a great challenge. This game, in particular, and these characters mean a great deal to a lot people (myself included) so one has to be delicate when creating lyrics that involve them. It was daunting because it’s been done so many times and I didn’t want to just rewrite the same thing.
I noticed that the majority of lyrics written for this song are written from Sheik’s perspective as if she’s speaking to Link, offering her wisdom, guidance and reassurance. So I thought it would be interesting to write them from Link’s perspective as a sort of character analysis of Sheik. The way he sees her. Yes, she’s a strong-willed character, but if you take a closer look, you start to consider everything that led up to her and Link meeting for the first time since they were kids. A lifetime of suffering, fear and aguish crammed into seven years, which was not more than a blink of an eye from Link’s point of view. That’s what was going through my head while writing this.
I tried a different filming style for this one. I recorded the song then filmed myself playing to it afterwards. It got slightly out of sync a couple of times, but I thought it turned out okay. What do you think? Also picked up a new lens for my T3i which made my footage look a little better.
Anyways, thanks for watching, everyone. I put a lot of effort into this one so I hope you dig it. I’ll see you soon!

LYRICS
Seven years gone in a day
Every one etched in your gaze
Withered crimson eyes behind a golden veil
Cast aside what's made them cry for I won't fail
Remember those song of old, ancient tales
Like a jewel tossed in the fray
Just a child lost on her way
Ease your woes, don't flee from those who've caused you pain
For they chose to be the foes of Evil's Bane
and like the day, washed away with the rain

This time around I took on the Giant's Theme/Oath to Order/Calling the Four Giants. This somber dirge plays when you summon the giants with "Oath to Order". Depending on how far you've progressed in the game, one or more of the awakened giants will attempt to stop the cursed moon from descending upon Clock Town and effectively annihilating Termina.
This scene has always stuck out to me. As you probably know, the moon can only be stopped by all four giants, but you can attempt to stop it with three or less giants. It's sad watching them try to stop the moon in vain, yet beautiful that they make the sacrifice anyway. Majora's Mask is a heavy game, man. Did I already say that in my last video?
I wanted to really bring out that sadness in this cover. I wanted it to sound like you, the listener, are a pall bearer in a funeral procession, as the others carrying the coffin sing this sullen song. Much like the giants bearing the weight of the moon. I did some trickery with panning the vocals to achieve this effect so this song is best experienced on a pair of headphones.
This is my second video for Zelda month. I'm really hoping to do two more before it's over. The next one is a lyric cover from Ocarina of Time. Just need to finish up a few lines for that one. Not exactly sure what the fourth one will be yet, but I have some ideas.
Anyhoo, thanks for watching, everyone. I'll see you soon!

Happy Halloween! I'm starting Zelda month early with this eerie track from Majora's Mask. It seemed fitting, haha.
As you may remember, this track plays when you meet the ghost of Sharp in Ikana Canyon. As he conducts the orchestra of the dead, Link's health is slowly drained and your only options are to flee the cave or pacify his restless soul with the Song of Storms. I think that most folks haven't heard the whole of Sharp's Curse because your first reaction upon hearing it is to get the heck out of that cave.
This scene in particular (with a handful of others) was so visceral and frankly disturbing when I first played this game at 12 years old. Right before the song plays, Sharp invites you to listen to the piece and join the ranks of the dead. So as the player, of course your first reaction is self-preservation by fleeing the cave or playing the Song of Storms on your ocarina. But you always have the option of simply staying in the cave and allowing this loathsome dirge to lull you into an eternal slumber.
The player is treated to a standard game over screen in this scenario, but I wondered what really happened to Link. Did he turn into a ghost or a zombie or something? A Gibdo?
The world of Majora's Mask is a depressing one. This game is known among Zelda fans as the darkest in the series and for that reason it's the favorite of many. It's my #2 (right behind LttP). But this sad and sometimes lifeless world makes me wonder about what sort of toll it took on Link as a character. Maybe eternal slumber preferable to wading through the darkness.
Aaannnd that's it for today's "Philosophy Corner". Tune in next time.
I did some experimenting while recording parts for this cover. As you've probably figured out, I reversed the guitar parts to give it an extra-spooky sound. That meant I had to learn the main melody backwards then reverse the audio so the notes would be correct. It was kinda fun, haha.
I also reversed the video for the guitar parts. I was hoping it would look a little cooler than it actually does. It kinda just looks like I'm playing the notes at the wrong time, haha. But one cool thing is that at the end it looks like I walk up to turn the camera off, but since it's reversed, I'm actually turning it on and walking backwards. So the end of that guitar take is actually the beginning. You can also see me clapping so I'd know where the next take was in the video.
I have at least one more video planned for Zelda month. It's another instrumental from Majora's Mask. I also have one with lyrics that I want to do, but it's going to be tricky since it's been done so many times. Don't want to make any promises until I have a better idea of whether or not it will work.
But yeah, thanks for watching, everyone. The next one should be out in a week or two. See you soon.

Hey, everyone. Here's a little guitar-duet style cover of a track from Terranigma. Kinda wanted to keep it simple this time around so I didn't go too crazy with adding a million voices to the arrangement, haha.
I had something else planned for this week, but caught a little cold over the weekend and wasn't able to record vocals as I'd intended. That video will hopefully be out soon though.
If you've never heard of Terranigma; it's a lesser-known JRPG from ENIX. It was released in Europe, but never here in the states. It's a hidden gem of the SNES and if you're a fan of JRPG's from the SNES golden-era then I highly recommend you give it a play. It's not quite of the same caliber as game like Chrono Trigger and Earthbound, but it deals with some really heavy philosophical concepts and has an ending that'll knock the wind out of you.
Here's an awesome episode of 16-bit Gems that's all about it. Check it out if you have time, but if you haven't played it, be wary of spoilers! youtube.com/watch?v=SZvvxzixL9Y
There's a lot of great music in it and I plan on doing more in the future, maybe even something with lyrics someday.
I pulled out the ol' classical guitar for this one which is something I rarely do. Mainly because it's a piece of junk, haha. It's a jerk about staying in tune and makes a lot of weird, unintended racket while being played. I need to buy a nicer one for recording.
Also experimented with a new recording technique. I'm using three mics; two condensers and one stereo mic in the center (so technically four mics). It was a little tough mixing it with all that extra sound, but I think it sounds pretty cool.
Oh, and if you weren't aware already; I'm going to be at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo in Portland, Oregon this weekend. A ton of friends and cool people are going to be there too. If you see me around don't be afraid to say hello! I love meeting you guys!
See you soon = )

Here's a new take on an old classic. Those of you who've been here for a while may remember that Kraid's Lair was one of the first videos I ever uploaded nearly four years ago! Been meaning to re-arrange my arrangement for a couple of years now, just never got around to it.
I made some changes to it; added a new section in the middle and changed up the ending. This piece was freaking harrrrrd. I don't even want to think about how much time I spent trying to get a good take of it. The individual parts aren't so bad, but when you stack them back to back it becomes really difficult. Particularly the sections with the eighth-note runs. There's a super awkward interval in there that's like a G-flat to a B to an A that was murder.
I'm pretty happy with the take I got, considering, but I could have probably done better if I had another few weeks to practice. Alas, YouTube punishes those who fall behind on upload frequency. Also; I'm not the most disciplined pianist, haha.
I recorded DI this time so this is 100% live. Weeeeee. The samples that my keyboard has are pretty good, but someday I want to figure out how to mic an acoustic piano and do it that way instead. I'll need to buy an acoustic piano first.
Either way, I hope you guys dig it. I really tried hard to make sure the arrangement itself was correct and faithful to the original.
In other news... I've got a brand new cover with lyrics coming up soon. It may or may not be a song that is typically sung by an anthropomorphic dog on Saturday nights ; )
Also seriously considering recording a little acoustic EP of a certain soundtrack of a certain game that just recently had an anniversary. A certain EP that I said I *might* do back in April ; ) ( ; I'll keep you informed on that.
And also; I'm going to be at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo in October! I'll probably make an announcement video when it gets a little closer. A bunch of cool YouTube friends will be there including some VGM folks. Ace, Rich and Jackson to name a few.
Anyways, thanks for watching, guys. I'll see you soon = )

Yoooo. Here's my take on "Blackwell Academy" from Life is Strange. This one reallly took an unexpected turn. It ended up becoming a somber ambient track instead of one of my usual melody-driven arrangements.
It was funny; I had everything recorded except for the electric guitar and I said to myself "it needs something else" so I (almost arbitrarily) plugged in my SG and started plucking away. It completely changed the mood of the song! Before the electric guitar it sounded much more like the original which is a little more upbeat-sounding. Granted, I changed the bassline from the original, as well, which had an effect on the vibe, but the electric guitar turned it into something new. I dunno, I'm really happy with it, especially since it's quite a bit different from my other stuff.
I've had this one on my list for ages, I just hadn't gotten around to it. When playing the game it really stuck out as one of my favorite background tracks. I was tempted to take a swing at lyrics, but there isn't really a main melody in the original so I would have had to create a completely new one AND the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I pretty much said everything I have to say about the game in my "Max & Chloe" cover.
In any case I like how it came together.
I think I'm going to do another piano arrangement next so be on the lookout for that in the next week or two. Then hopefully a brand new lyric cover by the end of the month or early next month.
As always, thanks for watching and I'll be seeing you soon ❤
