Sometimes - James - Nick Parker and Friends Nick Parker 2020-08-09 | This is the very first lockdown collaboration I started to work on way back at the beginning of April. Inspired by James’ jangly guitar-heavy 1993 Top of the Pops version of ‘Sometimes’ I thought it would be fun to get lots of my acoustic-guitar-playing mates to join in. As is often the case with me, the idea escalated and became a full band affair. Hannah and Abbe from Sound of the Sirens arranged the first verse, Samantics recreated the second, and loads more friends took care of the rest. Dave Draper then had the unenviable task of mixing all 56 tracks, which he did beautifully. As with all these lockdown videos I like to support a charity and with this one we are supporting Marie Curie. Some of the musicians involved have recently been very grateful for the work of Marie Curie, a charity which provides care and support for people with terminal illness. It is also a charity very close to my heart as my mum was a Marie Curie nurse for many years before needing them herself before she passed away two years ago. January was looking quite quiet for some reason so I said 'Heck yeah', or words to that effect, and quickly bagsied Mairi's Wedding, Pt. 3.Of course I enlisted the help of my daughter Flo for flute and vocal duties, and grabbed a few instruments myself (I bought the electric guitar especially, don't you know).Anyway. Sons & Daughters - The Decemberists - Young Humans Edition Nick Parker 2020-07-25 | During spring of 2020 I thought it might be fun to get lots of kids to learn a cover of Sons & Daughters by The Decemberists for a video collaboration. I was right! It was great fun and the kids loved taking part. They all did very well to learn the song and some of them even learnt instruments especially! All of my collaboration videos have been linked to a charity and this one is no different. We are hoping to raise much-needed funds for Gympanzees, a charity which helps disabled children and young people enjoy a life filled with exercise, play and friendship. Stranger Tunes - Episode 12 - Sufjan Stevens - Chicago Nick Parker 2020-07-11 | Welcome to the twelfth episode of Stranger Tunes, a series in which I get a few strangers to play along to a song I send them. Usually the guests are strangers to each other, but this episode is a little different in that I invited singer songwriter Jim 'Small Town' Jones to send me a song, and then built up the band using people that HE doesn’t know. On drums we have Andy Davis. Andy was the drummer during the second half of my time with Why? back in the 90s. On keys we have Kevin Spurgeon. I met Kevin on tour in Sweden where he was playing with one of my major influences, Ian Prowse and his band Amsterdam (formerly Pele). On bass and trumpet we have two of my current band mates Tom Granville and John Hare respectively. On violin we have Izzy Barber, and on vocals we have my daughter Flo Parker Bombosch.Last but of course not least, we have Jim’s daughter Immy joining us on vocals.
