A year ago I asked our talent buyers for one thing — a well known European DJ booked specifically for World Cup weekend. They delivered Oliver Heldens for the night before Netherlands played Sweden in Houston.

I expected a mostly Dutch crowd. What I got instead was something better — Netherlands jerseys next to Sweden, Norway, Mexico, and USA, all in one room. Mosh pits. Dance circles. Chants in five languages. 800 people from a dozen backgrounds united by one DJ and one night.

Houston's World Cup Host Committee is projecting 500,000 visitors to the city this summer with an estimated $1.5 billion economic impact. This is what live entertainment looks like when you plan around a moment this big.
