This app is designed to enable you to test your sensitivity to being looked at from behind, and to find out if you can improve with practice. It takes only a few minutes to complete a test.

The test requires two people, each with a mobile phone. One of the people does the looking, the other has their back to the looker. The looker’s phone tells him or her whether to look or not in a randomised series of 20 trials, and the subject, namely the person looked at, gets a signal saying when the trial begins and ends. In about half the trials the looker is asked to look at the back of the neck of the subject, and in the other trials to look away and think of something else. At the end of each trial, the subject responds by “yes” or “no” depending on whether they felt they were being looked at or not. At the end of the 20-trial test you receive the score. By chance, the score is around 50% or 10 out of 20. You can then do the test again, or reverse roles, or come back to do the test again later.
