How To Install pfSense Firewall Community Edition On Proxmox

pfSense is a firewall/router computer software distribution based on FreeBSD. The open source pfSense Community Edition (CE) and pfSense Plus is installed on a physical computer or a virtual machine to make a dedicated firewall/router for a network.

The pfSense project began in 2004 as a fork of the m0n0wall project by Chris Buechler and Scott Ullrich. Its first release was in October 2006.
The name derives from the fact that the software uses the packet-filtering tool, PF.

This following video is about building and running pfSense® software on a virtual machine under Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE).
The guide also applies to any newer Proxmox VE version. This video covers Proxmox VE networking setup and firewall virtual machine setup process. The guide does not cover how to install Proxmox VE.

A basic, working, virtual machine will exist by the end of this guide.
Assumptions:
- Proxmox VE host is up and running
- Host has at least two network interfaces available for WAN and LAN.
- pfSense software ISO image is present on the Proxmox VE host
