Your engine belts make a screech or squeal noise usually because the rubber belt is slipping on the metal pulley, its just like your tires spinning on the road, this causes noise either by: dirty belt pulleys, worn out serpentine belt, or loose idler pulley. An engine pulley is mounted to the engine of an automobile and drives all belts. Your car probably has a serpentine belt which is a continuous belt used to drive multiple peripheral devices. Those devices include an alternator, power steering pump, water pump, air conditioning compressor and the radiator fan. They squeak when they're not tight enough. If the pulleys are rusty or dirty, CLEAN them, or replace the belt.
