Word count advice for your novel. How long should it be?

What are the rules? What is a good book length? How long is too long?

I've seen and heard more rumours online about literary agents rejecting books because they are not the exact right word count for the genre. In this video I investigate the rumours and see if there is any truth in them. I talk about the general rules, the exceptions to the rules and talk about genre averages. I also provide examples from a recent poll I did on twitter about debut authors and provide some practical writing advice about what you can do.
