In this history documentary we look at the topics of pay and promotion in the Roman army. This begins with a review of the early Roman Army of the Republic which was a militia based system with neither of these standarzied. However as the state expanded such systems would become necessary, especially with the transition to a fully professional army in the Roman Empire.
We then discuss pay in the Roman Army. This covers everything from their basic salary, to bonuses, and other forms of compensation. We then turn to an understanding of the organization of the Roman Army and how one might advance up the ranks of a legion from a recruit, to a centurion, and beyond.

In this history documentary we seek to bring to life the army of the First Crusade. Contemporary accounts report incredibly high figures on the order of 600,000 men with claims that the army would have numbered in the millions had everyone made it to the holy land. But just how much can we trust these claims.
We reconstruct the army using using more recent academic analysis of casualty rates and unit composition ratios to estimate a more accurate model. This is covered with topics or organization, equipment, and more.

In this history documentary we bring to life the True Size of Napoleons Army. This subject is absolutely massive and so we will be exploring it in a series of True Size episodes covering the infantry, the cavalry, the artillery, and finally the combined arms force of an Army Corp. This video focuses exclusively on the infantry. Here we begin with the smallest level of the 15 man Ordinaire and go up to the largest pure infantry group of the Brigade.
I hope that by visualizing the army in the way you can get a better understanding for a Napoleonic Army and especially the way in which the Napoleonic Wars were waged across its famous battles including the Battle of Austerlitz, the Battle of Waterloo, and more. For those with a sharp eye, you will now be able to see how such formations may or may not manifest in popular media such as the Napoleon Movie battle scenes.
