The Araguaia Cory – Hoplisoma araguaiaense 🇧🇷🐟 filmed by @chrislukhaup
Formerly known as Corydoras araguaiaensis, this beautiful little armored catfish is native to the Rio Araguaia basin in Brazil. Following the major revision of Corydoradinae in 2024, its currently accepted scientific name is Hoplisoma araguaiaense.
Growing to around 4.5–5 cm, it has a distinctive pattern of dark spots and broken horizontal lines covering its pale body. Like other “Corys”, it is a peaceful and highly social bottom dweller that is best enjoyed in a proper group rather than kept alone.
A lovely species for a natural-style aquarium with fine sand, leaf litter, wood and plenty of areas to forage — and definitely one of those Cory relatives that deserves a little more attention in the hobby.
