Homegoing (2016) is a powerful piece of historical fiction spanning three hundred years of slavery through seven generations, starting with two half sisters in eighteenth-century Ghana whose destinies are vastly different. Effia marries a British slave trader called James Collins and lives a comfortable life in the luxurious Cape Coast Castle, while Esi is imprisoned in cramped, squalid conditions in the castle's dungeon before being sold with thousands of others into the slave trade and shipped off to work on plantations in America, where her children and grandchildren will be raised.
This is the only the second ever "reading vlog" that I've done on this channel, so please give me your honest feedback. I'm personally finding it quite fun to spontaneously film a couple of minutes each day and then put everything together at the end, but if you prefer the more traditional "sit down" book review videos that I used to do before, then please let me know. Or if you think there's anything I could improve, I'd love to hear.
