Bell System Reach out and touch someone Commercial (April 2, 1979) D G 2009-05-14 | N.W. Ayer, one of America's oldest advertising agencies, needed a creative approach to help AT&T soften its image in the face of growing concerns about AT&T's potential monopoly. So Ken D'Ambrosio helped develop the concept for a print and TV campaign that incorporated the now famous "Reach Out and Touch Someone" tag line. We can credit Marshall McLuhan for creating the tagline "Reach out and touch someone" for Ma Bell. This campaign was designed to soften AT&T's image and position the company as an indispensable element of everyday American life. Michael Arlen devoted a book to the making of a 30-second commercial for [the Bell System] with the slogan "Reach out and touch someone". "In thirty seconds, everybody notices everything" (Arlen, 1980: p. 211) stated Jerry Pfiffner, who was an executive vice-president of N.W. Ayer and leader of a Creative Group. They had designed the famous "Reach Out and Touch Someone" commercial advertising for AT&T's advertising campaign in 1979. The intention was to get more people to make long distance calls. The first commercial debuted on Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show. David Lucas is the original composer of "Reach Out..." which is one of the rare jingles most people can actually sing. "Reach out. Neighbors Smoke Detector Chirp - 460 New York Avenue NW, Washington, DC (460NYA) - Bozzuto Homes D G 2015-11-02 | The sound problems in the building are so bad that I can clearly hear the low battery chip of my neighbors' smoke detectors within my unit. The chirp is the same frequency as the alarm that is designed to wake up people. The bigger problem is that this has been going on for three nights. Chirp is at 0:20."This alarm has a low/missing battery monitor circuit which will cause the alarm to “chirp” approximately every 30-40 seconds for a minimum of seven (7) days when the battery gets low."

This was demonstrated during the unit sales process, before anyone moved into the brand new building. Upon moving in in July 2015 the system has not functioned.The third floor sorter controls are inoperable and the automatic door hinge makes a clanking noise that can be heard within units.

Adobe Photoshop CS6 Video Rendering with Third Party Filter Test D G 2012-06-03 | This is a test of the use of third party filters with Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended when rendering video. A 720 30p video clip recorded using a Samsung SGH-i937 (Focus S) from the live Garbage performance at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC on May 23, 2012 is used.All clips were first rendered in Photoshop and then edited in sequence in Sony Vegas 11. As expected, the use of filters added to the Photoshop video rendering time. The Alien Skin Bokeh 2 filter added an acceptable (minutes) amount of time to the rendering process. The Red Giant Magic Bullet PhotoLooks 1.5 added a significant amount of time (hours) to the rendering process and Photoshop would become unresponsive during rendering.Oddly, rendering of video with the filters did not max out CPU or GPU processing. This indicates that RAM and/or disk performance is a key performance component for applying filters to video rendered in Photoshop CS6. System: Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 64-bit, Intel Core i7-2600K @ 3.4 GHz, 16 GB RAM

36 MPH Wind Gusts on the Mount Vernon Trail (April 17, 2010) D G 2010-04-27 | I went for a bike ride on the Mount Vernon Trail when the wind was gusting up to 36 MPH. The video was taken with my HTC Fuze, which has problems with the preset white balance settings. Oddly the video looks like a Super 8 home movie from the 70s, except that there is sound.
Seattle Center Monorail Ride from Downtown to the Seattle Center (March 16, 2010) D G 2010-03-25 | The Seattle Center Monorail is an elevated monorail line in Seattle, Washington, that runs a little over one mile along Fifth Avenue from Westlake Center in Downtown to Seattle Center in Lower Queen Anne. It claims to be the "only fully self-sufficient public transit system" in the United States, and with a top speed of 45 mph (72 km/h), to also be the fastest full-sized monorail in the country. Owned by the City of Seattle, the line has been operated by a private contractor, Seattle Monorail Services, since 1994. The monorail trains and their tracks were given historical landmark status by the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board April 16, 2003.
