Abstract (Updated 07/2024): This excerpt from a memoir/work of autofiction explores mothers and daughters in patriarchal cults/high control groups. In particular, the role of generational trauma in mother-daughter relationships, and how this connects to purity culture, shame, conditional love, and narcissistic abuse through the lens of chronic illness and care.
Dr. Zoe Lambert is a writer and a lecturer in creative writing at the University of Lancaster (UK). She has published numerous short stories in anthologies and magazines, and has published the full-length short story collection, The War Tour (Comma Press).
