More often than not, we end up listening to ourselves more than talking to ourselves. We feel the pull of earthly pleasures. We begin to wonder if God can really keep us. We wilt under the weight of increasing trials. And it's at those times the Spirit of God invites us to speak truth to ourselves, just like the psalmist does: “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.” (Psalm 42:11)
"Help Us Love You, Lord," is a prayer of hope that reaches out to God in the midst of our fight against worldliness, unbelief, and sorrow. Our prayer isn't simply to be free of them, but rather to fully pursue what we were created to do in light of what Jesus accomplished for us at the cross: love the Lord God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. It's a prayer that will only fully be answered when we see our Savior face to face. Until then, we will continue to pray, "Help us love You, Lord."
